Chapter 844: 418 Lesson_2

She’s still alive, thank God.

The young man smiled and closed his eyes, slowly sinking to the river bottom.

The young lady reached around his waist and began swimming towards the surface with him.

However, it was incredibly difficult. Looking back, she saw that his right foot was tangled in water weeds.

The weeds were like a demon’s hand reaching up from the river bed, dragging the young man into a bottomless abyss.

She swam back to free his foot from the water weeds, but it was like they were deliberately opposing her – she couldn’t get them off.

...

The young man weakly opened his eyes, gave her a slight push, shook his head and smiled.

You go on, don’t worry about , his gaze seed to say.

The young lady shook her head, swam back to his side and attempted again to tug at the weeds around his foot, but the pressure underwater was too much for her strength to overco.

Gradually, the young lady’s movents slowed. Her white dress billowed outwards, appearing like a blooming lily in the darkness, stunningly beautiful.

Soone else dove into the water, battling the cold and obstacles to her side.

A strong arm encircled the young lady’s waist, with an undeniable determination and authority.

They locked eyes and ti seed to stand still.

So scattered light penetrated the water waves, casting a shadow on the man’s stern eyebrows. His deep, dark eyes resembled a bottomless abyss, giving her a sense of hopeless gravity.

Just like that year in the orphanage, he had erged from the darkness, stepping into sunlight towards her.

Through several decades, everything had changed. People, things, tis were different, only his eyes, more defined by the hand of ti, showed more signs of hardship.

The young lady’s fingers hit his chest and sank under the water. His lips pressed together, his arms wrapped around her waist, leaving no room for resistance, pulling her out of the deep.

The young lady turned to look at the youth sinking into the water. As if understanding what she was thinking, his eyes carried a soft soothing gaze.

The icy river water was as biting as a cold knife, just like the heavy snowstorm thirteen years ago.

If you’re going to kill , then why bother saving ?

“Cough, cough …” Her wet body lay on the shore, coughing until her eyes were red.

The man gave her a long, deep look, then turned and dived back into the water.

The wind on the riverbank was biting, the cold cut like a frosted blade, ripping through skin, lacerating flesh, every inch aching.

In a matter of monts, he ca back ashore dragging a body. This ti he wasn’t as gentle, he just dropped the unconscious youth next to her.

She imdiately bent over to check the young man’s breath.

The uncertainty mont was over. He was still breathing.

First, she cleared the water from his bronchial tube, the young man coughed up so water, but didn’t wake up.

The young lady knelt down with her hands cradling his face, and without hesitation lowered her head down.

A large hand reached out to stop her.

Under the moonlight, his palm seed unusually wide, his fingers slender with thick callouses.

The lines in his palm were clear and distinct, much like the man himself, so rigid and without any joy.

“You’re very worried about him?” His voice was deep and resonant. Despite the small gap between them, she seed to feel the resonance of his chest as he spoke.

“He can’t die,” she said.

“I’ll do it,” Without hesitating, he lowered his head.

Aubree was taken aback.

The night wind swept past her ears, bringing with it a bone-chilling cold. Her wet clothes clung to her, the cold penetrating her bones.

After the artificial respiration was completed, he said lightly, “Don’t worry, he won’t die.”

“Thank you.”

“You don’t have to thank . Saving him has nothing to do with you.”

The man noticed the blood on her chest and frowned, “I’ll take you to the hospital.”

Aubree’s finger landed on Nicholas Drake’s pulse, “He has a high fever and has developed pneumonia, he should be the one going to the hospital.”

The man made a call and soon soone ca over with a stretcher. They lifted Nicholas Drake onto it and carried him off.

The riverside was next to an uphill slope leading to a road. The route wasn’t easy to ascend, especially at night. The street light emitted a faint glow. Aubree walked a couple of steps, then suddenly her body swayed.

“Be careful.” A hand reached out from behind and landed on her waist, lightly pushing her up.

The soft touch felt like it was on fire, instantly spreading warmth throughout her body.

Without hesitation, the man quickly withdrew his hand.

“Sorry.”

Aubree glanced lightly at him then turned back to ascend the stairs.

The man stood still watching his open palm – the soft touch had triggered an intense feeling in his heart.

“Aubree…” he muttered and a gentle laugh followed.

There were two cars parked by the roadside. Nicholas Drake was carried into the back of one. Without hesitation, Aubree also climbed into the sa car.
