After Jay left, Es felt an unsettling void settle in the air around her. She stared at the closed door, the echo of his departure ringing in her ears.

For a mont, she couldn’t find the words to articulate the turmoil within her. The truth lood large: she had always intended to leave this place. How had she allowed herself to get trapped in this web of obligation and expectation? The weight of the agreent felt like an iron shackle around her heart, constraining her spirit.

She leaned against the cool wall, closing her eyes to block out the surroundings. The Aron Group—what a farce it had beco.

What did it an to her? What had once sparked her ambition now felt more like a burden than a privilege.

A nagging question haunted her: why had she agreed to take the reins in the first place? Revenge against her family was never a fire that burned brightly in her heart. The idea of seeking retribution felt tedious, almost like a bad joke that refused to land. Why should she devote her energy to the so-called Valhale family, with its ceaseless squabbles and thirst for power?

Es had long since concluded that it didn’t matter to her, not really. The family na held no significance in her mind, just a series of hollow echoes from the past that reminded her of the things she had wanted to escape.

The mories of cold, empty halls filled with tension and betrayal flickered like shadows in her mind.

Yet, when Ray had first proposed the agreent, sothing unexpected had stirred within her. A strange mixture of intrigue and uncertainty washed over her, like the tide pulling at her feet, urging her to step forward into the unknown.

Why had she signed it? She could have walked away, could have torn the contract apart and let the pieces fall to the floor, but instead, she had felt an inexplicable pull, a flicker of hope for sothing she couldn’t quite articulate.

Maybe it was the promise of belonging, a chance to carve out her own identity amid the chaos of the family legacy. Or perhaps it was simply the thrill of taking control, an adrenaline rush she hadn’t anticipated.

But now, with Jay gone and her thoughts spiraling, she found herself grappling with those decisions. The fluttering sense of purpose had dimd into uncertainty, leaving her feeling adrift.

Did she truly want to engage in this endless fight over sothing that had never felt like hers? As she stood there, wrestling with her emotions, she realized that her desire to escape this tangled web was stronger than any fleeting ambition she had once entertained.

But today Earlier , as Es stared into Jay’s eyes, a wave of realization crashed over her, pulling her back to a mont she had desperately tried to forget. It was the mont that had both shattered and awakened her, the mont that had made her feel alive and yet utterly devastated.

As she gripped Jay’s collar, drawing him close, she found herself caught in the blazing gaze of Cain. The pain in his eyes ignited a mory, and for a fleeting mont, she saw not Jay, but Cain, standing before her, full of hurt and accusation.

The flashback began.

In a classroom washed in the golden light of sunset, Es stood clad in her school gym clothes, her heart racing as Cain confronted her, his voice low and trembling with barely contained emotion.

"What do you an by you love ?" His words cut through the air, heavy with disappointnt.

"You don’t even care about ! You lied to !" He advanced, a storm brewing in his eyes, their vibrant red swirling with anguish. "You hid your identity and everything! How can a love born from lies ever be real? It started with deceit, a foundation of betrayal!"

The word "betrayal" hung between them, a palpable force. Es felt the weight of his gaze, a mixture of hurt and disbelief etched across his face.

"What do you an by betrayal?" she whispered, her voice shaking as she fought against the tide of his pain. "I never betrayed you."

Cain’s face twisted in anguish, his fists clenched at his sides.

"Never betrayed ? Then why didn’t you tell who you really were? Why didn’t you speak to truthfully? You didn’t give the chance to know you! You kept everything from !" Each accusation landed like a blow, resonating with the hurt that had festered between them.

"I told you everything! And what about you" Es protested, but her voice faltered under the weight of his despair.

"Then why didn’t you ntion your connection to the Florence family?" she shot back, frustration bubbling within her. She wanted to break through the wall of pain that had ford between them.

"I never told you because I never wanted to be tied to the Florence family!" Cain’s voice rose, trembling with emotion, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"I thought I could escape that legacy, that I could be with you and build sothing real. I told you my father’s na, shared my life with you! I loved you more than I thought was possible! But what did you find? Just more lies? How can I trust you when all I’ve seen are half-truths and shadows? How can I believe that you love when you hold so much back?"

He stepped closer, his voice a raw whisper, laden with pain.

"You could walk away from this relationship whenever you wanted to, but I can’t! I’m trapped by my feelings for you, and all I wanted was your truth! Instead, I feel like a fool, caught in a web of your secrets!"

The room felt suffocating, the air thick with unresolved tension and the weight of their shared history. Es’s heart raced, torn between anger and heartache.

She looked at Cain, seeing not just the boy who had once captured her heart but also the depth of his suffering, the unyielding hurt that lay bare in his eyes. The sunlight streaming through the windows seed to dim, casting shadows that mirrored the turmoil within her.

The mory faded, but the questions lingered.
