The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan! Chapter 280: The Lecture
No, she must find a way to et Professor Lancaster face to face. Once Professor Lancaster sees her in person, he will definitely change his opinion of her.
Not only that, but he would also lose any goodwill towards the divisive Paige Sterling. From now on, Paige would have one more enemy in the research community.
In order to et Professor Lancaster, Skylar Hughes tried various ways and finally learned that Professor Lancaster would be giving a lecture at the University of Technology soon. Skylar imdiately rushed over, with Mona Wright following her.
Professor Lancaster’s lecture was packed. When Skylar arrived, there were no seats left, so she had to stand.
When she realized she could understand the profound physics knowledge Professor Lancaster was discussing, she was overjoyed.
Look, she was indeed talented. After just a few days of reading, she could comprehend what Professor Lancaster was saying.
If only Professor Lancaster would give her a chance, just a hint or two, she could deduce many things from it.
After the lecture ended, Skylar Hughes imdiately wanted to go backstage to find Professor Lancaster.
But unexpectedly, she saw Paige Sterling there.
Skylar’s expression imdiately froze. Why was Paige Sterling here?
Could it be that she knew Skylar would co to find Professor Lancaster and ca over to sabotage again?
Why was she such a persistent troublemaker?
When Mona Wright saw Paige, she imdiately started like a firecracker.
"Paige Sterling, why are you here? What are you doing here?"
Paige simply gave them a glance and continued organizing the materials on the desk, saying nothing.
She’s a professor at the university, isn’t it normal for her to be here?
Seeing Paige’s arrogant deanor, Mona glared angrily.
"Paige, who do you think you are? Let tell you, Skylar also has great talent in scientific research. Professor Lancaster now really values her talent and will soon take her on as a student. With Skylar around, you won’t have any chance to shine in the future!"
She smugly continued, "Don’t think that Skylar starting late ans she’ll be inferior to you. I’m telling you, even if she starts learning now, it won’t take long for her to surpass you! No matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to compare to Skylar!"
Skylar had never told Mona that she had already been rejected by Professor Lancaster—she was too embarrassed to ntion it, after all, it was too humiliating.
Moreover, she believed that Professor Lancaster’s rejection was only temporary, and it was inevitable that she would beco his student.
So Mona was completely unaware, and still went around promoting her, even now so proudly boasting in front of Paige, making Skylar feel as though she had been slapped several tis—by her own people.
It was both painful and embarrassing.
However, Skylar quickly rationalized to herself that Professor Lancaster’s rejection wasn’t due to her lack of ability, but because Paige was behind it, so there was nothing to be embarrassed about.
The one who should be embarrassed is soone like Paige.
After all, it’s out of fear that she might surpass her that Paige painstakingly obstructed her from becoming Professor Lancaster’s student.
The more Paige feared her, the more calm and magnanimous Skylar should be.
So Skylar said, "Paige, it seems we’ll be colleagues in the future, I look forward to your guidance."
Paige chuckled, "It seems you really admire , as you’ve started to follow in my footsteps."
Skylar’s smile froze, "Paige, you don’t actually think I want to study physics because of you, do you?"
Paige raised her eyebrow, "Isn’t it because you’re hopelessly in love with ?"
Skylar reiterated, "As I’ve said, it’s just because of my talent. I don’t want to waste it, so I chose this path. It has nothing to do with you, don’t overthink it."
Paige said, "Oh, then I’ll wait and see your talent."
Skylar glanced at the materials Paige was organizing, noticing several papers written by Professor Lancaster.
Skylar chuckled, "So you read Professor Lancaster’s books too; you must really admire him."
Seeing Paige’s indifference, Mona scoffed.
"Paige, you don’t think you can understand Professor Lancaster just by reading a few of his papers, right? Can you even comprehend such in-depth papers?"
Although Paige was being hyped outside, it couldn’t be denied that she hadn’t published any papers in any authoritative journals.
Without any outstanding papers, what makes Paige outstanding?
"Are you reading Professor Lancaster’s papers now, planning to plagiarize his research results?"
Mona’s thoughts grew increasingly malicious, "Or are you just jealous that Skylar is about to beco Professor Lancaster’s student, and you’re trying to sabotage by showing off in front of Professor Lancaster hoping he’ll notice you? Your scheming is so intense, but unfortunately, all your calculations will co to naught. Professor Lancaster would never be deceived by soone like you..."
Paige said, "Whatever makes you happy."
Mona was going all out in her attack on Paige, yet Paige responded with such dismissive remarks, making Mona’s expression turn even sourer.
"So Paige, are you admitting you’re trying to sabotage?"
Paige chuckled, "Whatever makes you happy."
When Mona wanted to say more, Skylar held her back, "Mona, let it go, we don’t need to stoop to her level."
Just then, Paige finished tidying up and turned to leave.
Instinctively, Skylar followed Paige because Paige’s tone earlier made her uncomfortable. She needed Paige to know her entry into the research field really had nothing to do with her!
However, Paige’s figure quickly disappeared, and Skylar couldn’t find her despite searching.
At that mont, Skylar suddenly noticed an elderly man in a polo shirt standing there, smiling at them.
That was, of course, Professor Lancaster, who had worn the sa polo shirt during the lecture.
Skylar had no idea how long Professor Lancaster had been standing there, but the fact that he was still smiling surely ant he was looking at her, right?
If he was watching Paige, then surely he must have seen Paige’s behavior earlier and wouldn’t like her, hence he wouldn’t be smiling.
So even though Professor Lancaster verbally rejected her, was he secretly assessing her? Was this a test for her?
Skylar couldn’t help but feel excited.
Paige, Paige, you didn’t expect your brazen behavior to be seen by Professor Lancaster and even less expected that you would end up aiding the person you despise most, right?
Skylar decided to take this chance to greet Professor Lancaster, in hopes of giving him a new impression.
She took a deep breath and walked up to him.
"Hello, Professor Lancaster."
Professor Lancaster hadn’t t Skylar before, so he naturally didn’t recognize her.
But since Skylar had co up so familiarly to greet him, he guessed she might be one of the students he had taught during his university days, so he felt embarrassed to admit he had no impression of her. Thus, he just smiled.
"Is that you? You are..."
He intentionally paused, and sure enough, Skylar imdiately followed up, "I’m Skylar Hughes. So, Professor Lancaster, you know ."
Great, Professor Lancaster knew who she was, which indicated he had so understanding of her and must have looked over her submitted paper.
If he really had no intention of taking her as a student, how would he recognize her on their first eting?
