The Headline Queen: President Hawthorne is Her Die-Hard Fan! Chapter 264: Aunt
Chloe Hughes was getting angrier and angrier, so she went to find Yvette Hughes—if she wanted to deal with Paige Sterling, Yvette was her only option.
However, when she arrived at the Sterling Family house, she barely said a few words to Yvette before Yvette started throwing up.
Chloe remarked, "What’s wrong with you? Could you be pregnant?"
Yvette froze for a mont and whispered, "These days... I haven’t been using birth control..."
Chloe imdiately stood up, "Co on, let’s go to the hospital for a check-up first."
"How about waiting for Jared to co back first..."
If she really was pregnant, she wanted Jared Sullivan to be the first to know.
But Chloe said, "Are you stupid? Didn’t he tell you he doesn’t want kids? If you let him know now, what if he tells you to have an abortion? And what if it’s all for nothing? Co on, I’ll take you to the hospital first, and we’ll talk after it’s confird."
A bit dazed, Yvette let Chloe take her to the hospital. After an ultrasound, the doctor told Yvette, "You’re pregnant."
Yvette felt both shocked and thrilled at the news.
Chloe, however, had a sowhat peculiar expression.
Even though she had been encouraging Yvette to get pregnant, now that Yvette really was, she felt all sorts of mixed feelings.
Both sisters, why was fate so biased, giving all the good things to Yvette?
A good husband, a wealthy life, and now even a child; what was left for Yvette to want?
Yvette then took out her phone, "I want to call Jared and tell him this good news..."
Chloe imdiately stopped her, "Why are you so silly? If you tell Jared now that you deliberately didn’t use birth control to get pregnant, what will he think? Can you even keep this child?"
"But I’m already pregnant, I can’t just not tell Jared forever..."
"It’s not about not telling him, it’s about how you tell him," Chloe said. "If you want to keep this child, you have to listen to ."
Not having much confidence in herself, Yvette was now filled with trepidation by Chloe’s words, almost instinctively following Chloe’s lead.
"So what do you think I should do now?"
"Of course, go to Paige. This is a major thing, and you should tell her first to make her happy."
Chloe’s face briefly flashed with scheming; the best outco would be for Paige to be so enraged that Yvette loses the baby, leading to a complete fallout between Yvette and Paige. Even Jared would be extrely disappointed in his daughter, Paige.
Unaware of Chloe’s ulterior motives, Yvette truly believed Chloe was looking out for her and indeed went to find Paige.
She went straight to Penson to find Paige.
This was the first ti Yvette, as a stepmother, had co to the office to find Paige. The company staff thought sothing big had happened and quickly called Paige’s office.
Paige had her assistant bring Yvette up.
Yvette appeared a bit uneasy and nervous.
Paige poured her a glass of water, "Auntie, is there sothing you need to tell ?"
Yvette hesitated for a mont and said, "Auntie has sothing to tell you."
"Go ahead."
Since Yvette had made the effort to co to the company and seed so conflicted, Paige wanted to know what it was about.
After a long pause, Yvette said, "Auntie... is pregnant."
Paige was a bit taken aback, but since it wasn’t her being pregnant, beyond being a little surprised, she felt none of the joy or disappointnt or such emotions.
She didn’t think too much about it and asked Yvette, "Does my dad know? Why didn’t you tell my dad when you’re pregnant?"
Given Yvette’s character, she’d be eager to tell Jared the mont she got pregnant. Why would she co looking for her?
"Your dad..."
Yvette lowered her head and said sadly, "Paige, you should know that when your dad married , he said he didn’t want more children, so we’ve been using birth control these years. But, Paige, how can a woman not wish for a child with her husband? You’re not ho, and Skylar has also left the Hawthorne Family, leaving increasingly lonely over these years. So I’ve been hiding it from your dad and not using contraception. If your dad finds out I’m pregnant, he’ll definitely take to get an abortion. I don’t want to lose this child..."
It was clear that Yvette was truly afraid of Jared taking her to get an abortion.
"Auntie, do you understand my dad?" Paige looked at Yvette.
Jared’s desire not to have more children largely had to do with her.
He didn’t dislike children, but since she was grown now, such concerns didn’t exist for Jared anymore.
Furthermore, if there really were a child, Jared wouldn’t actually have Yvette get an abortion.
Yet Yvette chose not to seek out Jared but ca to her instead, obviously with an ulterior motive.
While it was understandable for Yvette to have such motives, Paige disliked how Yvette involved her in her sches.
It made it seem like everything was her fault, as if she couldn’t accept this child, pushing Yvette to tell her first for peace of mind.
Paige remained composed, "Auntie, let take you back to the Sterling Family house first."
Paige took Yvette back to the Sterling Family house, and it wasn’t long after that Jared also returned. Upon seeing Paige, a smile appeared on his face.
"Beau is back..."
But Jared soon noticed sothing was wrong with the atmosphere, "Beau, what’s up?"
It couldn’t be that there was a conflict between Paige and Yvette, could it?
Just as Jared was feeling puzzled, Paige spoke up.
"Auntie is pregnant; she might be feeling a bit anxious, she ca to see today. Dad, you should talk to her properly."
She then added, "Having a little brother or sister would make quite happy too."
Having said that, Paige left the space for the couple and departed.
After recovering from the shock, Jared also ca to understand.
This unexpected late offspring brought him a mix of feelings only fleetingly.
Soon after, he understood the situation, and he looked intently at Yvette, "Who told you to do this?"
Yvette imdiately replied, "I wanted the child myself; no one told to do it..."
"I asked who told you to go to Beau. Why are you looking for Beau when you’re pregnant?"
It wasn’t hard to guess that, behind Yvette’s actions, it was either Chloe or Skylar Hughes pushing her.
Yvette imdiately lowered her head, mumbling too intimidated to speak.
She also understood now, what angered Jared was not her concealing the pregnancy from him, but the fact she went to Paige first.
"I’m sorry, Jared, I was confused, I..."
"Let it go, since Beau already said so, there’s no point in fussing... "
Jared glanced at Yvette’s belly, saying nothing.
As Paige had thought, while knowing Yvette had played so tricks, since the child was already conceived, Jared agreed to keep it.
Now that Paige had grown, with her own family and career, his concerns were significantly reduced. Having a child, perhaps wasn’t such a bad thing, it could at least put Yvette at ease, preventing her from overthinking constantly.
Paige indeed didn’t hold a grudge. During this ti, she visited the Sterling Family occasionally to see Skylar Hughes.
A few days later, Paige attended a party with Julian Hawthorne, surprisingly eting soone special—Julian’s aunt—at the event.
She ca directly to the party upon returning, without going back to The Hawthorne Family. Julian only learned she was back upon seeing her at the party.
Julian subsequently introduced her to Paige, "This is my aunt."
Paige promptly nodded, respectfully calling out, "Aunt."
Faye Hawthorne looked at Paige with a cheerful smile, "So this is Paige? The old gentleman often talked of you. I’ve long wanted to et you, and you’re indeed more beautiful and talented than what everyone says."
