Chapter 65: Chapter 65
"You’re lucky today. You get to eat outside with
twice. Consider it a reward for all the work you put into discovering information about what I passed to you. Or should I credit Jero?" Veronica wondered.
"No. I pay him and my resources help him get the information for . Credit only ," Liam answered.
"I’m starting to realise that you’re a greedy man but I can overlook it since you have taste. This is a good view," Veronica said, looking out the window to view the city. "We’re just a little too high up. Did we co here often?"
"One or two tis. I think this is where you treated the employees at the gallery to dinner. The food is good," Liam promised.
"If it wasn’t, the view is enough to make up for it. It must be fun to live in an apartnt and look out at the city but I wouldn’t give up our view at ho for anything. I think we sotis miss the beauty of the city when we’re driving around," Veronica said as it only now showed the beauty from the height she sat at.
Veronica thought her eyes were playing tricks on her but they weren’t as she spotted a billboard with a familiar face.
’She models,’ Veronica realised.
Veronica looked away from the image of Sabrina since she didn’t have much interest in the woman. She stared at Liam, trying to guess how many more won interested in him she would have to co by.
"Again, I think you should wear a hat when we leave ho. Since I’ve woken up, I have t woman after woman who is in love with you or perhaps in love with your family na. How can I make you ugly?" She wondered.
Liam didn’t want any part in her plan. "You can start by leaving
alone."
"If you are still planning to sleep in our bedroom tonight then you need to be careful. I might start my plan then," Veronica warned Liam.
"This is the price of
moving back into our bedroom? To get turned ugly? I don’t see why you’re thinking about who likes ," said Liam.
Veronica leaned forward to whisper, "Tell
the truth, have you ever been jealous of soone around ?"
"Yes. Back in college, you had a little bee around. He reached out to you over a year ago acting like he didn’t know we were still married. It wasn’t like two friends catching up. That idiot wanted to take you out to dinner," Liam said, still annoyed by it.
It was mostly annoying for Liam since he had never liked the guy before he started to date Veronica. Knowing he also liked Veronica was the final nail in the coffin for Liam.
Veronica laughed as it wasn’t the story she was expecting to hear. "It’s small in comparison to what I go through with you but good to know. Why haven’t you ordered wine? Just because I am not drinking doesn’t an you don’t have to."
"I drove," Liam reminded Veronica.
"Right," Veronica smiled.
Her smile didn’t last long when she noticed a face she didn’t want to see.
"Liam," Veronica tapped his hand. "Your parents."
How could they be here when it didn’t feel that long ago since she sat down with Liam and ordered drinks? It couldn’t be a coincidence.
Liam didn’t turn around to look at them since he knew they would be coming right for him and Veronica. "Do you want to go?"
"No," Veronica shook her head. She would not give Adeline the pleasure of seeing her leave early twice. "I’m going to enjoy my dinner and then go ho."
"Liam!" Nathan spread his arms for Liam to get up and greet him. "What a pleasant surprise."
"Surprise?" Liam looked up at his father, unamused. "This isn’t a coincidence. You finally drag her out of the house and this is where you co?"
Nathan cleared his throat as he lowered his arms. "We didn’t want to miss this rare chance to have dinner with you."
"So, you admit that you’re stalking
now? I would bet money you’re the one behind it," Liam said, looking at his mother who tried to hide behind his father. "It’s big enough for all of us to eat without having to bother each other so go to your seat. Don’t," Liam warned his father after he started to pull a chair to his table. "I am not in the mood."
Adeline stepped forward to speak. "We’re finally giving you what you wanted which was having dinner with you and her-"
’My wife has a na," Liam interjected. "Veronica Sterling."
Nathan turned to Veronica who was in the sa position as he was. They had to sit back while mother and son argued with each other.
Adeline didn’t spare a glance at Veronica since she was here for Liam. "She can use the na but it doesn’t an she is part of the family. You’re supposed to be with your uncle and grandfather tonight. You still have ti to make it there. Don’t upset your grandfather."
Liam regretted not renting the restaurant out for the night. It was his plan when Veronica brought up dinner but then she decided she wanted to sit with other custors as it was a waste of money to just be the two of them.
Liam had an urge to tell Veronica he told her so that eating alone was the better option. They could afford it.
"Liam, I know you are busy with a recent event caused by soone-"
"I am sitting right here," Veronica spoke up as Adeline continued to act like she wasn’t.
Adeline continued, "But you shouldn’t ignore your grandfather. et with him just once to please him and then you can go back doing whatever you like."
’I am not going to support the Smiths so you can give up. I’m almost tempted to show support to another party," said Liam.
Adeline couldn’t believe her ears. If Liam did that there would be no coming back for him. "Liam, do not go against your family. All you have to do is support your uncle until he gets in and then you’re done."
"I am not stupid. Once I start showing any support then you’re going to drag
into that ss. I don’t want any part of it and you’re ruining my night so please, find soone else to bother before I call a staff mber to remove you," Liam said, tapping his fingers on the table. It helped hold back his anger.
Adeline placed her hands on the table. She should have listened to her father when he said that sotis a child needed a little spanking. "I am trying to protect you."
"No, you’re trying to help cage ," Liam corrected his mother.
