Chapter 57: Chapter 57
By two, Liam and Veronica were on their way ho after having lunch together.
Veronica was in a good mood since the lunch went well with Liam answering all of her questions. She looked forward to hearing updates about her father since Jero was already inford to find soone to track down her father.
She was anxious and excited at the sa ti. It was nerve-wracking to think about what kind of man her father might be. Was he similar to Evelyn or was this a case of opposites being attracted to each other?
Searching for her father and eting him could result in having two parents asking for money but Veronica needed her answers. She would be positive about imagining her father to be a good man.
Liam looked closely at the car outside their ho. He knew who it belonged to and she had so nerve coming to see Veronica after what she did.
Veronica was too busy looking at the hos of their neighbours to notice the car parked waiting for their arrival.
It was only when Liam’s window was tapped on and his na called out that she realised they had a visitor.
"Who is it?" Veronica asked, surprised but also not very surprised it was a woman doing this.
Liam couldn’t seem to avoid having all these won around him.
"She’s my cousin I told you about. The one who you used to be friends with," Liam inford Veronica.
"Oh," Veronica replied. "Why is she acting like this? Beating on your window?"
"I don’t know and I don’t care to find out," said Liam.
Liam drove the car inside and pressed his remote for the gates to close but he didn’t make it far as his cousin was bold to run inside.
Liam parked the car and got out to deal with her before it got even more out of hand. "What the hell are you doing here?"
"Liam, just hear
out okay?" Julia Smith pleaded. She looked inside the car at Veronica watching the two of them. "I’ve been waiting for hours to see her. I would have co sooner but-"
"I would prefer if you minded your business and not co to her. What information are you fishing for this ti to tell my mother? You’re going to throw Veronica under a bus to save yourself again?" Liam asked, refusing to let Veronica get close to Julia again.
"I know what I did was wrong but at the ti, it was the only thing I could think of. If I could turn back ti then I wouldn’t have brought up Veronica. It’s just that she’s safe either way and your mother was poking at my flaws so I directed her to Veronica. I am so sorry," Julia apologised.
Julia tried desperately to reach out to Veronica once she saw the news but Veronica would not answer her text or calls. Rightfully so Veronica shouldn’t want anything to do with her since she broke the trust they built over the years.
"I want to apologise to her and explain my side. I feel terrible about what I did and after seeing that she almost died, I can’t just ignore her. Please, Liam. I waited here for hours just to see her. Please just let
see her," Julia pleaded.
She was making a fool of herself by waiting outside their ho like a stalker and if her mother knew what she was doing right now, Julia would never hear the end of it. Still, she had to make things right with both Liam and Veronica.
Veronica got out of the car to save Liam from the woman on the brink of tears. All she knew was that his cousin said sothing about her to Adeline to get herself out of trouble. Rather than have Liam deal with this woman, she would do it in his place.
"Liam, I will speak to her. You can take the car inside the garage. This is getting louder by the second and any minute now she could have soone looking outside. Just take the car to the garage please," said Veronica.
Soone who waited hours for them to arrive wasn’t going to leave until they got what they ca to say out.
Veronica was curious about this cousin. She wanted to know exactly what was said to Adeline.
Liam reluctantly got in the car and took it to the garage. Julia couldn’t be trusted but she wasn’t stupid to hurt Veronica.
"You have your chance to speak," Veronica said, impatient.
Julia looked down at the pavent, unable to et Veronica’s eyes right away. "I’m sorry. You looked to
as a friend and the first chance I got I gave away your secret. I feel really terrible about it and even more guilty that you could have left us without
telling you that I am sorry to your face. I really am. It’s been eating
up inside for the last couple of days.
"I," Julia walked toward Veronica but noticed how Veronica stepped back so she stopped. "I wanted to see how you were doing. I know that the family is still against you and most of them celebrated the prospect of being rid of you once and for all."
"What did you say to Adeline?" Veronica asked as this was the most important part for her. What did Julia think was worth revealing to get herself out of Adeline’s path?
Julia didn’t want to bring it up. "I already told you and I don’t want to bring it up again. Please accept my apology. I want us to be friends again. We’re family but our friendship was important to ."
"I accept your apology so you can stop feeling guilty and waiting outside our ho like this but I don’t want a friendship with you," Veronica said, unwilling to give Julia another chance to betray her. She had a big secret now that she didn’t want Adeline to know.
Veronica didn’t have any mory of Julia to know she could trust her again and if she were to blindly welco Julia back into her life, it would upset Liam. It wasn’t worth making Liam angry.
"Let’s end our old friendship here peacefully. I am not angry with you so you should stop feeling guilty and go on with your life. I’d be happy if you do that and don’t show up in front of our ho like this. This is my peace and you’re disturbing it," Veronica said.
Julia couldn’t let it end like this. "I won’t stab you in the back again. I promise you. This guilt is too much for
to do it again. I sent you all those texts to show you just how sorry I am and how I planned to make it up to you. It hurt to see you read them and not be affected at all-"
"What? I read texts?" Veronica asked, puzzled by this since she didn’t see any ssages. "When did you send
texts?"
Julia didn’t understand why Veronica was asking this when she saw Veronica had read the ssages. "I called and texted you when it got out you left the hospital but you only read them today. The text must have co off like a load of lies but I promise you that is how I feel."
Veronica wasn’t interested in what the text said. Instead, she was more interested in the fact that soone was using her old phone.
