Chapter 138: Chapter 138
Benjamin couldn’t believe his ears that Adeline was turning her back on the family. "What happened to family being the most important thing? What happened to keeping the Smiths on top? After everything we’ve done so far, this is how you want it to end?"
"I cared about our family but year after year I was sent to clean up after you. You can have it now since I don’t want to make our father proud. You always wanted to take his spot and now you have it so congratulations. You better hope whoever set you up doesn’t pin whatever happened to our father on you," said Adeline.
As curious as Adeline was about the man who went after her father, she couldn’t go searching just yet to solve what happened to him. Her mother informing the police about his disappearance should be enough for now.
"Adeline!" Benjamin called to his sister. He still needed her help. "I can’t get out of this without you. I was so close."
What was he to do without Adeline?
Adeline ignored Benjamin’s calls and exited the room to et with Nathan. She couldn’t be out for long since she was going to be questioned about Benjamin.
"Did it go well?" Nathan asked since he couldn’t hear anything from outside. Coming ho for Adeline to speak to Benjamin wasn’t sothing he liked but he couldn’t keep her from seeing her mother.
"It’s Benjamin so of course it didn’t go well. He’s freaking out and it looked like he was still drinking at one point. He wants
to save him but even if I could, I wouldn’t. It’s about ti he faced so consequences. I will let him suffer a bit more and then co back to convince him to enter rehab," said Adeline.
It was the only solution Adeline could think of at the mont to calm this down.
"I will need to call soone to make sure he doesn’t leave this place. Don’t look at
like that Nathan. I can’t have him leave and do sothing stupid. You’re married to
so the reporters will start approaching the Sterlings when they don’t answer from the Smiths. That’s all," Adeline said, hoping he didn’t think it was more.
Adeline was worried about herself and her family, not about Benjamin.
Nathan wanted to try to believe Adeline that she wasn’t thinking about solving all of this for her brother. "What about your father? Any word about where he is?"
Adeline shook her head. "I was lucky that I wasn’t here to attend that party with them. Soone might have taken my father and Benjamin only rembered the first na. I don’t believe everything Benjamin says. He would be stupid enough to go after our father. He has always been greedy."
Nathan would be shocked if Benjamin plotted to kill his father. The siblings never stood up to their father to the degree they would kill him so what changed for Benjamin? "Only speak to your mother and avoid coming to your brother or communicating with your relatives. They’ll start throwing each other under the bus to save themselves."
"I know. That is why I haven’t told anyone that I am back. Did you hear from Liam?" Adeline asked, curious about what their son had to say. "He must be enjoying this and it could be that he was the one behind all of this."
"It could be but I don’t think it is. What would have pushed him to do all of this? You said that you weren’t the one trying to kill Veronica," Nathan said, still yet to believe that Adeline didn’t have any part in it.
"It wasn’t ," Adeline answered for the last ti. "I was planning a way to get them to divorce but I won’t take credit for soone trying to kill her. It’s about ti that you believe . I don’t want to hear about her or you’ll give
more of a headache than I already have. Let us go ho before soone sees us."
Nathan held Adeline’s hand to lead her out of the house owned by the Smiths. A nice tip about this place would have it surrounded by reporters in no ti. Then Adeline wouldn’t want to co back here in secret.
Away from Benjamin’s hideout, Henry paced back and forth. He had yet to find Evelyn, co up with a solution to help the dealership and help Beth with her legal troubles. He was so close to getting Beth out so she could be ho while they awaited her court date but he had to use his money on the dealership so he wouldn’t lose it.
"There’s a buyer so don’t panic yet," Henry said, trying to calm himself.
He didn’t understand what Evelyn was doing since she didn’t clear out any of his money and all of her things remained here. Even her car was still present which ant that she was coming back.
"Is she waiting for things to cool down?" Henry wondered.
He didn’t like that as soon as the family found itself in hot water Evelyn dipped and was waiting for everything to cool down. She couldn’t just co back when she thought everything was fine.
Henry had his phone in his hand but he didn’t know who to call. Who could he turn to at a ti like this and expect them to listen when everyone was turning their backs on him?
Beth’s accident started it but then news of his dealership going under made his peers start to distance themselves from him. They assud he would want money and it was true.
Henry couldn’t pinpoint when the old loan got so out of hand that the interest caused what he owed to rise and now, he didn’t have all the money to pay it off one ti like it was being demanded back. His only choice was to sell the dealership, add so of the money he had in the bank, and try to start over with another business sohow.
To Henry, he could co out of this better than anyone was imagining and when he did, Evelyn had to go. His life had never been good since Evelyn and Veronica ca into it. Beth lost her chance to beco a Sterling and he spent a lot of money on a child that wasn’t his.
Henry started to walk toward the bedroom he shared with Evelyn but the bell stopped him. "Who is it now?"
Henry didn’t have ti to be bothered by anyone. Unless it was Evelyn returning with a good excuse, no one should expect to see him now. "What is this?" He asked, puzzled by the large number of n with boxes in their hands.
"We’re a moving company sent by Evelyn Harper."
