Chapter 128: Chapter 128

Benjamin tried to keep up with where Dean walked. What was said to his father? Why did the two n just walk away?

It didn’t look like his father was close to the stranger so Benjamin cald down a bit, no longer worried that this was all a big test from his father.

’He should have spoken to

first,’ Benjamin thought. Then he could have shared that his father didn’t like newcors. No one would be let into his space easily without showing how much they had or doing sothing else to impress Vance.

Benjamin left the n he needed to speak to and entered the party to witness any more interactions his partner in cri had with his father. "He should use

more."

Benjamin had to introduce this man to his father, which was the only way for them to chat. What did this man have to impress his father with?

"How did he get an invite?" Benjamin wondered.

It wasn’t easy to get invited to this party unless your na held so weight or you were friends with soone who thought you should be there.

Benjamin scanned the room with his eyes, trying to find the person who might be backing the man after his father.

The room was full of snakes who would like to see the Smiths fall but for now, they would hide their dislike of Vance so they wouldn’t be on the list of people Vance would take down. Anyone could be backing this man. There only needed to be a slip-up for Benjamin to find out who it was.

"What the hell is his na?" Benjamin muttered, frustrated that he hadn’t gotten a first or last na. That was all he needed to have so clue about this stranger who showed up out of nowhere. "I need a photo of his face. That’s right," he realised.

They weren’t in a secluded place where no one could see him. Everyone here had a phone for a picture to be taken.

Benjamin reached into his pocket for his phone but stopped just as he touched it. There was a lot of attention on him so what would he look like snapping a picture of soone? Then it would point all attention to who he was taking a photo of and then he would be caught.

"Dammit," Benjamin muttered. He could only watch from afar.

Across the room, Dean was enjoying himself though he was a little annoyed.

’And he wondered why he was useless?’ Dean thought about Benjamin.

Benjamin couldn’t do one little simple task of not staring at the man helping him to get rid of his father. Again, Dean had to wonder which idiot thought Benjamin was fit to be in a seat of power in the city even if he was just a puppet.

Dean was certain he could pay Benjamin to avoid looking at him for five minutes and Benjamin would not look his way.

Dean took a drink from a passing server and kept his attention on Vance Smith. It angered her at tis to see Vance smiling so much after what he had done to Veronica.

Vance reminded Dean of many of his clients. Had Dean spent more ti in this city then there could have been a chance that he would have done a job for Vance. It would have been good timing if he was amongst the n who went after Veronica so he could have stopped her from experiencing what she did but that kind of work was beneath him now.

It crossed Dean’s mind to take one of Vance’s children and let him watch them suffer the sa fate he wanted Veronica to suffer. The thought went just as it ca. Dean wanted to hold on to his one rule which made him feel less evil. Innocent people shouldn’t be hard.

It got him into quite a bit of trouble with his peers and clients but Dean ignored their complaints.

Would Veronica applaud him for that or would she still see him as a monster?

Along with her safety, Dean didn’t want to face her to see her reaction to the man her father was. That look would stay in his mind forever and haunt him.

"Kevin!"

Dean turned to his right after hearing the fake na he was using for the night. He needed to have a word with one of his n who decided he would be Kevin tonight.

"You said you wanted to et with Vance Smith so why don’t I introduce you? You’ll need to be careful since he isn’t an easy man."

Dean took a small sip of whatever was in his glass. "Lucky . Those are the n I am good at handling."

Dean walked with the friend he had made to get to this party. All he needed to do was flash a bit of money and suddenly he had all kinds of friends he didn’t know he had before.

"Mr Smith, have you t my friend Mr Cornell yet? He’s a businessman new to the city."

Vance glanced at the man who tried to introduce himself earlier. "We had a brief eting. I was wondering who invited the new face. So, it was you. What kind of business do you have? The na doesn’t ring a bell."

"I’m a man with all kinds of businesses. I put my money in what will make

money. You won’t know my na since I tend to stay in the background. I am also generous in lending out money to those who need it but I might not be so kind when getting it back," said Dean.

Vance smiled. "I see why they might be hovering around you. Many of the n here are putting on airs like they have a lot of money but then they go to n like you. That is if you are what you say you are. We’ve had a lot of n co into our circles and claim to be soone they are not. I would hate to have to blacklist you."

"I assure you that I am who I say I am but if you don’t believe

then there’s nothing I can do. I hope a man like you does not end up requiring my services. The Smiths are quite well known in and out of the city. No one would expect them to borrow but it wouldn’t be surprising if you do," Dean said, ignoring the tap on his arm to stop.

Vance wasn’t offended since he would never have to borrow. "Of course not."

"Father! I was looking all over for you," Benjamin said, interrupting the conversation. He was too curious about what was being said to stay away. "Can you introduce

to the new face?"
