After Damien and Ethan disappeared in the elevator, Lane stood rooted in place for a mont longer. Then, he abruptly turned around...

And barged into the private guiding room the two had been in just a few minutes prior.

There was sothing he absolutely had to confirm. Yes, he had been eavesdropping all the ti they had been in, save for the first minute or two, so he knew that nothing had happened, but...

He approached the couch, staring at it intently. Then, he looked at the armchair next to it. He crouched down, tapping them both with his hand... And finally, he leaned forward, and sniffed. As an SS-rank Esper, he had far more advanced senses than a normal human being. Naturally, it also included his sense of sll and touch. Thus, he could find clues that a regular person wouldn’t be able to...

And thanks to that, he was able to confirm that Ethan and Damien didn’t sit together on the couch. Damien chose to sit on the armchair, putting a respectable distance between them. Of course, Lane had already expected that he would do that...

Still, he was glad to be able to confirm it without a shadow of doubt. He stood up, fixing his clothes, the corners of his mouth lifting slightly in a hint of a smile...

But then, he rembered the conversation that Damien and Ethan had in this place, and his smile completely washed away.

’Team Leader, you seem like a top to .’

’Lane doesn’t let you top, does he?’

’He wants to date another top and still won’t switch? Isn’t that selfish?’

Lane gritted his teeth, his hands tightening into fists.

He didn’t know what pissed him off more: the fact that Ethan dared to spout such things in front of Damien... Or that he was right.

Yes, it was selfish. Lane was selfish. He never claid that he wasn’t.

But it wasn’t that he didn’t think about others at all! He always made sure that both parties were satisfied in bed. It was always on his terms, but still!

And it wasn’t the first ti Lane topped the top. It was his preference, actually. He had done it many tis before, turning proud tops into bottoms... Sure, those were only short flings, and he had no idea what had happened to them afterwards, whether they went back to topping, or continued on as bottoms... But it was all consensual, they were satisfied with the sex and didn’t complain, so it was alright, no?

And Damien didn’t complain either. Not to ntion, between the two of them, it was obviously Lane who was more of a top! After all, Lane had ALWAYS been the top, through all his years of experience. As for Damien... Damien had only ever bottod. So, even if he SEED like a top, could he really be considered one?

Of course, when it ca to Damien, Lane was the only partner he ever had... So, he didn’t exactly get a chance to top. In this case, wasn’t this judgnt... a little unfair?

It wasn’t like he had never expressed any desire to top. He had ntioned it before... Once. Just once. Lane had completely shot him down back then, and Damien had never brought it up again...

But now that he thought about it, perhaps it wasn’t so much that he didn’t want it anymore... Just that he didn’t know how to bring it up? He rarely spoke up for himself, expressing what he wanted, and was always very mindful of Lane. Perhaps even TOO mindful. Not that Lane didn’t like it, but...

’I can give you sothing Lane never would be able to.’

Ethan’s words rang in his ears, invading his body, and lodging sowhere in his chest uncomfortably.

...It was so annoying.

Ethan would be able to give Damien sothing Lane could never do?

As if!

Unless it’s about the guiding - in which case, although Lane could give Damien so guiding, he... had to admit he couldn’t possibly compete with Ethan’s near-perfect matching rate - Lane could win against Ethan in any other way. Whether it was earning Damien’s feelings and affections...

Or satisfying the man in bed.

...Even if he had to surrender his ass along the way.

Lane nodded his head to himself, making a decision. Yes, he could make that sacrifice. If it was Damien... Then perhaps Lane could even allow him to be the top, once in a while. Like as a birthday present or sothing. Maybe, just maybe, also on the anniversary, or if the sex was good that day... Or maybe Lane could even be bribed with sweets. All that is to say, he was willing to make an exception for Damien.

That was what Damien ultimately was in his life. An exception. In many ways.

...It was sothing to think about later, though. The first ti had to be special. It required a lot of consideration and careful planning... It wasn’t sothing Lane should do on a whim.

There was no rush, after all, now was there? Damien had waited for so long... Sure, a day or two... or three, more wouldn’t hurt.

And Lane had other things on his mind for now. He had to finally take care of his license exam, and deal with Ethan... Then, once everything was settled, he would present his ass to Damien.

Maybe as a birthday present? That sounded nice! There was still a lot of ti left before Damien’s birthday... But that was a good thing, no?

Having made up his mind, Lane left the Association Headquarters, and headed back to their apartnt building to grab his car, arranging a dungeon access for himself with one of the Guilds. He still needed to blow off so steam after all the morning chaos, after all. He settled for the sa dungeon as the previous day - he didn’t have much ti today, as he wanted to be back ho before Damien, so it was best to go to a dungeon he already knew!
