Chapter 394: Chapter 394: Unexpected Invitation
If Ling Feng had seen Wang Laogen in the county or provincial city, he wouldn’t have been so surprised.
He had just arrived in Demon Capital, and to see this old man in a street restaurant, he found it utterly unexpected!
With a grin on his face, Wang Laogen waved and said, "Co over here, it’s really , could there be a fake?"
Scratching his head, Ling Feng, holding Chen Yuhe’s hand, walked up and saw the old man sitting alone at the table, so he sat down and asked, "What are you doing here?"
"Would you believe
if I said it’s a coincidence?" Wang Laogen laughed.
"No way! That would be too much of a coincidence, right?" Ling Feng shook his head.
Wang Laogen humd in agreent, "Indeed, so this is not a coincidence. I ca here specifically for you."
"Why?" Ling Feng was completely puzzled.
"This isn’t the place to talk. Aren’t you here to try the restaurant’s special dishes? Let’s talk after you’ve eaten!"
Wang Laogen glanced around, clearly implying that this was not the place for their conversation.
Ling Feng suddenly understood and nodded, "All right, let’s eat first!"
Seeing it as a chance eting with an old acquaintance, and with Chen Yuhe’s introduction, he ordered seven or eight dishes in one go. If the table weren’t too small, Ling Feng might have ordered even more.
The three of them chatted casually while eating, mainly discussing the foundation’s affairs.
Wang Laogen had already established a network covering the capital cities across the country and was currently collecting information to identify patients with difficult and costly treatnts, from which they would select those most in need of continued assistance.
Nearly a thousand people were working hard on this project, and the daily wages alone amounted to several hundred thousand.
However, these expenses were still not too burdenso, as Wang Laogen was also selling Ling Feng’s dicinal Pills; the inco and expenses were still balanced.
After listening, Ling Feng nodded and said to the old man, "Thanks for your and everyone’s hard work. Once I finish with things here in Demon Capital, I’ll go back and start making dicine, aiming to produce so very potent dicinal Pills!"
"That’s up to you. You’re the most crucial part. If you can’t produce the dicine, all our initial efforts will be in vain!" Wang Laogen said.
After lunch, the three left the restaurant.
Ling Feng looked at Wang Laogen, "How co it’s just you? Didn’t you bring a bodyguard or sothing?"
"Bodyguard? I’m not so rich tycoon, nor do I have enemies. What do I need a bodyguard for?" Wang Laogen glanced at him.
Ling Feng chuckled, "Don’t tell
you don’t have money, I wouldn’t believe it!"
"Don’t believe it then, I wouldn’t tell you even if I did!" Wang Laogen rolled his eyes.
As they joked, a black sedan pulled up beside them. Just as Ling Feng was wondering about it, the car door opened, and a man in black with sunglasses got out.
"Mr. Ling Feng, I presu?"
"That’s . Who are you?"
Ling Feng was sowhat surprised; who would stop him on the street like this?
The young man bowed slightly, "I’ve been sent by Mr. Lin. He heard that you’ve arrived in Demon Capital and has asked
to bring you this invitation, hoping that you can attend the reception tonight."
"Mr. Lin? Lin Huaqiang?"
Ling Feng appeared stunned, then blurted out.
The young man nodded with neither servility nor overbearing pride, "Yes, that’s Mr. Lin."
"Alright, I might not have ti tonight, but we’ll see," Ling Feng said with a wry smile.
"Mr. Lin said you’ll definitely have ti, as the event you’re involved in only goes until seven this evening, and our reception doesn’t start until eight," the young man explained.
Ling Feng’s mouth twitched. What kind of Immortal was this, knowing his schedule so thoroughly?
"Fine, I got it."
He took the invitation card and casually stuffed it into his pocket.
The young man had completed the mission and drove away, leaving Ling Feng with a bitter smile.
At this mont, Chen Yuhe could not help but ask, "Could it be that Lin Xue made a phone call, telling her dad?"
"If that were the case, then there’s nothing strange about it, but I think there’s more to it than that."
Ling Feng shook his head and turned to notice Wang Laogen wearing a smug expression. He couldn’t help but ask, "What’s with that look? Is there sothing fishy going on?"
"Let’s talk when we get back, why chat on the roadside?"
Wang Laogen gave him a disdainful glance and turned to walk in the direction of the hotel.
Ling Feng was speechless and, pulling Chen Yuhe along, the three of them hurried back to the hotel room.
As he set down a pile of stuff, Ling Feng sighed in relief, "Now we can talk, right?"
Wang Laogen chuckled, sat on the sofa with his legs crossed, and complained with discomfort, "Why am I so thirsty?"
"Damn! You’re doing this on purpose!" Ling Feng exploded in anger.
Chen Yuhe, however, tugged at his sleeve and stepped forward with a smile, "Old master, don’t rush. I’ll make you so tea right now!"
She was aware of the situation between Ling Feng and Wang Laogen. These two, one old and one young, had been working together for so long; they had beco fast friends. This scenario didn’t surprise her at all.
The tea was quickly prepared, and Wang Laogen took a sip, his face showing satisfaction, "I have to say, the tea Yuhe makes is really fragrant!"
"You flatter , old master," Chen Yuhe replied with a smile.
Ling Feng had grown accustod to his behavior of deliberately hiding things, so he wasn’t in a hurry anymore and simply sat down opposite Wang Laogen, staring at him without speaking.
Wang Laogen drank a couple of sips of tea and knew he couldn’t beat around the bush any longer. He then said with a smile, "I’m actually here to attend tonight’s reception as well!"
"Oh, how did you know I was here?" Ling Feng asked.
"Lin Huaqiang told . Running into you just now at the restaurant was certainly coincidental. I had planned to find you after dinner here at the hotel," Wang Laogen explained.
Ling Feng nodded, "I see, are you familiar with him?"
Wang Laogen glanced at him, "You know what you want to ask. I’m quite familiar with him, yes."
"What do you an ’quite familiar’?" Ling Feng was puzzled.
"Because I’m even more familiar with his wife!" Wang Laogen chuckled.
Seeing his lecherous smile, Ling Feng’s eyes bulged, "Damn, you didn’t do sothing shady with Lin Xue’s mom, did you?"
Wang Laogen’s smile froze on his face, and he gave Ling Feng a stern look, "Nonsense, what are you babbling about!"
Seeing the old man flustered for the first ti, Ling Feng quickly tried to smooth things over with a laugh, "My mistake, but who can bla
when you look so lecherous? It’s only natural to wonder!"
"How is that lecherous? I was just recalling a warm smile from the past!" Wang Laogen retorted, clearly still offended by the joke—it was a sensitive subject for him!
So Ling Feng readily bowed, "My apologies, old master, I was wrong!"
"Hmph, Lin Huaqiang’s current wife is not Lin Xue’s mother, but her stepmother. She used to be my student, one of my most proud disciples!"
"Oh, I see, it’s like that!"
Ling Feng nodded in understanding.
He rembered the old man saying he was a retired dical professor.
He then chuckled, "Got it, got it. It’s my fault, I deserve to be scolded!"
