Chapter 28: Chapter 28 Encounter on the Road
The rabbit, hoisted by its ears in mid-air, clearly wasn’t very comfortable.
Yet it remained still, its limbs dangling without struggle, allowing Ling Feng to hold it that way.
Seeing this, Ling Feng let out a chuckle, and since there was nothing to carry it in, he decided it might as well follow him.
Setting the wild rabbit on the ground, Ling Feng said, "Just follow
quietly, don’t run off, or you’ll bear the consequences!"
Of course, the wild rabbit couldn’t verbally respond, but it stayed obediently by his side without any attempt to flee, as if it had understood!
Ling Feng felt a surge of pride inside, nodded slightly, and continued deeper into the valley.
More rabbits were stirred from the bushes behind him, but at his call, they too ca obediently to his feet, following along.
The scene began to look rather eerie, a man wandering aimlessly through a valley with several wild rabbits trailing behind like a dutiful guard squad.
Though the scene was sowhat comical, Ling Feng found it amusing and rather prideful. If he returned to the village like this, wouldn’t the people of Shiliu Village’s eyes pop out of their heads?
After wandering around the mountains for a while, he grew a bit tired, so instead of searching for more wild animals, he decided to gather so herbs to take back with him.
In fact, Ling Feng even hoped to stumble upon sothing like a century-old Lingzhi mushroom; the herbs weren’t important, what mattered was the Spiritual Beast that guarded it!
Unfortunately, by evening, Ling Feng had only gathered a dozen or so common dicinal herbs, not spotting anything of higher grade.
With a hint of disappointnt, he returned to the valley and saw the rabbits still grazing in the sa spot, not having run away.
"Co on, follow
ho. From now on, you’re with !" proclaid Ling Feng with a wave of his hand, and the rabbits imdiately gathered around and followed him out of the mountains.
Driving the three-wheeler, with a few days’ haul of wild rabbits and herbs, Ling Feng was in high spirits!
After getting ho, he found a cage for the rabbits and threw so corn in as a late-night snack. Ling Feng had already decided that these first animals that followed him, with whom he’d grown attached, couldn’t just be sold for money. Instead, he would keep them to breed the next generation and start selling them once there were more.
After nightfall, Ling Feng locked the door, organized the herbs he’d collected over the past days, and crafted several types of dicinal Pills, storing them in different bottles, all within a single pouch.
In the future, whenever he needed dicine, all he had to do was sift through his pouch, saving him the hassle he’d previously experienced when treating Li Shiyun’s illness.
After the night passed, Ling Feng got up, finished his morning routine, and headed straight for the village committee office.
Li Shiyun was having breakfast, with an egg, a cup of milk, and a slice of bread on the table.
Ling Feng didn’t enter the office but paused at the door and glanced at the breakfast table before saying with a laugh, "I was thinking of mooching breakfast off the Village Chief, but that’s so little, is it even enough for you?"
"It’s just enough for . What brings you here so early?"
Li Shiyun knew his comnt about mooching breakfast was just casual banter, so she skipped over the topic and asked.
"The contract is signed and that yard needs so tidying up. Could you help
out?" asked Ling Feng.
"What do you need
to do?" inquired Li Shiyun.
"Nothing much, just need a few people to work, clear out the weeds and trash from the yard. How about a hundred for a man’s day work, eighty for a woman’s? What do you think of the wage?"
"You’re paying that much?"
Li Shiyun asked, sowhat taken aback by the rate.
"Isn’t this the going rate in the city? Since we’re all from the sa village, how could I shortchange everyone’s wages?" Ling Feng said with a smile.
"Oh, that’s fine, I can help with this. How many people do you need?" Li Shiyun nodded.
Ling Feng thought for a mont, "We’ll need at least seven or eight. The yard is so big, and there’s plenty of work to do, but let’s not rush everyone. If we can’t finish today, there’s always tomorrow."
Li Shiyun, seeing this kind of hiring for the first ti, couldn’t help but ask curiously, "So where are you going?"
"I’m going into the city to buy stuff. Cages, feed troughs, water troughs, and the house needs repairs, I’ll have to look for a construction crew, right?"
"So that’s the plan. Then go ahead, Shiliu Village’s first sowhat formal investnt project—I’ll definitely support you fully!" Li Shiyun said with a laugh.
Hearing her say this, the corners of Ling Feng’s mouth curled up, and he couldn’t help but ask, "What? Not mad at
anymore?"
"Cut it out—I haven’t forgotten about that incident, but business is business, personal is personal, got it?" Li Shiyun said, glancing at him.
Although she said this, Ling Feng still felt that her gaze had softened compared to before, so he grinned, "Alright, then I’m off!"
After leaving Shiliu Village, Ling Feng sped along in his electric trike, thinking about all the errands he had to run today, hoping he had enough ti for everything.
But just as he reached the outskirts of the county, at the junction of city and countryside, a red sedan zood past his trike, nearly sending him flying!
Ling Feng was startled, then furious. He pointed at the car and cursed, "Are you freaking blind? Do you know how to drive?"
The red sedan was going so fast that he thought the other driver wouldn’t hear him but just as he finished shouting, the car screeched to a halt!
The car stopped and then reversed to halt beside Ling Feng. As the window rolled down, a girl wearing large sunglasses coldly asked, "What did you just say?"
Although he couldn’t see her eyes, the girl had delicate makeup, fair skin, and cheeks so tender they seed pinchable. Ling Feng was taken aback but couldn’t help but retort, "I said, can you even drive? Did you buy your license or what?"
"I was driving normally and didn’t even touch you. What gives you the right to say that?" the girl asked icily.
"Normal driving? You look like you were about to take off! This is a rural road, why are you driving so fast?" Ling Feng snapped back.
The girl glanced at him, "It is just that you’re driving too slow, you unsophisticated country bumpkin!"
Although her eyes were hidden behind sunglasses, Ling Feng could tell from her facial expression that she had rolled her eyes.
Before he could respond, the girl rolled up her window and stepped on the gas. The car roared and sped away in an instant!
Ling Feng watched helplessly; there was no way his little trike could catch up with her. He decided it was just his bad luck for the day.
Mounting the trike again, he continued along the road, with the county city not far ahead.
But only ten minutes later, he saw a red sedan in the ditch by the side of the road!
"Haha, that’s what you get for showing off, now you’ve got your couppance!"
Ling Feng burst into laughter as he approached and realized it was indeed the sa car he’d encountered earlier!
At that mont, the car’s front end was buried in the dirt, and white smoke was billowing from the engine compartnt, making him wonder how the girl with the sunglasses had managed to drive off the road!
Ling Feng initially wanted to ignore it, but he felt that the woman’s life was at stake and couldn’t bring himself to leave her helpless, so he stopped his trike and went up to the door to pull it open.
