Chapter 15: Chapter 15

As the sun just peeked out, Ling Feng had already taken off in his tricycle, hauling thirty pheasants to the city.

For him, making money was the top priority these days; selling this batch today and catching another forty or so pheasants in the next couple of days would total up the money Li Yui needed.

He had just arrived in the county when his phone suddenly rang—with an unfamiliar number on the screen, he answered and asked, "Who is it?"

"Brother, it’s , Old Fu!"

As soon as he heard it was that fatso, Ling Feng got irritated and asked coldly, "What’s up?"

"Have you delivered today’s pheasants yet? I’m waiting for you in the market!" Old Fu asked.

Ling Feng cracked a slight smile: "Sorry, but I didn’t go up the mountain to catch any today, so no."

"What? But you promised yesterday. Aren’t you playing ?"

Ling Feng chuckled, "Promised? I don’t seem to rember that. Jeez, my mory is really bad, lucky I didn’t sign a contract with you, otherwise, it would be even more troubleso. I’ll contact you once I catch so pheasants next ti, that’s that!"

He hung up and then burst out laughing, "That’s for trying to cheat , kid. Now you’ve fallen into the pit yourself!"

After arriving in the county, the tricycle didn’t head for the market but went straight to the backyard of Junlin Grand Hotel.

Soone in the kitchen, already at work, imdiately ca out and asked, "What are you doing?"

"Delivery, I had an arrangent with Boss Mo yesterday!" Ling Feng said with full confidence, loudly.

The person dressed in chef’s attire hurried over: "Are you Ling Feng?"

"How about it, you know ?" asked Ling Feng.

The chef shook his head: "Not really, but Boss Mo ordered that you must be well received when you arrive. Are these pheasants on the cart for today?"

Ling Feng was sowhat surprised. Why had Mo Jiaolan suddenly placed such importance on him?

He had no idea that during last night’s banquet, the guests at all thirty tables couldn’t stop praising the pheasant stewed with mushrooms!

So even approached Mo Jiaolan, asking if she had hired a new chef because the pheasant tasted so exceptionally delicious.

Mo Jiaolan was quite proud and told everyone that it was a new batch of live pheasants the restaurant had acquired, and if they wanted to taste them, the restaurant would continue to supply them the next day!

Consequently, many people started to make reservations on the spot, planning to bring their families and friends to try it out as well.

This buzz from last night led to this morning’s scene.

The kitchen staff began to distribute the pheasants into various cages, and as Ling Feng watched, he couldn’t help but ask, "Boss Mo isn’t here today?"

"She was supposed to co, but I don’t know why she’s not here yet. Don’t worry, you won’t be shortchanged!" said the chef who was receiving him.

Ling Feng smiled and said nothing; money was a minor matter, his main interest was to see Mo Jiaolan again—you can never get enough of a beauty.

As they were busy, a furious shout ca from the entrance of the courtyard, "Good for you, you tricked . You caught the pheasants but delivered them here!"

Ling Feng turned around to see Old Fu, fuming with rage and his face as red as a beet!

Unexpectedly, the fatty was quite sneaky; Ling Feng wondered whether he had discerned sothing from their recent phone call and managed to find this place.

Seeing Old Fu’s angry face, Ling Feng asked with a smile, "What about it if I delivered here? We haven’t even settled our scores!"

"What score to settle with ? You agreed to deliver to

first, why are you such a backstabber?" Old Fu said, furious.

"Keep my word with you? You buy pheasants from

for one hundred fifty and sell them here for a clean two hundred per bird—do you think I’m an idiot, to continue supplying you?" Ling Feng asked with a sneer.

Old Fu was taken aback and stamred, "You...how did you know that!"

"Nonsense, if I didn’t know, I would have been conned by you again today. You better get ready to compensate Boss Mo for the loss!" Ling Feng said coldly, smirking.

"You dare to play ? Do you think I, surnad Fu, am easy to bully?" Old Fu’s face was as red as a monkey’s butt—whether from excitent or embarrassnt of being caught in his sches, it was hard to tell.

Ling Feng couldn’t be bothered with him. Seeing that the pheasants had been taken away, he asked the chef, "We settle the bill upstairs, right?"

"Yes, please follow ."

The chef didn’t care about their argunt and turned to enter the door.

Ling Feng followed, but then Old Fu reached out and grabbed his arm, "You can’t go!"

"Why not?"

"You promised to supply , but you breached the contract, you have to compensate for my loss!"

Ling Feng was stunned, then laughed, "Did I sign a contract with you? What evidence do you have that I breached it?"

Old Fu shook his head, "No, but if you still want to get by in this town, you’d better not piss

off!"

"I’ll fucking beat you up!"

Ling Feng glared, and just as he was about to throw a punch, Old Fu got so frightened that he shrank back and quickly let go.

Seeing him act so cowardly, Ling Feng looked at him with contempt, turned, and walked through the door.

Going upstairs to the finance office, the chef was explaining the situation to the accountant, "Thirty pheasants, all alive, Mo Jiaolan had ntioned it before."

"I know, where’s the delivery guy?" a young girl with glasses asked.

"Here, I’m here!" Ling Feng quickly entered.

As their gazes t, both were montarily stunned!

"It’s you!"

Ling Feng and the girl exclaid in unison.

The girl’s na was Lan Fei, and she was Ling Feng’s high school classmate. Back in school, they had even shared a vague romance.

But then Ling Feng’s father passed away, so he dropped out and went ho, and they had not seen each other since.

"Long ti no see!" Ling Feng said happily.

Lan Fei too was sowhat surprised and nodded, "Yeah, it’s been five or six years, right? I didn’t expect to run into you here."

"So you know each other, then have a chat first, I’ve still got lots to do in the kitchen." The chef said a word and then left.

Ling Feng looked at Lan Fei, and rembering the tis they had secretly passed notes and shared their innermost feelings, his heart fluttered, and he asked with a smile, "Are you doing well?"

"Not bad, and you?" Lan Fei asked.

Her expression was calm, not as surprised as Ling Feng. After the initial astonishnt, she acted as if she was eting a casual friend.

Ling Feng knew at a glance that after several years apart, she must have t many new people and had long forgotten about him.

So he just smiled, "Also not bad."

Lan Fei uttered an "oh," then looked down at the accounts in her hand, "You delivered thirty pheasants today, at a purchase price of four hundred each, I should pay you twelve thousand yuan."

Ling Feng was taken aback, "Four hundred?"

"Yeah, didn’t the kitchen staff tell you?" Lan Fei looked up at him.

"No, they probably forgot." Ling Feng smiled.

He hadn’t expected this windfall. Mo Jiaolan had agreed to three hundred fifty yesterday, and today they had raised it by fifty yuan, amazing!

Lan Fei took out a stack of bundled banknotes, then counted out two thousand, and handed them to Ling Feng, "Just sign a receipt."

"Sure!"

After signing his na, Ling Feng pocketed the money and looked at Lan Fei, "How about we have a al together when you’re free?"

"Sure, we can call so of our old classmates and have a good ti together," Lan Fei nodded.

"Great."

Ling Feng smiled, but his heart felt a twinge of bitterness. Lan Fei’s attitude made it clear; he wanted to rekindle sothing from their past, but she was not interested.
