The two mages who had entered with the recently killed one were staring at his severed head in shock, they didn't move an inch from where they stood.

Despite both being at the peak of the Tier 4 Mage Realm, they recognized that the fallen mage, was a high Tier 5, and had been the strongest among them and was therefore allowed to lead by their master.

But his head had been severed with a single swipe, leaving them puzzled and uncertain about whether to advance or retreat—either option seed fraught with peril.

If they retreated, their master would surely punish them; advancing seed to promise only certain death, especially when they saw the fierce determination in Alec's eyes.
