"You know why I didn’t choose her."

"She is weak."

"And, you forgot the main point. I wasn’t aware of her." A lie, my minions have spread into all the areas where the poor lived, and Sheva was apparently poor as well. She ca to this city to abandon her old life, find herself a new thing to do, and maybe, forget of the horrors she saw on the battlefield.

Though, sad for her. It would seem that she struggled to adapt to her new life. One can always leave the battlefield, but one’s mind never does.

She might have joined it out of hunger, but she would regret her choice forever until the end. She would keep thinking of the dead, the dying, and the pitiful who had looked into her eyes before leaving this world.

The departed who gave up their life for their country.

"She is still weak," Max said, before picking up the broken sniper that Sheva had built before. He had taken it out of her room. "But she is a good tinkerer." A sniper made out of bicycle parts, which sohow was able to handle the explosive force of a homade sniper bullet.

"Give her the good stuff and who knows?" I suggested, making Max consider it for a while. "No need. She would only give up her life for nothing." With those words, Max went back to his room, where a rat was waiting for him. "Take this." He put the vial on the back of the rat where a small strap was present.

And after making sure that the vial was properly on its back, the rat with so intelligence, strutted away. Then ca the silence.

"The nas?"

"Yes, the nas." With his job completed, it was my ti to reciprocate. As Max had succeeded in doing his challenge, it was ti to reward him. He probably waited till last until his mind was clear of other things.

Others here ant Sheva, a woman who seed to be seeking death.

"There were two, one a noble dwarf and the other an even nobler human with elf heritage. I believe you can ascertain who I am speaking about?"

As I said those words, the sun was already on the horizon, and the centipede that carried my will left Max’s ears and then fell to the ground before dying.

Of course, a bit of blood also dripped from Max’s ears, but he didn’t care. His mind was focused on the content of the information I just gave him.

Not much to fools or regular people who don’t care about the world besides their own survival. But to Max, who had believed himself to be a proper assassin, he knew of the most influential figure in this city.

Among those, there was a noble couple of ancient heritage, whose marriage was a huge thing a few decades ago. One was a Dwarf Knight, the other was a human woman with elven blood in her veins.

Recently there was talk of the couple having triplets after years of struggle siring children. So their na was in the mouths of commoners for a while. Specifically middle-aged won.

"Yazmod and Aimar Sltver." The Sltver family were traders by occupation and were used to doing charity for the poor, driven by their desire to gain goodwill from the poor so as to appease the gods which didn’t let them have any babies till now.

Which is why when I spoke of their nas, Max was a bit confused at first. Not believing a word that I said. Though, knowing him, he might just go out this morning and confirm if my words held true or not.

And he would have done it, if not for his broken arm.

******

"Stop, civilians can’t approach this place." The dwarf threatened the human woman that ca to where Max had an interesting fight before. "Get out before we apprehend you for suspicious activities."

"There is no need for any extre thods to scare . I am here as an advisor to the detective. To give him so human perspective that is." With a kind smile, she showed her papers to the man, who after reading them for a bit, sent the other officer deeper into the zone to confirm.

"So you know the humans were involved in this fight?" The dwarf asked, in an attempt to waste away the ti until the confirmation ca. "Then do you know who the victims were?"

"A total of three Dwarf Knights and two humans."

"Seems like you do know what happened here."

When the confirmation ca and the woman was allowed inside, a detective was waiting and overseeing the work of investigators that were taking the feet sizes of the criminals. Which surprised the woman a bit.

"Oh, Miss Fahna, Sorry for calling you on such short notice, and I am also mortified about what happened to your father."

"Detective Salverez, it’s a pleasure to et you too," Fahna replied, showing that she had no desire to talk about her father, nor did Detective Salverez push for it.

And being a detective, he already knew what to say and what not depending on the person he was talking to, a man who knew his place. "I noticed you were curious about this thod of investigation."

"Yes, that’s why I ca to this city. Even though I had a good teacher in my youth, it’s always better to never stop learning." Fahna replied in a jovial mood while looking at the blood that was sectioned off on the streets with so blood. "Please teach where I am lacking."

It was the beginning of a new great relationship between two parties, one a detective with an illustrious past, the other an assassin turned private detective, from a powerful family.

Both were unaware of how this small eting would change their life forever. As the threads of fate have started to move the silent city of Bothal was going to experience an upheaval of the kind that no one might expect.

Of course, none of it has anything to do with .

I am here for one purpose alone. Which I will speak about in the coming future. For now, how about we go to the lovey-dovey family of a dwarf and a human woman?

Yazmod, a kind businessman who was famous for building bathhouses for the commoners, and his wife Aimar, who was famous for opening multiple cheap hospitals where won get 50% discount on all the services.

Both highly regarded and beloved in the community, a couple that was blessed by the goods after their kind deeds and finally sired their own child.

Or so the world thought.

"Three this ti? And no new volunteers were captured?" Yazmod crushed the bamboo slip from which he just obtained the information. ’This can’t be happening.’

Things haven’t gone well for the past few months for him, and all of that started with the riot where one of his proxy gangs was destroyed by an angry mob.

However, this was to happen when one does that kind of work in the open. It was why he adopted a more stealthy approach when collecting the volunteers, but even that doesn’t seem to be working.

It was almost as if he was cursed. And if not for his wife’s confirmation each ti, he would have truly believed the curse as a fact.

"Darling, they are finally asleep..." Aimar who ca to the office turned silent seeing her short husband’s tired expression. "Did things not go well?"

"You shouldn’t involve yourself in this anymore. I don’t wish for the taint to spread to you as well."

"I have said it before Yazmod, there is no taint. You are not cursed and neither will I. Just co with , I believe seeing our kids might brighten your mood today."

"Their voices are enough, I heard their laughter before their sleep, so I am fine. I don’t wish to disturb them when they have finally fallen into the dream world."

"Then just co with , I am not that sleepy."

After years of struggle and hard work, the couple has finally achieved serendipity, they have obtained what they desired the most with the sacrifice of so unknowns. Which in their eyes was worth it.

And in their mind, none of it was wrong. They were forced to this level by the gods. Gods who never gave them the fruit of their struggles. A god that never cared for them. So they took matters into their own hands and produced the results that would shake a nation.

But there was no need to speak a word of it, they would take this truth to their grave.

Along with their kids that were born of a big sin. Kids who were dreaming about the happy nightmares of my making.

*Uwaaa."

With the cry, the parents that were turning lovey dovey suddenly smiled with a tired expression, before moving to their kids’ room with hand in hand.

"Guess, the kids really want to see their father before they sleep."
