After last night’s drinking and so contemplation, Max went back to his normal self. Hiding in the public, which was hard considering he was one of the rare humans among dwarven cities, he searched for his new prey.

Stopping didn’t make sense as he didn’t earn much from yesterday’s little outing. aning he had to do sothing if he planned to maintain his intake of supplents that were slowly helping him forge a new and stronger body.

Which was hard to co by in this city. But he had to do everything for his goal. He is going to make everyone pay for their heinous actions against his daughter. All of them deserved death.

Though, for so reason or what an instinct, Max’s eyes darted around the crowd, looking for the dwarf who used to own that apartnt. Was it out of anger at the injustice of all those who suffered in that place?

Or was Max’s own way of searching for so aning in his life?

Max didn’t know, neither did I. However, this is what being human is all about.

So no matter how much he tried, he would start looking for that figure among the crowd of dwarves. ’Focus, I can’t get distracted.’ He said to himself, before finally finding a rich Dwarven woman who was followed by an entourage of guards. ’Dangerous.’ He said to himself, before ignoring her and then focusing on the vehicle from which she just exited.

It was a wonderful four-wheeler vehicle, each of its parts was carefully crafted, specifically the insignia that identified it as the product of Logan Works.

Now, that fetched a lot of money.

Logan was a renowned company building luxury cars for the rich, so to maintain their prestige, they were used to carefully design their insignia depending on the owner that had bought the car.

aning each insignia was a kind of identity token for the owner and hence, depending on the owner and the company, it had always fetched a good price.

So he left his clothes behind, and his body slowly took the color of the wall he stood next to. Adopting the lizard skin and turning invisible for a while.

This was not a night where he could take advantage of darkness. Neither was this place filled with humans, which would have made it easier for him to blend in. This was a bright morning and Max needed money.

So he moved before the valet ca and took the car away for parking. When considering the hotel where the woman went was owned by the Broomhild family, it would an total suicide if he had followed the car to the parking, as there was no exit if he tried sothing so stupid.

So he moved in a cluster, his skin turning into the sa color as the brimstone on his back, his eyes turning transparent, making him almost blind.

But knowing the general location and sensing the living through their vitality, while sensing the dead through the vibrations the bottom of his feet felt, he soon reached the position.

None of these guards were Knights, for knights would never stoop so low to protect the car. Hence, it was easy to fool the eyes of these n, and then using a glass-like dagger that had been with him for a long ti, he removed the insignia and then before anyone could notice, he disappeared.

"Ho, it seems like you are getting better with ti, I don’t know how you did it, but this will easily fetch a million Rubi." Rubi is the national currency of Pulgasari and although weaker than a single Dirium of Cynark Kingdom, with the exchange rate of 12 Rubi to 1 Dirium.

This exchange rate once used to be as big as 400 to 1 Dirium. Which went to show how much stronger the economy of Pulgasiri had turned after the arrival of their savior.

"Sold, take it," Max said, before the man who happily accepted the insignia asked. "By the way, do you know who you stole this from?"

"So rich woman?"

"You are correct there, but do you know how they got rich?" At such a question from the rchant, Max went silent for a while.

"I suggest you leave the city for a while if possible. Or go into hiding."

"Who was she?"

"The Krock’s."

"..."

Max left the market soon after pocketing his money.

No, he had planned to do it, but soon, he used all of that money to buy all kinds of supplents that would sustain him for the next 17 days.

Then he turned to one of his hiding places, a barn that had been abandoned after the pollution from the factories caused the animals and the families that lived here to suffer from illnesses.

The owner of the farm never backed down, he never sold this place to the factory so that they could expand their operations, instead, he just started living elsewhere, leaving the farm as a friendly reminder to always be good to your neighbors.

A kind of drama that I would have loved to be watching from the sidelines, sadly. I ca here too late. Busy with sothing more important.

So now, Max lives here. Eating and drinking supplents for breakfast and dinner. He stayed here, hidden from the world.

As for why he never left? It was for a simple reason, He didn’t know if I, the Jester, could follow him.

In his mind, I only t him through my rats and insects. The man didn’t even know I had kept watch over him for a while now.

It was also for this reason, he had prayed that no new job arrived in his lap. But as it happens, the reality is often disappointing.

The night ca when a rat appeared next to the window sill, from whose back a small centipede crawled down.

"You really couldn’t wait?" He said, before pointing his finger, letting the centipede slowly crawl over his hand then to his shoulder, before finally entering his ears.

"A new night, a new work. Instead, you should be happy, the more you kill the closer you are to finding the ones responsible for your daughter’s death." Sounded my voice, acting oblivious to the fact that I knew what he was doing all this ti.

"Hmm." A subtle reply before following. "Who is to suffer tonight?" He finally asked a proper question. My goal was never to kill and none of the people I chose have died as of yet.

As for those close to them, I am not that certain, I have given free rein to Max to do whatever he wants with them. But I always ask him to leave the targets alone, only bring in their pieces of flesh, blood, and hair to , and then keep it in the vial that the rat provides.

A feat that could have been done stealthily. But I preferred theatrics, the fear etched on the faces of the victims is always wonderful when matched with their blood and pieces of their body.

"You won’t believe this one. But our target today is a fisherman..."

"There are no seas or any giant rivers close by..." Max wanted to continue, before turning silent. He was fast and used to solving problems when under pressure, but he was never a bright boy even when he was young. However, there were monts of clarity when he caught on. "Who does he fish for?"

"Humans, young ones specifically." Hearing such words, a face appeared in Max’s mind, before he shook his head.

He didn’t wish for to know what he did during morning ti or how he might have co across the target already.

"Did anything co to your mind?"

"Give the location, I wish to end it early today." Max might have spoken in a calm voice, but I can easily read his mind. His simple mind was still flashing with the images of what he had seen in that room.

Though, tonight, I have to disappoint him sowhat.

"He is currently at the Textile district, my n have been keeping an eye on him." The man I spoke about was targeting the desperate factory workers, who were mostly humans in this case. As for what, Max might have so ideas, and he was not completely wrong about this.

Which was what I wanted.

But I have to say, no matter how simple this man is, I can feel that he has put his guard up against . The idea that I have been watching him also appeared in his head. Even the thought that this target was just used to test him.

However, I would have to disappoint this man.

Things were a bit different than he might have expected.

And as I said before, I was completely right. "Is that really the man?" He asked, and I nodded, which Max couldn’t see due to currently being an insect in his ear.

"Let give you a challenge, How about his right eye? Take it out without damaging it. It should be fun with this one."

"... He is a Knight."

"Which makes it all the more fun and challenging. So how about it?"

"Hah! This counts as two targets, the next one is mine."

"Sure if that is what you want, it’s what we agreed on anyway. I will even do you better and give you the location of your next target and his habits, it will be easier to plan an assassination."

"Then it’s settled." With those words, Max slowly moved toward his target. Unaware that soone had been eyeing this dwarf as well.
