"Can you see as a man?" The voice seed to echo into the early morning darkness, eventually swallowed by the commotion and activities of the other bodies sharing the sa courtyard.

"Can you see as a man?" Min asked once more, his hand on the little ger growing damp and sweaty.

He didn’t an to blurt it out the first ti, yet he still repeated the question a second ti. Midwife Lee’s last comnt had struck a cord in him. The ripples were still fluttering from the point of impact.

Min could verbally spar with most and dominate when it ca to mind gas with others. It ca quite easily to him. He was born with a smooth tongue. He was able to talk his way out of any situation as a child. It was what kept the abandoned child alive until Master Jian had found him.

Things had changed as he grew older, he was no longer all talk. Min now had training to back him up, but he was still among the most cunning of his brothers, and he used his skills to support them.

Yet, after all these years, he couldn’t speak straight around this ger. Midwife Lee always threw him for a loop. Had he sohow lost his charm after a year in Nanshan Estate?

Being a stationary bachelor didn’t seem to be a good thing.

Even in the dark, Min could see the annoyance on Lee Hua’s face. He really had lost his charm.

"If you’re not a man, what would you be? A cat? How could I see you as a cat? That makes no sense at all. I would at the very least see you as a..." The ger’s mind was moving faster than his lips, but still, he didn’t add the ’snake.’

Calling the other a snake could be considered an insult even if his master was of the snake clan. Brother Min was a good man, and he didn’t want to insult the other, he was just confused.

How could he see a man as anything other than a man? He should apologize.

"I’m sorry for my outburst, I have been acting out of character recently, I was raised much better than this." He was reacting too unrestrainedly. "You aren’t a cat. I can see that you are a man. There is clearly no mark on your forehead. You are a bachelor who should worry more about his marriage..."

Lee Hua froze as his apology poured out with a wave of remorse. His emotions were wound too tightly with everything he had on his mind, but, but...

This conversation didn’t sound right. Now that he cald down, it didn’t sound right at all. Weren’t they talking about Xiao An and Xiao Momo’s future marriages?

Wasn’t he thinking about his inevitable punishnt for trying to climb a master’s bed?

"Oh... you an... like..." The dots were turning into a line right before Min’s eyes. The calm ger turned into a nervous ger, then a frustrated ger, and now a flustered ger.

His face burning in the darkness. Lee Hua didn’t realize it seed to be a confession...? Or was he understanding the other man wrong?

"Xiao Momo will marry Brother Min."

The two adults looked down at the bun in Min’s right hand. The sa bun who was now staring at them without a trace of sleep in his eyes.

"Xiao Momo will marry Brother Min." He repeated to make sure the adults heard him. "You don’t need to worry about who will marry Brother Min."

The small ger, ahem, the bun, looked up at the man carrying him. "Brother Min doesn’t mind a ger bride, right?"

Min looked toward the midwife beside him before nodding intentionally as their eyes locked. But the little ger wasn’t done yet. He was more glib of tongue than both adults.

"Brother Min also feeds Momo more than all the other big brothers. Xiao Momo will marry Brother Min."

...

"You little... little..." Midwife Lee didn’t even know what to throw at this little ger. How had his personality changed so much in two months? Was his son always like this?

"Little Momo." Xiao Momo helped his dad find his words. "My nickna is now Xiao Momo!"

"Heheh," The snickering was coming from below. Xiao An was laughing at him! This poor widowed dad was being bullied by his children!

Midwife Lee was shocked and still flustered from his confession. This wasn’t the first confession he had received. Before the ’incident,’ he was quite popular, a ger with a stable and respected job—a career even.

His children would also be able to follow in his footsteps if it wasn’t for his tarnished reputation. Maybe here in this area, they could carry on his skills as midwives...but the honey tongued Xiao Momo couldn’t marry Brother Min... that was too much.

"You can’t marry Brother Min." Midwife Lee finally answered back, still shocked by the recent events. His children were going to see him to the grave before he could even get them kicked out of Nanshan Estate.

He should stop worrying.

"Why not?" Xiao Momo asked truly curious. "Why can’t I marry Brother Min?"

The young ger pouted his face at first, before holding up his fingers in an upright manner to count off the reasons why he could marry Brother Min to his dad.

"Brother Min likes a ger as his wife—one. Brother Min thinks Xiao Momo is the cutest—two" At this Momo paused to get confirmation from the man in question.

Min nodded affirmatively. "Xiao Momo and Xiao An are the cutest."

"He-he-he," Xiao An giggled again, her grip on her dad’s leg fidgeting a bit at the praise. But the little ger wasn’t done yet. He got his confirmation, and it was ti to continue on bravely!

"Brother Min is very strong, so he can carry all the heavy things for Momo easily—three. Brother Min likes the flowers Xiao Momo pulls for him—four. Brother Min says he likes a ger who can cook. Xiao Momo picks the sweetest purple berries for dad and Xiao An—five."

Was picking berries in the wild considered cooking? According to Xiao Momo, this topic wasn’t up for debate. He was a budding chef.
