The air between Xu Zeng and Xu Hu Zhe crackled with tension, the weight of unspoken words hanging heavy between them like a shroud. Xu Zeng was already on his feet, his expression remained stoic, a mask of calm indifference barely covering the shock he felt.
Xu Hu Zhe watched him intently, his own emotions swirling in a tempest of confusion and frustration. His mind had been raced with a mountain of thoughts, each one vying for dominance as he struggled to make sense of the situation unraveling before him.
But before he could articulate his thoughts, Xu Zeng spoke and completely pushed his thoughts and feelings to the side. He’d decided for them both, decided to leave just like he’d decided their fates only a few monts ago.
Xu Zeng heard a lot of words and wanted to address them all, but it felt like the words were punching him in the gut all the sa.
After a little quirk of his lips, he repeated his old trick, lifting his fingers to answer the stupid snake’s queries one by one.
"One, Xu Feng and I are both orphans as far as we know. Who sired us? I don’t know, he doesn’t know, and neither did my ’dad’—I have Xu Feng’s mories before he ca to Nanshan and he has mine, so I’m sure of what I’m about to say."
"Xu Feng lived a better life than you or I before coming here, but in the end, he lost all of his adoptive family and was alone once again. Xu Feng didn’t see so great and huge potential in you. He saw soone who was kind and needed a family."
"He needed a family too, so he let you decide if you both would beco each other’s family." Xu Zeng looked down in sha at this, "He made a good decision, you’re a good man."
There was more he was supposed to answer, but Xu Zeng’s head felt like mush. He wanted to lash out at the man in front of him, but that wouldn’t help anyone.
He picked the most important points to him, almost wanting to drum it into Xu Hu Zhe’s head.
"Two, I WAS the one who started all of this. We could have just been friends, maybe even family," After going through number one, he realized Xu Feng had probably worked hard to build a family for them, but he’d just ruined it in a period of a few moon phases.
Xu Zeng felt completely ashad. Yes, he was a demon beast, but if he let his impulses control him would he still be Xu Zeng?
Who was he anyway? A poor neglected village ger who was overworked or a reclusive in a zombie apocalypse who couldn’t connect with a dead world?
He hadn’t seen or done very much outside of those two very drastic paths of life. How did he even know if he had feelings for Xu Hu Zhe? And then he went and ruined the family Xu Feng had carefully created.
Xu Zeng bit his lip, he really felt ashad. The fire he felt had simred all the way down. He was tepid at most now.
Tepid and ashad.
"I’ll take ti in Sun Village to reflect on myself," He had to raise his other hand as Xu Hu Zhe opened his mouth to interrupt yet again. "I’ll be back. I’m not leaving for good. I can’t bear to be away from the cubs,"
’Or you,’ was left unsaid, but the look in his eyes, the one he tried so hard to hide was clear for Xu Hu Zhe to see.
This was the man he’d been watching almost nonstop for two months. A man who was purposefully sharing his everything unrestrainedly.
Young love was sothing else.
This wasn’t quite puppy love, but it had several of its building blocks with a healthy or unhealthy dose of demon beast impulse and sexual curiosity built in.
"Three," At this one, Xu Zeng felt a bit indignant, like Xu Hu Zhe was an idiot snake for real, no jest this ti. He’d already showed him his mole and everything and even showed him he could work hard even as a ger.
Xu Zeng had unknowingly seen him as a potential partner from the beginning, and was always showing his best sides. His best sides as a mate...
"I’m not a man. Well, I am, but I’m a ger too!" He couldn’t help but raise his voice a bit at the end. For so reason it felt like he was being dismissed by the other man because of his sex.
First he wasn’t a good kisser, and now this!
Was he only attracted to him if he was a ger? Why? Because he wanted to sire Xu Zeng’s children?
He couldn’t even if Xu Zeng let him ride to his heart’s content. Xu Feng was just very discerning with his eye to find a dragon as a mate. And here he was begging a garden snake to be his partner.
A half breed snake likely wouldn’t be able to get him pregnant even after a lifeti of trying. Maybe if they worked to raise Xu Hu Zhe’s bloodline in a higher realm, but Xu Zeng didn’t have much knowledge in his inheritance on this.
"Either way, whether you could ride or not, doesn’t an you could get pregnant, and I’m too young to want children. Da Long and Xiao Long will be my loves for a long ti."
Xu Zeng, the big and tall man looked at Xu Hu Zhe like a young maiden guarding herself from a pervert.
Xu Hu Zhe’s lips began to quiver. Were they still having the sa conversation? This was clearly a man. A tall man at that, just as tall as him.
Xu Zeng couldn’t carry as much as he could, but the man was hardworking. And his hunting skills were crazy, the way he used vines to attack prey made Xu Hu Zhe’s spine shake like a leaf.
He could admit though that Xu Zeng’s hunting prowess was attractive. The things that made him ’manly’ were very appealing to him.
Looking at the disbelief in Xu Hu Zhe’s face, Xu Zeng put his hands down, his eyes narrowing into slits. "You don’t believe ? Xu Feng can switch too!"
