The scene was enveloped in fog and haze, shrouding everything in an eerie ambiguousness. Sounds ca and went like whispers in the mist, and the air was almost unreal.

It felt as though Xu Feng had been transported to another world...again. He couldn’t quite grasp the reality of the situation. Had he managed to transmigrate again?

Wasn’t transmigration supposed to be a rare occurrence? Like a one in a billion chance?

It should be harder to transmigrate than to win a lottery. Yet sohow, he apparently did it twice?

In the murky backdrop, a conversation floated in and out of his awareness, barely audible and difficult to untangle.

"A new bride?"

Murmurs followed, but their words eluded Xu Feng, their voices too distant to be clearly heard.

"It was a hasty marriage?"

Again, more indistinct responses.

"He should be a used ger, pregnant before the marriage..."

The voices grew louder, and a series of crashing sounds pierced through the fog.

Xu Feng felt like the dream was a confusing puzzle, slowly coming together but never quite forming a complete picture.

Just as he began to grasp a bit of understanding, the dream shifted, taking him in a different direction.

Darkness and absolute silence.

The silence enveloped Xu Feng, a heavy quiet that seed to press against his eardrums.

All that remained was a persistent buzzing in his head, similar to the static of an old television or the comforting white noise so people used to help them sleep. It was peaceful yet equally unsettling.

Eyes, similar to his own, locked onto his gaze.

With the eye contact, the background seed to lighten and co alive. Almost like a lifeline was thrown into the darkness to fish Xu Feng out.

These brown phoenix eyes held a different essence, not the usual mischievous twinkle but an unmistakable sense of excitent. They glistened in the center of a stunning yet barren landscape.

The feelings that washed over Xu Feng were a blend of sadness and joy.

Sadness coursed through him, mourning the desolation of the once-abundant land.

Once abundant? The thought flittered through Xu Feng’s consciousness just as quickly as it popped up. Making itself known briefly before being drowned out.

But an underlying happiness emanated from Xu Feng’s smile...or was it Xu Zeng’s smile?

It was a face much like his own, bearing the sa ethereal silver hair that stared back at him in the bronze mirror of his room in the Nanshan estate. Yet, an inexplicable difference set them apart.

But if things weren’t moving so slowly for him, he could easily confuse the person in front of him for himself. They were identical in all other aspects.

With a gentle wave, the boy with a familiar face greeted Xu Feng. The wave appeared to move in slow motion, almost disorienting.

He tried to speak, but the words that ca out were unintelligible, similar to the earlier mumbles. It was piercing through the static and it was oddly unsettling, as if Xu Feng was not ant to hear them.

Drawing closer, the other boy’s movent triggered a rapid fading of the new light and the scenery threatened to disintegrate before Xu Feng’s eyes.

The boy halted but the diminishing light continued to fade. His face conveyed a sense of sadness, and he swiftly pointed at the ring on his own finger. Then he pointed to the one now on Xu Feng’s hand.

He had been keeping it on his body since his wedding day like a good luck charm that could keep him safe. Safe in this new world and new marriage, and now his rapidly transforming relationships with both snakes.

He hadn’t gotten himself into anything he couldn’t recover from yet, so it must be working...

As Xu Feng’s eyes fluttered open, he found himself in the familiar space of his bedroom at Nanshan estate. The familiar ceiling was the first sight that greeted him.

However, his finger continued to burn with a distinct sensation. It was the sa finger, wrapped around the ring that he had inherited from the original owner of this body.

’Xu Zeng’

The na replayed in his head on repeat for a few loops, his mind otherwise blank.

’Did I have a brush with death?’

As Xu Feng gently stroked the ring on his finger, his thoughts swirled around the mystery of the ring. Was it possible that the original owner’s spirit lingered within the jewelry, or had he truly experienced another brush with death?

His musings were abruptly interrupted by the searing pain that constricted his throat. The sensation was similar to swallowing hot coals, a harsh and burning tornt that gnawed at him.

It was like he’d rubbed his throat raw from the inside out.

Reaching out with great effort, he groped for the small table by his bedside. Typically, either Si or San would prepare so water or tea and leave it there for him to quench his thirst.

With a series of rustling sounds, he eventually located the well placed cup, but his actions had not gone unnoticed. The movents and noises from the bedding notified the people outside of the room to his newly awakened state.

"Master Feng?" a tentative voice ca from the doorway.

"Is Master still sleeping?" inquired another voice with an air of innocence and uncertainty.

An unmistakably sassy voice chid in, "How would I know? I’ll check... Master Feng?"

"I’m..." Xu Feng tried to respond, but his voice erged as little more than a croak. Fortunately, the sharp ears of the San caught the words buried behind his hoarse words.

It appeared that Xu Feng was suffering from a sore throat...again. It seed to be a condition that plagued him more frequently than normal.

But then again, he seed to also have more near death experiences than most people.

"Master Feng!" San’s voice carried a tone of excitent, mirroring the joy of the younger girl.

"Master Feng!"

San didn’t waste any ti in the face of their master’s awakening. She took charge of the situation, giving quick orders to Si. "Don’t just stand there," she directed, "Get the sweet water and the dicine prescribed by the doctor!"

As Si hurried to carry out her instructions, San moved closer to the bedside. She had a damp cloth in hand, which she’d gathered from the nearby table, ready to provide care to her recovering master.
