Chapter 59: Chapter 58 Deliberation
After the conversation with Mr. Li had concluded,
he took the elevator back to the Clinic, then walked up the stairs back to the third floor bedroom,
Yi Chen maintained his composure throughout the whole process, even lightly patting Edmund on the shoulder, trying to share that sense of “peace”.
“Sleep well, sufficient rest will allow us to seize additional opportunities.”
“Hmm…”
Edmund, in the lower bunk, let out a long sigh and forcefully tapped his own head.
His ntal fortitude had also endured special training within his family,
by closing his eyes and ditating, he slowly pushed the fact that his body had been injected with the pathogen to the back of his mind, keeping his inner unrest and anger under control.
The night’s continued combat and the tense journey to the underground area gradually turned into waves of fatigue, and he closed his eyes and fell asleep.
However,
Yi Chen did not rush to sleep,
instead, he leaned out of his bed and carefully observed Edmund, who had fallen into sleep.
Suddenly, a strange event occurred,
the “moonlight” that originally was simply resting on the windowsill began to move like a living creature, actively covering Edmund… In the blink of an eye, his body transford into light particles, transmitting back to the “Surface”.
“It seems that ‘sleep’ and ‘moonlight’ are both key factors for switching between the inner and outer worlds.
Despite four of us sleeping in the bedroom, only I and Edmund… If all four of us were injected with the pathogen, it could also control us more stably to work for him.
Could it be he fears having too many of us might pose a threat to him with a possible desperate counterattack?
Despite possessing control over the Clinic’s Sa Space and having reached the Level of a “Severe Patient”, he lurks in the depths underground, acting cautiously, even timidly… like a rat, isn’t it?
If that’s the case, maybe this “weakness” can be exploited later on.”
During this analysis,
a wriggling movent occurred on Yi Chen’s shoulder,
a black lump of flesh strenuously squeezed out between his collar,
Little Grape’s mouth ford an extrely uncomfortable wavy shape, with remnants of foul-slling liquid at the corners.
“Phew phew phew! What kind of rat plague agent is this?
This stench is even worse than a rotten, maggot-infested boot I accidentally picked up in Cetery No. 6.
Absolutely disgusting.
Before the mission ends, you must give five… no, seven quality grapes to soothe my mouth.”
Indeed,
Little Grape was right at his shoulder,
when the nurse injected the pathogenic fluid into Yi Chen, Little Grape bit directly into the carotid artery, swallowing all the dicine that was supposed to spread throughout his body.
“No problem, as long as Mr. Li is eliminated, I can prepare a grape feast for you.”
“Oh! You really intend to kill that Pathological Gentleman.
The ‘Professional Characteristics’ he acquired through Gentleman’s Skin will also transform along with the illness, and his essence has reached ‘severe’. Killing such a type is not an easy task.
We must plan carefully, lest you end up killing yourself in the process.”
“Hmm.”
Because of the taste that had seeped into his brain for the first ti, Yi Chen wasn’t tired at all, even feeling a bit nostalgic for that taste and the peculiar sense of excitent.
Yi Chen got out of bed almost silently, stepping towards the window.
Suit changed,
leaning against the window,
he voluntarily bathed in the moonlight, feeling the special rays, with a slight smile on his lips.
“How interesting,
I didn’t expect the ‘Lost Secret dicine’ to draw out a Pathological Gentleman in hiding.
From what Mr. Li said, there definitely seems to be a latent issue with the Twilight Clinic affiliated with the organization, possibly even directly related to the past ‘False Moon Incident’.”
The whole affair was becoming more interesting.
Perhaps the mission was not just about recovering the secret dicine, the organization seed keen to lead us to investigate the situation here.”
Yi Chen thus leaned against the window, recalling and thinking about the interesting events of today, and gradually fell asleep.
The moonlight that had originally rested on him wrapped around his entire body like a thin film,
Disappeared without a trace.
[Day Two of the Mission]
The morning sun’s rays passed over the mountaintops and entered the dilapidated partitions of the clinic.
In the apprentice’s bedroom,
four people sat around Edmund’s bed, engaged in a highly divisive discussion.
Juliana was the team mber with the broadest knowledge and most comprehensive rational analysis.
During previous tasks, Edmund had always consulted her opinion on critical issues.
But now… she offered a markedly different suggestion.
“Abort the mission, imdiately head to the crossroads where the coachman is waiting, and, by exploiting the connections of your family, Edmund, try to contact [Doctor] to conduct a consultation on both of you.
Eliminate the pathogen from your body and seek a chance for survival.”
However,
Edmund appeared relaxed, perhaps coming to a resolution after a night’s rest.
“An intravenous injection, having had the whole night to spread throughout the body, it’s highly unlikely that even the existing dical procedures could clean it thoroughly, let alone the high risk involved.
For soone like William, who exhibits ‘Pathological Traits’, there might still be a chance.
As for my normal human body, even if I could get off the sickbed, I suspect I’d just end up being a useless, resource-draining burden confined within the family.”
“That’s still better than being dead! I don’t believe that a self-deprecating gentleman or a severely pathological living corpse will keep his word… Even if you hand over the items, he will definitely not let you leave!”
The reason Juliana seed so agitated,
was because she and Edmund had trained together in the sa facility since they were ten and had maintained a close relationship, even developing certain special feelings for each other.
At that mont,
Yi Chen suddenly interjected, saying aningfully:
“Whether he lets us leave or not doesn’t matter. We just need to get the [Antidote] to clear the not yet activated pathogens.”
Juliana imdiately understood the implication of Yi Chen’s words.
“Even if the four of us, at full capacity, team up, it’s not guaranteed that we can defeat a high-ranking ‘Severe Patient’ gentleman.
Let alone, how can you ensure that he will hand over a genuine antidote to you, it might even be possible that the so-called ‘antidote’ is just a lie he concocted.”
Yi Chen, however, denied her assumption, explaining patiently:
“Miss Anna, you were not present at the scene, otherwise you would have made a more accurate analysis.
Last night, the deal Edmund and I had was a [trade].
Mr. Lee’s ‘situation’ wasn’t so great, even miserable one might say, he can’t leave the clinic, and the pathogens he controls can’t leave either.
But he has an urgent need for ‘Moon Skin’, and that’s why he tested and arranged a eting with and Edmund.
He even seed slightly guilty, deliberately concealing the use of Moon Skin.
According to my estimation,
he should be able to obtain the essence energy of ‘Moon Transformation’ from the Skin Limbo, allowing him to reach a higher stage, escape the side effects of the secret dicine, and regain the long-desired [Freedom].
As long as we can collect all the ‘Moon Skin’ remaining in Viner City, the leverage is in our hands.
It would be quite easy to force him to deliver a qualified antidote.
Whether he lets us go afterwards is another matter.”
Just as Juliana was about to object,
Edmund imdiately spoke, “I agree with William’s viewpoint, this is the only and correct approach… also, I’d like to personally eliminate the self-deprecating gentleman.
Let’s go~ Head to the city to eradicate Moon Transformation individuals, gaining leverage.
Moreover, hunting Moon Transformation individuals would also enhance our understanding of the ‘Moon Transformation Disease’.”
At that mont,
Dagbert, who had been silently leaning against the wall, quickly stood up, lifting his giant sword and heading towards the door.
Juliana also bowed her head in acceptance of the plan,
and as she stood up, she sharply poked Edmund’s abdon with a finger gun, making him jump up in pain and bump his head on the upper bunk.
Clang!
“If you show signs of illness, I’ll chop off your head first.”
Edmund, clutching his now throbbing head, hurriedly nodded, “Don’t worry, nothing will happen, we will all make it back alive.”
