Chapter 167: Monster Rookie

Robin struggled desperately to steady his heart as he looked at Nelson.

He bit down on the tip of his tongue to suppress the killing intent that threatened to spill out.

Only after the tallic taste of blood spread through his mouth was he finally able to calm himself.

“Why are you here…….”

“Didn’t you hear the rumor? An order was issued to block anyone coming in from the Uncharted Area for the ti being.”

“You beca the Knight Commander.”

Nelson curled the corners of his lips as he looked at Robin, as if sothing amused him.

“Vice-Captain. It’s still a long way before I reach Captain.”

“I see.”

“Co to think of it, Senior Calimacos was a captain too, wasn’t he? A rcenary captain, that is.”

The sneer in his tone made it obvious to anyone listening that he was looking down on him.

Sigbard stepped beside Nelson and looked down at him.

“If you’re a knight, then handle the monsters…….”

“Sigbard, it’s fine.”

Sigbard had tried to argue in clear displeasure, but Robin imdiately stopped him.

There was nothing to gain from clashing with the Knight Order right now.

The encirclent of knights surrounding the Lich gradually tightened.

Before the Knight Order ard with Divine Power, even the Lich couldn’t exert its strength.

“It’s about to end.”

“Is it really alright for you to step in like this?”

“What do you an.”

“I’m asking whether it’s acceptable for you to cross into the Uncharted Area.”

Nelson turned his head toward the Lich.

“We can’t allow a Monster to cross into the city.”

“Then why didn’t you step in imdiately?”

“Technically, I’m not supposed to step outside the Empire.”

It seed he had exercised so flexibility.

The reinforcents from the Knight Order that he had so desperately wished for had arrived, yet Robin’s heart sank heavily.

“Gwoooaar!”

The Lich that had driven hundreds of Adventurers into retreat finally collapsed.

The outco was almost absurdly one-sided.

He had clearly witnessed just how sharp the blades of the Knight Order were.

“Thank you for saving us. I’ll be on my way.”

He gave a formal greeting and was about to turn away.

Then Nelson’s voice stopped him.

“Are you sure you can just leave like this?”

“What do you an.”

“This is the Uncharted Area.”

Nelson tapped the ground with the sole of his foot.

“In this place, you can escape Imperial law no matter what you do.”

“Stop speaking in circles and get to the point.”

“Don’t you want to kill ?”

At the blunt words, Robin nodded.

“When the ti cos, I’ll co for you.”

“Ha ha! I suspected as much, but I didn’t expect you to answer like that.”

Shing.

Nelson slowly drew his sword and aid it at Robin.

“The fact that Imperial law doesn’t apply here applies to

as well.”

“…Are you saying you’re going to cut

down.”

“If you say you’ll co to kill

later, why would I leave you alive?”

“Was this your plan from the beginning?”

The knights who had finished hunting the Lich approached while dealing with the Skeletons.

The Adventurers also ran over to bring Robin back.

An unsettling atmosphere ford.

Even so, no one had expected a knight to attack Robin.

Clang!

Robin raised both swords and blocked Nelson’s blade.

Blue Aura was halted by red Fighting Spirit.

The knights widened their eyes upon seeing Nelson’s Aura stopped.

“He blocked Aura?”

In the brief mont Nelson was slightly flustered, Robin retrieved his left-hand sword and thrust toward his neck.

Nelson ducked his upper body to evade and increased the power behind his blade.

After exchanging a brief clash, Robin retreated two steps.

“Caterpillar eyebrows! Attacking an innocent person—have you gone mad!”

“Caterpillar eyebrows……?”

As Sigbard lashed out in criticism, Nelson’s brows twitched.

“A knight has no right to oppress an Adventurer!”

“The law, you say. It seems you didn’t listen to , barbarian.”

“You speak of duty while knowing nothing of a knight’s responsibility!”

While Sigbard and Nelson exchanged several sharp words,

the Knight Order and the Adventurers faced each other.

Unintentionally, the perfect setup for a brawl had been ford.

“Are you going to continue.”

Robin glanced back and forth between the Adventurers gathered behind him and the Knight Order.

“The guards on the city walls will start looking this way soon.”

“Do you think I’d stop just because there are many watching eyes?”

“If you are a Vice-Captain who understands chivalry, you should. Were you perhaps ordered to eliminate ?”

“You’ve got so nerve.”

Nelson sheathed his sword and turned away.

Although the Lich had fallen, many Skeletons still remained nearby.

The Knight Order focused on cleaning up the remnants.

“Robin!”

Aelin ran over in a hurry, as if pressed for ti.

Her steps were light as she weaved between the Skeletons.

“Don’t worry. The Knight Order defeated the Lich.”

“That’s why I ca. Has it really disappeared?”

“There’s nothing particularly suspicious.”

“No. It hasn’t completely disappeared yet.”

At the ominous words, Robin fixed his gaze on where the Lich had been.

The Monster that had exuded a sinister aura was no longer there.

Just as he was about to tell her not to joke around—

Thump.

His heart throbbed painfully, and his breath caught in his throat.

“Are you oka…….”

Without even listening to Aelin finish, he moved his legs.

In an instant, he caught up to Nelson, who was walking toward the Knight Order.

“Do you have sothing left to say to .”

“Let

impose on you for a mont.”

“What……?”

KWA-BOOOOM!

A massive explosion erupted centered on the Lich’s corpse.

Even Nelson, who stood at a distance, staggered as the blast wind surged forward.

“Knight Order! How did you finish it off!”

“My apologies! I definitely poured Holy Water into its Heart……!”

While Nelson berated his subordinate,

beyond the aftershock, the Lump of Darkness Lich drifted through the air.

More precisely, it flew toward Robin.

Rushing forward at trendous speed, the Lich looked like a grim reaper coming to claim the dead.

Robin instantly unleashed his Fighting Spirit and slashed downward at it.

Shiiiiing!

Struck by the crisscrossing red lines, the Lump of Darkness faltered briefly.

But it did not lose its montum and continued toward Robin,

and Robin lightly pushed Nelson’s back from behind.

“You bastard……!”

Nelson hastily released Aura, but he was just a fraction too late.

“Ughhhhk!”

What Nelson collided with was not the Lich itself.

It was a spell activated upon the Lich’s death, originally aid at Robin but striking him instead by ill fortune.

Starting from his fingertips, his flesh began to rot, spreading up his arm and toward his torso.

“Kkeuuaaaargh!”

Though the Aura he belatedly unleashed blocked the corrosion, the Lich’s magic was tenacious.

Only after four or five subordinate knights rushed over was the spell activated by the Lich finally removed.

“C–cough! Cough!”

“Vice-Captain, are you all right!”

Once his plate armor was removed, Nelson’s body oozed as if he had suffered burns over his entire body.

In fact, his skin had stuck to the armor and tore away as it was stripped off.

His rotting, crumbling appearance did not look recoverable even as empty reassurance.

“Potion! Bring a potion to the Vice-Captain!”

Taking advantage of the chaos caused by the superior officer’s injury, Robin quietly left the scene.

Seeing Robin return unhard, Sigbard shouted.

“Robin defeated the Lich!”

“That’s not quite…….”

“He killed the Lich that even the knights couldn’t finish!”

What had just happened occurred in such a fleeting instant that few had seen it clearly.

Sigbard and Aelin had been the closest witnesses.

That was why the Adventurers felt uncertain, yet could not deny it outright.

“I see. The twin-sword Adventurer finished the Lich.”

“Daaamn! I knew he’d pull it off!”

“That young hero’s na is Robin. A Monster Rookie has appeared.”

Unlike the Knight Order, who were frantic tending to Nelson,

the Adventurers chanted Robin’s na even while eliminating the remaining Skeletons.

“Robin! Robin! Robin!”

“Robin, bane of the Undead!”

“The Dancing Twin Swords defeated the Lich!”

The Skeletons, which no longer resurrected, quickly dwindled.

They were manageable even by Silver-Ranked Adventurers, but the Knight Order’s contribution had been significant.

Even so, most of the credit ended up going to Robin.

“Alright! Alright, just head back to the city for now!”

The Adventurers who had witnessed the birth of a hero could not easily quell their excitent.

Only after shouting several tis did things finally settle down enough for them to enter Narvik.

“That swordsman defeated the Lich?”

“You saw it yourself and still can’t believe it? Everyone’s lifting that young man up.”

Even the guards watching from the city walls believed in Robin’s feat.

It was true that in that fleeting mont, Robin’s Fighting Spirit had stood out.

Nelson had drawn his Aura a beat too late.

In the end, rumors spread throughout Narvik that Robin had slain the Lich, and since it was impossible to correct every one of them, he let it be.

“Everyone worked hard.”

Sigbard, Aelin, and Serena were all unhard without any major injuries.

The four who returned to the inn let out quiet, sheepish laughs.

The relief of having survived was great, but more than anything, they had experienced an absurd amount of events.

“Now we’re all Silver Rank or higher.”

“We’ve shed the beginner look.”

“Good. Let’s keep going and earn Gold Rank next.”

Serena let out a long yawn and went upstairs first.

“This ti was really dangerous.”

“It was.”

“Still, it was worth it.”

Aelin took out her Silver Rank badge from her chest, showed it briefly, and followed Serena upstairs.

“Robin, aren’t you coming.”

“I need to settle the bill. I’ll talk with Humphrey, so go on ahead.”

“You must be tired too.”

“That’s what the team leader position is for.”

Sigbard did not press further and climbed the stairs.

Once his companions left, everyone on the first floor beca conscious of Robin.

Sohow, the rumors had spread before they even reached the inn, and it was filled with people wanting to speak with him.

“Humphrey, I’ll pay for a week’s lodging.”

“To think you would bring down a Lich. It is an honor to host soone so remarkable at our inn.”

“It wasn’t like that.”

He paid generously and did not take the change.

Since they received als for free, he gave it as a tip.

Margaret, standing beside them, greeted him with a bright smile and thanked him.

“You’ve beco remarkably skilled in just a few months.”

“I still have a long way to go. If I want to earn Gold Rank and head to the Demon Realm, there’s plenty left to do.”

“In my view, you’ll achieve it soon enough.”

Humphrey poured a glass of grape juice and offered it.

Robin did not refuse and downed it in one go.

“Ambition is good, but rest is important as well.”

“I was planning to rest for a while anyway.”

“Are you aware that the Adventurers who ca in this ti are under investigation?”

“I heard on the way here.”

Originally, the Knight Order had been blocking returns from the Uncharted Area to expel those suspected of being with The Hand of Liberation.

Robin had crossed that ironclad control by dragging the Lich over.

Though it had been an ergency, the guards recorded the identities of all Adventurers who passed through the gate.

“You’ve beco famous as a rising star, so it’s unlikely you’ll be frad for a cri, but it’s best to be cautious.”

“Frad for a cri?”

“Treason is a grave offense strictly punished by the Imperial Family. Even the slightest sign allows for coercive investigation.”

Robin’s current standing had grown too great to tamper with lightly.

He was the hero who had rallied and led Adventurers from the Dangerous Area,

but he was also an Adventurer who had forced his way past the Knight Order while they were performing official duties.

In other words, from the Knight Order’s perspective, he could not be viewed favorably.

“You will likely be subject to a personal investigation as well, Sir Robin.”

“That’s not exactly welco news.”

“Do not worry too much. It’s rely procedural.”

Humphrey refilled the empty glass with grape juice.

Robin lifted the glass, swirled it once, and looked at Humphrey.

“Humphrey, you seem to know everything.”

“When one becos an innkeeper, news reaches him whether he wishes it or not.”

“That’s convenient. Information gathers even if you stay still.”

“Speaking of which. Would you care to hear a story?”

After draining the second glass, Robin smiled and nodded.

“What is it? You’re making

curious.”

“It’s nothing special. Just sothing any swordsman would have heard at least once.”

“I won’t have to pay for the information, will I?”

Humphrey burst into hearty laughter.

“It’s about the swordsmanship tournant held in the capital.”

“The arena? If it’s the annual tournant in the capital, I know of it.”

“Of course. The important thing is the prize for the champion. Aren’t you curious?”

Humphrey lowered his voice and continued, and Robin listened without agitation.

It was rare and expensive, but not sothing particularly tempting.

“If you get the chance, you should participate. With your skill, Sir Robin, you could aim for victory.”

“I will. Thank you for the story.”

“Shall I bring dinner to your room this evening?”

“That’s alright. If I fall asleep now, I’ll be out until tomorrow.”

“Rest well.”

When he returned to the room, Sigbard was already fast asleep.

Robin mulled over what Humphrey had told him.

“If I have ti, it might be worth visiting.”

After showering, he changed into clean clothes.

As soon as he lay down on the soft bed, drowsiness ca over him as if he had been anesthetized.

The expedition had been as chaotic as a storm passing through.

The rest taken after returning safely tasted sweeter than honey.
