Chapter 207: Like Old Tis

Chin managed to get an inside information from her connection in the underworld that there would be a secret Underground Cage Fight Tournant soon, and her hunch told her that Leon was behind it. She had once seen him looking around for a possible location for what seed to be an underground fight club.

The Military had been able to confirm the validity of the intel through the reports of the spies planted in the underworld by the Secret Intelligence Agency. The spies had reported about the invitation to the opening night of the said tournant, received by various underworld factions.

Keira increased her training hours to perfect everything that she had learned so far, so she wouldn’t be a burden to the team. She would only get around four to five hours of sleep, but the thought of seeing Zach soon was the only thing she needed to sustain her energy and keep on working hard.

In one week ti, the special task force team which was assigned to locate and rescue Zach would be dispatched out of the country, in order to execute the plan they had formulated ever since they found a lead in their investigation. They were now only polishing the last steps needed for the execution of the plan.

They had been very careful in their preparation to avoid any suspicions from Mr. Big’s side, because one wrong move could jeopardize everything, and worse, it could put Zach’s life in danger, if he was indeed still alive and held hostage by Mr. Big.

After Keira’s morning training, she walked to the canteen to grab a quick lunch and was surprised to see so familiar faces walking towards her.

"What are you doing here, guys?" she said seeing May, Lana and Drey. Her whole face brightened.

"We’ve missed a lot because we were out of the country. Sorry, we haven’t been there for you and for coming to you so late, Keira..." Lana said as she hugged Keira. May also followed and hugged her.

Both Lana and May had been out of the country in the past few months so Drey was the only one from the group of friends who had been with Keira during those hard tis.

"What are you saying? Both of you have always been pestering

on the phone," she said, hugging them back. Her eyes welled up as she was so happy to see her best friends again.

"These girls will pester you like old tis again, Keira. I guess, they were not contented to pester you on the phone, so they will join you in your training..." Drey complained as he rubbed his temples.

Keira creased her forehead and gently pushed the two girls away from her and looked at Drey.

"Huh? What do you an, Drey?" Keira asked.

Drey exhaled and said, "I’m actually against it, so please convince them not to do it, because they have been treating

like a villain for discouraging them. They wanted to join the search and rescue operation for General Lim."

"What the heck, Drey? Don’t be a killjoy. We will be of great use. Lana is a great attorney and strategist, while I..." said May who suddenly had to pause to think about the kind of role that she could take, should she join the team.

"What, May? How would you help? Don’t tell

you will distract the enemies by putting poison in their food?" Drey said sarcastically as he gave May a dirty look.

May arched a brow as she retorted, "Well, why not? I can distract them with food... Give them poison to drink, including you!"

Keira laughed so hard, tears started to form in her eyes. She had really missed her best friends and watching them banter like old tis again had succeeded in giving her otherwise desolate heart a little bit of a tickle.

Drey paused at Keira’s laugh and was glad to see her spirits raised. He then whispered to May, "Alright, I will convince General Liu and the rest to allow you to join the team, as long as you can make Keira laugh like that again."

May crumpled her face and said, "What am I, a clown?"

Drey raised his brows and said, "Yes, precisely! You will be Keira’s clown. That’s the only way I will help you join the team." May no longer complained. As long as she could be of help, she did not mind whether she would be a clown for Keira or a chef for the group. Yes, she ended up studying culinary arts because of her love for food, and she had beco one of the best young Chefs in the country because of her diligence and great passion for food

Keira looked intently at Lana and May. She understood their intention and she couldn’t help but feeling touched. She always knew how lucky she was to have a group of amazing friends like them.

She then gave them a warm and gentle smile and said, "I really appreciate it, guys, but it would be a dangerous mission, and I won’t allow you to be in any kind of danger..."

May pouted her lips and protested, "What is this? Aren’t you just ditching us? I heard Thea will join too. So how co she’s allowed to join and we’re not? Is it because it’s okay to put her life in danger, unlike ours?"

Keira sighed and shook her head. She was about to say sothing but was interrupted by Lana, "Stop it, Keira. We have made up our minds, whether you like it or not. We are fully aware that it’s a dangerous undertaking and it’s not to be taken lightly, but if you think about it, there are dangers everywhere in our daily life too. For example, I could just be crossing the street later and got hit by a car. Did you know that distracted drivers are a major cause for traffic injuries and death? Injuries can happen anywhere, on the road, at work, at ho, even at the hospital! Did you know how many dical malpractice claims that I have to deal with at my work? So if it’s really our ti to die, then there’s nothing much we can do about it. Besides, could you guarantee that I would die from old age, and not from so kind of an incurable disease before I even hit thirty? Would you be able to shield

from that too? So don’t even try to push us away from this. This was our own decision. We want to be by your side, especially now during these tough tis."

Keira was rendered speechless by Lana’s words. She couldn’t think of any argunts for a retort. No wonder she was already making a na for herself at the legal world despite her young age. But how could this friend of hers say anything about her being hit by a car or having an incurable disease? Was she cursing herself?

Before she could say anything again, May had nodded in full agreent with what Lana had just said and seconded, "Yeah, Lana is right, Keira. There’s no use to talk us out of it. We are ready to train really hard this week. We won’t be a burden to anyone at all. Besides, it’s not like we are new to this... We’ve already learned everything that we needed to know at the Military Academy before. We just need to brush up on our skills again. Right, Drey?"

This ti Drey’s face lit up as he folded his arms and lifted his chin and said, "We’ll see, May. Enough talking because you and Lana need to get ready now. Ti is gold, there’s not even a second to waste. Chop-chop, off you go!"

"The hell with that attitude, Drey? Don’t be arrogant just because you’re ahead of us. I heard you haven’t even experienced a real battle yet, so basically this operation will also be the first ti you’ll be in action!" said May.

She was frowning but oh how she had missed bantering with her good friend.

But Lana suddenly interrupted them and said, "Oh, by the way, how’s your marriage life? Last ti I heard uncle Russo was really hoping for a second grandchild soon. Have you been working hard on it?"

Drey’s cheeks and ears suddenly turned crimson, that made May cackle hard with laughter. "Well, well, well, Lana, I think you’re totally spot on. It seems like he has indeed been working really hard on it. Who would have thought that you’d be the one in charge of multiplying the Russo clan, Drey?"
