Chapter 304: Battle of the Lords: Cedric’s Contingency
When a summon left the inner sanctuary of their Lord, it was just like leaving their realm for another which was entirely foreign to them.
Despite the fact that the other realms were saturated with mana, they did not absorb this mana as it was poisonous to them. Absorbing mana from a realm that was not their sanctuary would cause them to slowly wither and die.
But that was not all.
Despite the fact that Dominants were born in a realm like the Cradle, they had co to discover that the realm rejected the existence of summons. In fact, the only reason summons could stay in a realm that was not their sanctuary was because they were protected by the authority of their Lord.
As long as their Lord was around, they could exist in a foreign world without being rejected by its laws.
But if their Lord were to die, it would be like they had been cut off from their life support.
For this reason, the mont Cedric died, Athena could feel it instantly. Aside from the fact that the mana Cedric had been supplying to her was cut off, she suddenly felt this overwhelming urge to return to his inner sanctuary.
She turned to look in the direction where Cedric and his unit had been fighting. But rather than going to him, she quickly reached for a whisperscript that had been hanging around her neck.
Apparently, before this battle of the Lords began, Cedric had made contingency plans for the event of his death. He had given Athena a whisperscript and had instructed that if he died, she should call out for a cadet who went by the na Alicia.
And so, Athena, who had a core that was quarter-filled with Cedric’s mana, poured a bit of that energy into the crystal, then spoke in Kaldor.
"A-Alicia?"
Alicia, who was currently hunched over and recovering her breath not too far from the impaled Lord of Flas, looked down at her beeping whisperscript. She imdiately grabbed it and exhaustedly spoke into it.
"Who is this?"
"It’s Athena," the High Elf quickly replied. "I was instructed by my Lord Cedric to—"
She was still speaking when Alicia cut her off, arching a brow. "Wait—Cedric’s dead?"
"Yes."
Alicia straightened and imdiately looked around the chaotic battlefield. Her attribute gave her the ability to see things at various vantage points, and it didn’t take long for a small doll-like eye to appear in the air above Cedric’s mangled corpse.
"Gosh." When she saw just how brutally he had been slaughtered, with his spine ripped out and all, she almost threw up right there in the sand.
"I’ll take it from here," she assured Athena before letting her whisperscript hang loosely.
Then, she reached out a hand and the space around her arm distorted. Her arm disappeared, reappearing by Cedric’s corpse, after which she touched his arm and quickly activated her bonded ability.
Suddenly, the corpse beca invisible to the world as it was pulled into a mirror reality. Once that was done, the tattoo on Cedric’s arm dissolved into smoke, before manifesting into Aika, who crouched down and touched his corpse somberly.
"How long is it going to take?" Alicia, who was already exhausted, asked. Her full body had now appeared beside Aika and the corpse.
Without looking at her, Aika replied, "Not long."
Alicia nodded, then looked at the sky. It was slowly becoming dusk, which was good. Her bonded ability allowed her to change subtle things like the weather or the ti of day in the alternate layered reality she created. The cost she had to pay for the changes, however, was directly related to how vastly different the adjustnts were from the actual reality. Since dusk was already bleeding into the world, she just needed to push ti until it was past midnight.
’Okay, let’s do this,’ Alicia thought, consoling herself.
Her eyes suddenly rolled back until only the whites were visible. And then... the sun began to retreat faster, bringing darkness upon the shore, and a moon that illuminated the horizon.
A few tense seconds passed, and then her eyes rolled back to normal.
"It’s past midnight," she said, breathing hoarsely.
Aika didn’t waste ti and imdiately activated her bonded ability. In the next instant, black flas erupted from the ground, enveloping the corpse like a cocoon. They burned for a mont before finally dying out, revealing Cedric, who was now in perfect condition.
In the next few silent seconds that followed, Cedric’s blue eyes snapped open. He imdiately sat upright, then, without saying anything, he quickly looked around to regain his bearings.
He could see Aika, who crouched beside him; he could see Alicia, who stood behind her; and he could see the fighting, which was still happening several hundred ters around them.
But more importantly, when he looked to the side, not too far from where he sat, he could see Lee Lim, who had just finished killing Leon and was crouched over his corpse.
Turning away from the Lord, he looked at Aika, then asked, "Have you been able to find his weakness?"
She nodded, then replied blankly, "Yes."
Cedric exhaled in relief.
While he was battling the Lord and fighting for his life, Aika had been tasked with watching out for his weakness.
Thank goodness she had finally found it!
Cedric quickly pushed himself off the ground, then turned to her, expecting the reply.
Aika ntally gave the command, and all the screens that had been around Cedric before he died appeared around him again, including the one with the Lord’s profile.
When Cedric saw it, his eyes widened.
