Chapter 196
"ARGHHHH!"
Crack, crack, crack!
The sound of bones cracking and reforming at a crazy rate echoed through the room. Jim was still bleeding, blood dripping down his mouth and nose, his hands tightly clenched as if his life depended on it.
But still, he tried his best to fight back, calming himself and forcing his eyes to stay open as he stared at the ceiling.
’Why is this taking so long? My own evolution didn’t take this much ti to complete, so why is his dragging out like this?’ Max wondered inwardly. He was crouched down in front of the hunter, staring at him nervously.
"UGHHHH..." Jim cried out again, still going through hell inwardly. His mind was on the verge of shattering, but Max’s earlier shout kept echoing in his head, anchoring him to reality.
And finally, after about six minutes of brutal screaming and dancing on the edge of death, Jim’s cries began to fade. The pale color of his skin slowly shifted back to normal, as though blood was being pumped back into his veins.
His white eyes gradually returned to their normal hue, and his breathing grew sharp yet steady. His tensed muscles loosened up, his body falling still as Max watched anxiously.
’Di... did it work? Is he... is he now a...’
Tring!
[Ritual is successful]
[Human: Jim has been successfully turned.]
[Calculating class...]
’He did it?! He... he’s no longer human!’ Max exclaid inwardly, eyes wide as he stared at the glowing system screens hovering in front of him. He turned his gaze back to Jim, who lay unconscious with his eyes shut, breathing normally again.
Taking a closer look, Max noticed sothing different. Shimring black scales now patterned parts of Jim’s skin, faintly visible under the dim light. His hands had transford into a pair of pitch-black claws, sharp and feral.
The scales weren’t entirely visible — they could easily be hidden beneath clothing but those claws were an obvious giveaway. The dragon decided to ignore it for now.
Even Jim’s body had changed. He looked leaner and more defined than before, his once frail build replaced by a sturdier, muscular fra. The difference was undeniable.
Turning back to the system screen, Max’s eyes scanned the words.
[Class: Drakes.]
’Huh? Drakes? What kind of class is that?’ Max rubbed his temples, confused.
[Drakes: A type of loyal race that would do anything to please the Dragon Lord. They are a strong race with only one purpose — to protect the Dragon Lord and fulfill his will. An extrely loyal race that answers only to the Dragon Lord.
Have only one possible evolution path.]
’Huh? Loyal type?! But Jim was already loyal before the transformation, right? Does that an the intention one has before the ritual affects the outco?’ Max thought as he stared at the glowing text, then shook his head.
’No need to think about that now. Let’s see what his draconic ability is.’
He tried to search for it, but there was none.
’Huh? There’s no ability? What is this? I thought he would gain one after his transformation. Pix, any explanation?!’ Max asked, his brows furrowing deeply.
"I don’t know," Pix replied with a casual shrug. "But I think this is his base-level form, just like when you were still a dragon vessel. When you evolved, you gained your fla ability. So our best bet is to wait until he evolves too."
"Well, at least the evolution was successful, and I’ve gained a strong, loyal ally with th..."
Tring!
[One mber added to family pool.]
[Host needs to na family.]
[What would host like to call his family?]
’Huh? What would I like to call my family?’ Max thought, stroking his chin as he stared at the blinking screen.
"Damn it! I don’t even know what to call it yet. This is all too sudden, and nothing’s coming to mind right now." Max mumbled, his brows creased as he stared at the floating text in deep thought.
"How about... The Red Wings Family?" he muttered after a pause, watching as the na filled itself into the box.
[Are you sure you want to use this na?]
’Or should I use The Ashborn Family instead?’ he thought, still uncertain.
"How about you use sothing that actually explains how you feel?" Pix suggested, sounding intrigued.
"How I feel, huh?" Max mumbled, glancing down at his hands in thought. ’When I got my powers, I felt weird at first, but as ti went on, I learned to accept it. I even gave myself a quest — to conquer won endlessly. I wanted to be a conqueror... a conqueror, huh?’
He leaned back slightly, eyes glinting faintly. ’Conquerors are usually on the dark path. The demons are after us, dragons and so many evil things are currently unfolding with right at the center.’
"The Crimson Wings," Max mumbled finally.
"Why Crimson Wings? I thought you’d go with your gang’s na," Pix asked. "The Crimson Scales."
"I plan to keep the two separate. The gang life is different from my family life. I can’t mix them together. Maybe later in the future, they might intertwine, but for now, I’m treating them as two completely different things," Max replied calmly. "Besides, the nas aren’t that different. I just tweaked it a bit."
[Are you sure you want to use this na?]
[Yes / No]
"Yes," Max muttered, and instantly, the system screen flashed with a congratulatory ssage.
[Family na chosen: The Crimson Wings.]
"Okay, that’s that," Max said quietly as he stood from the floor. He walked over to Jim’s unconscious body, scooped the newly turned dragon in his arms, and gently laid him on the bed.
After making sure Jim was comfortable, Max sat down on a nearby chair, resting his elbows on his knees and interlocking his fingers in front of his face.
"When he wakes up, it’ll be ti to test his full capabilities," he muttered to himself.
Tring!
’Huh?!’ Max blinked in confusion.
[Rewards for successfully turning a human and creating a family will now be calculated and distributed to host.]
"Huh?!" Max exclaid in surprise, eyes widening as the golden screen brightened before him.
