"Good morning, Godmother."

Sam looked at her.

Celeste gracefully moved to Sam's side, her steps as elegant and unhurried as her deanor.

She smiled, looking in the direction Sam had been gazing.

"This morning would be better if a certain little thief hadn't sneaked into our house in the middle of the night."

Sam was montarily speechless, then he smiled wryly.

"I ca back too late last night. I didn't expect to disturb you, Godmother. I'm sorry."

Celeste shook her head with a smile, then turned to look at Sam.

"What bothers isn't that. It's that you didn't co back with Angel."

Of course, she had to say that.

Sam felt he was starting to understand this woman's tactics.

First, she would make you lower your guard, then she would strike right at your guilty conscience.

Sam nodded without hesitation and said softly, "A few of us classmates drank too much, so I took soone ho first and then ca straight here."

Half-truths always worked best with this woman.

Sure enough, a hint of suspicion flashed in Celeste's eyes.

But she quickly returned to normal.

"Really? You weren't off doing sothing else with another woman?"

Sam smiled, looking harmless.

"I took soone ho, and I told Angel beforehand."

Celeste's gaze finally shifted away, no longer pressing that invisible weight on him.

"Do you rember what you promised ?"

Sam, of course, knew.

He smiled.

"Of course I rember. It's just not the right ti yet."

Celeste sighed softly.

"I don't mind waiting. Just don't stray from the right path."

"The right path?"

Sam didn't understand what she ant.

Celeste turned to look at him, her gaze direct and serious, more like advice or a reminder.

"No matter what, I'm still Angel's mother. While I hope for so changes in her, I don't want them achieved through deceit. When she was young... I used to educate her in ways I thought were for her own good. I constantly taught her the harsh realities of the adult world because I believed her situation was different from other children. I thought early exposure would benefit her."

Her eyes dimd.

"But now I realize, during her growth, I couldn't play the villain and tell her I loved her at the sa ti."

Sam said softly.

"People are complicated, and family relationships aren't simple."

Celeste shook her head with a smile.

"Indeed, they're not simple. But I can't deny that her current state is my responsibility. So, I hope... you will genuinely be good to her and not deceive her. If she ultimately can't forgive or trust , at least you should be the one she trusts the most."

Sam understood her aning.

He knew that human nature was inherently complex and hypocritical.

Despite his wariness and concerns about Celeste, he didn't dislike her.

Not because of her beauty, elegance, or charm.

But simply because, up to now, all her precautions and asures were out of a mother's protection for her daughter.

And she wasn't the typical mother with deep-seated prejudices.

That alone was comndable.

"I understand. Don't worry about that. I want Angel to be happy too."

Celeste smiled at him.

"Can you truly make her happy, Sam?"

It felt like a final choice before the end.

But there were no options presented to Sam. He looked into her eyes.

"I don't know how to define true happiness. I can only believe that the future I want will be happy. No matter what, I promise I will marry Angel and make her my wife."

"I hope so, Sam. I hope you keep your promise. Whatever you do, don't hide it from Angel. Let her decide. As long as she accepts you, I won't stop you."

Sam wanted to respond.

But footsteps approached from behind.

"What are you two talking about? Aren't you hungry?"

Angel's slightly cold voice appeared, her suspicious gaze shifting between them.

Celeste smiled without speaking, and Sam turned with a smile.

"We were just chatting, waiting for you to join us."

Angel sneered.

"Waiting for ? You two seed to be having a good ti. Why don't you go to the church together? I'll skip it."

Celeste shook her head with a smile.

"How about we eat first?"

Sam's suggestion was accepted, and soon they were sitting at a table eating, with Selena joining them.

Selena looked like she had played a lot of gas last night, her eyes still puffy from lack of sleep.

She mumbled as she ate.

"Do we really have to go to the church? I'm so tired."

Celeste smiled.

"It won't take long. We'll be back soon."

Angel glanced at Selena.

"If you threw away your ga console, you wouldn't be so tired."

"Huh? Ah... I was just kidding, sis, don't..."

"A ga console?"

Celeste looked over curiously.

Angel said nonchalantly, "Sam bought it for her as a New Year's gift."

"Oh? Did he get you a New Year's gift too?"

Celeste asked, and Sam had a bad feeling.

Angel nodded matter-of-factly.

"Yes, two, actually."

"Hmm? So, does that an I, as the Godmother, didn't get one?"

Celeste looked at Sam with a half-smile, but her aning was clear.

If Sam hadn't prepared anything, it would be a serious misstep.

Even if he didn't want to, he had no choice now.

Sam sighed and pulled out a delicate wooden comb from his canvas bag.

"What's this?"

Angel squinted.

Celeste said with a hint of annoyance, "Can't you see? It's a comb. So, this is how much I an to you, Sam?"

Angel chuckled.

"His gifts aren't ordinary."

"Not ordinary? How so? The material?"

Clearly, Celeste wasn't aware of certain supernatural elents, and Sam couldn't exactly tell her that her daughter had superpowers, and not just one!

He could only smile wryly.

"There's nothing particularly special about it. Just use it for a few days. It should keep your hair smooth and non-greasy all day. It will also improve your overall well-being."

Hearing this, Celeste took the comb, looked at it, then at Sam.

"Sam, have you been watching too many inforcials?"

Angel interjected.

"Just keep it. I promise, Sam isn't lying."

Celeste thought for a mont, feeling an urge to comb her hair imdiately.

But the ti and effort required to style her hair made her hesitate.

She decided.

"I'll try it tomorrow."

"What are you talking about?"

Selena blinked, not understanding.

Angel looked at her.

"Nothing, just discussing giving your ga console away."

"What?! No way! Sam gave it to ; you can't give it away!"

The table erupted in laughter.

Unlike Celeste's attire, Selena wore a cute little dress, while Angel wore a coat over a black dress.

As the four of them got into the car, Sam noticed Elowen, who was driving, wearing the black gloves he had given her.

Celeste asked.

"Why are you wearing gloves today?"

Sam thought Elowen would answer truthfully, given her straightforward nature.

But Elowen replied, "I think it makes things cleaner."

So, she could lie too, and it sounded just as natural.

Celeste nodded.

"Not bad, they suit you."

Sam glanced at the girl beside him.

Angel sat quietly, as usual, showing no signs of rembering last night's events.

Sam thought for a mont and reached out, gently holding Angel's hand.

Feeling his warmth, Angel looked up at him.

She didn't pull away or resist.

Sam smiled.

"Your hand is a bit cold."

Angel smiled slightly.

"Is Sophie's hand this cold too?"

"...cough cough."

Sam almost choked.

Damn!

She rembered everything but didn't react?

What was she planning?

Hearing Sam cough, Celeste turned around.

"What's wrong, Sam? Are you sick?"

"Ah... no, just choked on saliva."

"Oh? Was it Angel's saliva?"

"What are you talking about?"

Selena turned curiously.

"Sam, why would you choke on my sister's saliva?"

Sam almost laughed.

Angel, blushing slightly, glared at Selena.

"Hand over your ga console when we get back, got it?"

"What?! No, I won't talk anymore..."

The car filled with laughter again.
