The war with Southern Yue has highlighted our backwardness in equipnt and facilities, resulting in massive enhancents in personnel training and improvents, accompanied by large-scale upgrades of various light and heavy machinery and equipnt.

Given this, Ling Chengyan has a small idea, which is that they, as the special operations team of a large region, will be given special attention. Soon, they may be equipped with advanced individual weapons, along with supporting land and air equipnt. Maybe, she could even learn to fly and beco one of the first special ops soldiers with a flying license.

After finishing the draft, Wang Liansheng noticed it was already past midnight.

This was only a draft; he still needed to transcribe it once more. He felt a bit thirsty and wanted to drink so water, stretch his legs, and then co back to continue copying.

The room had been quiet all along; he assud his wife was already asleep. However, when he turned around, he saw her leaning against the headboard, engrossed in her book "Aircraft Power Devices," with one hand sketching sothing on the quilt.

Wang Liansheng paused for a mont before shaking his head with a chuckle, gingerly pouring two cups of water, and bringing one to his wife.

Not wanting to disturb her, he intended to discreetly place the cup on the bedside cabinet, but just as he reached over, she looked at him, "Finished writing?"

Wang Liansheng grinned, "Yes, but I still need to transcribe it. It’s quite late; why don’t you drink so water and go to sleep."

Ling Chengyan murmured in agreent, taking the cup and focusing again on her book.

Wang Liansheng felt a pang in his heart, thinking that if only his wife could have continued studying, she might have achieved sothing great in academia.

Regrettably, he could only sigh: Born at the wrong ti.

Ling Chengyan wasn’t aware of Wang Liansheng’s sentints, and even if she was, it wouldn’t matter.

It was the forr owner of the body who couldn’t attend school, not her.

As for whether it’s the right or wrong ti, who can say?

It’s said that in turbulent tis, human life is worthless; better to be a peaceful pet than a person in chaos.

But there’s also the saying that heroes are forged in tis of upheaval.

Every ti there’s chaos, heroes erge everywhere; that’s an indisputable fact.

Ling Chengyan finished a section, glanced at Wang Liansheng still imrsed in transcribing his manuscript, and quietly lay down to sleep.

The next morning, as usual, Ling Chengyan woke up early.

As she opened her eyes, she reached out to the empty space beside her. Wang Liansheng had risen early as well; influenced by her, he also started to wake up every morning, jog around the courtyard, then either buy or make breakfast.

As Ling Chengyan dressed, she thought about her husband. It was uncommon for n in Great Qi or now to cook and do house chores, but Wang Liansheng diligently took care of the household without complaint—she was undeniably touched.

Having a good man like him is worth cherishing.

After a week-long field training, the team was given a day to rest. Ling Chengyan visited the base, checked on each squad to ensure all was well, and then leisurely bicycled to the West Gate Market.

Liu San and Gouzi were busy in the shop, alongside four or five other staff bustling about.

Ling Chengyan parked her bicycle outside, waved her hands as she entered, seeing several custors holding large woven bags, pointing at piles of goods and shouting loudly for sets.

"Bring ten sets."

"Bring fifteen sets!"

Ling Chengyan walked past heaps of won’s spring clothes, arriving at the accessory section, and asked about a scarf she picked: "How much for this scarf?"

A nearby clerk, while packing goods for a custor, replied without looking up, "Twenty."

anwhile, she continued to compute for a wholesale client, "Thirty pieces of various colors, eight each, total two hundred forty..."

Ling Chengyan said, "I’m buying wholesale too."

The clerk glanced at her and pursed her lips, "Minimum twenty pieces."

Then, without waiting for Ling Chengyan’s response, she resud handling goods for the wholesale custor.

Ling Chengyan smiled, shook her head, stopped wasting ti with the clerk, and went straight through the shop to the backyard.

Liu San and Gouzi were overseeing unloading at the back, with four or five people transporting goods to the warehouse, busy and bustling.

Ling Chengyan noticed Zhou Guoqing seemingly helping with the unloading too. She hesitated slightly, but chose not to intervene.

Calling Liu San’s na, both Liu San and Gouzi hurried over to greet her.

"Sister Ling, how do you have ti to co by?"

"I’m on a break." Ling Chengyan gestured for Gouzi to stay and check the goods while Liu San showed her around.

"Weren’t we supposed to open on March 16th? Why are we already selling?" Ling Chengyan asked.

"The goods arrived, people ca to collect them, and our staff are ready, so we started selling... We call it trial operation."

Liu San showed Ling Chengyan around the place inside and out, then brought her to the office to sit down. He wanted to make tea, but the kettle was empty. Embarrassed, he offered a canned drink to her instead.

"Can Master Zhou manage the workload?" Ling Chengyan asked.

Liu San chuckled wryly, "Master Zhou can’t stay idle; he keeps finding work to do. Today we received small items; the bags weigh at most twenty pounds. Since he wanted to help, I didn’t stop him. We never let him handle the big loads; rest assured, we all know to take care of his injury."

Understanding Zhou Guoqing’s stubbornness, Ling Chengyan knew he might feel his job here was too easy, urging him to work harder. That’s his ’spirit,’ which is why she didn’t rush to intervene.

Since Liu San seed aware, Ling Chengyan decided to leave it be.

After inspecting the store, she inquired about goods supply and delivery status, then gave Liu San a list, "Prepare these for , I’ll have soone pick them up this afternoon; handle the account with them."

"Hey, Sister Ling, you don’t have many won soldiers, why order so many scarves and bags?"

Ling Chengyan took a sip of her drink, looked at Liu San with a smile, "Precisely because there are no female comrades, I’m preparing for a social event to help the guys address personal matters."

Upon hearing this, Liu San leaned closer with a flattering smile, "Sister Ling, you can’t just mind your soldiers and ignore your brothers, right?"

His expression nearly implied: Look at , your brother is still single!

Ling Chengyan glanced at him with a teasing smile, "Didn’t you know many girls before? Why not keep one?"

Liu San stiffened, scratching his head, "Sister Ling... I wasn’t sensible back then!"

Over the years, he t so good girls, but his once restless heart never considered marriage, leading to missed connections.

Recalling it now, he inevitably felt regret, yet circumstances had long changed, and it was too late for regrets.
