The female teacher’s voice was hoarse, and she couldn’t teach anymore.

Upon sending her off, the company commander turned back and sternly ordered the militian, "Every platoon, every squad, appoint soone literate to lead the others in morizing the lyrics. Before tomorrow morning’s training, there will be a check. Anyone who hasn’t morized the lyrics won’t train."

With that, he left angrily, leaving behind a hundred or so crestfallen faces.

The few from Nanli Team exchanged glances, and Zhang Wanxiang whispered, "Qingyun is a middle school student, I heard him singing just now, and he was pretty good."

Jiang Shenglin imdiately laughed and said, "Then we’ll depend on Qingyun."

Wu Qingyun nodded and looked at Ling Chengyan, "Sister-in-law, I’ll copy the lyrics. Should I make a copy for you?"

Ling Chengyan smiled, "I know a few characters, I’ll copy them myself. You focus on those few... Tomorrow it’s up to you whether they pass the check."

Wu Qingyun smiled, nodded, and went to the dormitory to get a pen and notebook.

Zhang Yuyan and Li Huaihua ca over, wanting Ling Chengyan to teach them the lyrics. Neither of them had ever attended school or could read, and Ling Chengyan readily agreed.

Back in the dormitory, Ling Chengyan taught the two how to morize the lyrics. It was really not easy for them since they couldn’t read.

Ling Chengyan chose simple characters to teach them, teaching one character per sentence, and once they recognized a character, they’d rember the sentence. Zhang Yuqin and Li Huaihua tried it out, and surprisingly, it worked well. After reciting it several tis, they managed to get through it, albeit with so stumbles.

Early the next morning, Ling Chengyan went to the training field to warm up with so exercises. Unexpectedly, the four people from Nanli Village were also there, all practicing singing and morizing lyrics.

Ling Chengyan listened quietly for a while and found that Wu Qingyun and Wang Lianqi were doing okay, but Jiang Shenglin and Zhang Wanxiang were missing a lot; they still had a long way to go.

She quietly called Wang Lianqi over and explained the one-word-per-sentence thod to him. Wang Lianqi imdiately went over to practice one-on-one with Wu Qingyun.

When the militian gathered for the check, the company commander checked their morization of the lyrics. Platoon 2, Squad 5 (which included three female militian) turned out to be the only squad that all passed, which earned comndation from the commander and attention from the entire company.

"Squad 5 is so impressive, how about we applaud and invite Squad 5 to sing for us?" The platoon 1 leader, sowhat envious, jumped in to stir things up.

Wang Lianqi, the platoon 2 leader, instinctively wanted to refuse, but the company commander cheerfully accepted, "Squad 5 did a great job morizing the lyrics, and you’re not convinced, right? Then let Squad 5 perform one to impress you all!"

Turning around, the company commander asked, "Squad 5, are you confident?"

Ling Chengyan, without any hesitation and with crisp decisiveness, said, "Confident! Squad 5 guarantees to complete the task!"

"Great, let’s applaud and welco the comrades of Squad 5 to perform for everyone," the company commander led the clapping, forcing Wang Lianqi to join in as well. In no ti, everyone in the company except those in Squad 5 cheered enthusiastically, clapping their hands.

Wu Qingyun remained composed, but Jiang Shenglin and Zhang Wanxiang were a bit nervous, and the faces of the two female militian, Zhang Yuyan and Li Huaihua, turned red with tension.

Ling Chengyan looked at them with a calm and steady voice that wasn’t loud, "Did everyone morize the lyrics?"

"morized!" they all answered in unison. Their responses made them visibly more assured.

Indeed, they had morized the lyrics, so what was there to fear about singing?

Ling Chengyan pointed to Zhang Wanxiang, "Zhang Wanxiang, you lead. Rember, your voice should be loud, resonant, and imposing. Let’s show them that Squad 5 not only morized the lyrics but can also sing well."

Zhang Wanxiang, although initially hesitant when his na was called, felt a surge of confidence fill his chest. He straightened, lifted his head, and answered loudly, "Yes, we guarantee to complete the task!"

"We are all sharpshooters... One, two, go!" Zhang Wanxiang emulated the female teacher and sang the opening line, his voice genuinely loud and powerful, making the nearby company commander and platoon leader rub their ears.

The platoon 1 leader muttered quietly, "What’s this guy yelling so loudly for..."

Regardless of his murmurs, the Squad 5 mbers all sang in unison. Every single one of them kept up, and not only did the four male militian sing loudly and vigorously, but the three female militian, upon opening their mouths, also shed their shyness and worries and joined in loudly.

Although Wang Lianqi wasn’t standing with Squad 5, he sang along too. He was a bit off-key at tis, but his voice was undoubtedly loud and clear!

Once the song concluded, the entire company went silent montarily. Platoon 2 took the lead in clapping enthusiastically, followed by the other two platoons.

The company commander glanced at the shady-faced leaders of platoon 1 and 3 and snorted, "Platoon 1 and 3, no training for now. morize the lyrics. If you still haven’t morized them after breakfast, you’re exempt from today’s subject training as well."

Thus, platoon 2, thanks to Squad 5, trained as scheduled.

After training, platoon 2 leaders approached Ling Chengyan to inquire about tricks for morizing lyrics. They knew that Zhang Wanxiang, Jiang Shenglin, and the two female militian couldn’t read, yet the four managed to morize the lyrics. There had to be a trick to it.

Ling Chengyan didn’t keep it a secret. She shared the thod of having literate people lead those who couldn’t read, using one character as an anchor for each sentence. The squad leaders treasured this advice and went back to try it out, and sure enough, it worked. By associating a sentence with a character, the sentence beca anchored, and seeing the character triggered the mory of the sentence, making morization much easier.

During breakfast, platoon 2 folks seed almost possessed, all muttering their lyrics as they read from small pieces of paper. The other two platoons were unconcerned until after breakfast when they gathered again. The company commander checked once more, and to everyone’s surprise, most of platoon 2 had morized the lyrics now. Though so still stamred through, they could generally keep up, not lagging as much. In stark contrast, less than half of those in platoon 1 and 3, who spent the morning morizing, managed full lyrics morization.

The company commander wore an expression black as coal and waved a hand, having platoon 1 and 3 watch as platoon 2 trained.

That morning, the company’s training involved familiarizing themselves with weapon structures and assembly/disassembly; in the afternoon, there was live ammunition shooting practice.

Finally getting to handle the weapons, Ling Chengyan couldn’t help but feel excited.

The structure of a rifle wasn’t complex, and Ling Chengyan was the first to complete the disassembly and assembly, becoming one of the fastest and best learners.

Wang Lianqi and Jiang Shenglin were seasoned militian who had trained countless tis; Wang Lianqi had even served in the military for three years. Among the three, Ling Chengyan took first place.

Several other veteran militian from platoon 2 ca to challenge her, and Ling Chengyan remained in first place.

"Great, Sister Yan is the best!" Zhang Wanxiang cheered loudly.

"Sister Yan is the best!" Wu Qingyun, a bit slow to react, also cheered. The crowd watching joined in the applause.

"Have you practiced with a rifle before?" Suddenly, a voice sounded from outside the crowd.
