Gaoxi Village, Dawan Group

"Mother-in-law, you must help us this ti, we have no other options.... Don’t need to lend much, just ten or eight yuan will do."

"Once my son becos a worker this ti, I’ll make sure he repays you with interest."

Gao Qianyu’s mother, Miao Cuihua, put on a pleading face and held Madam Su.

Madam Su looked honest and simple, but her face showed difficulty at these words, "Didn’t you just borrow recently? Why borrow again?"

Miao Cuihua rolled a massive eye behind Madam Su’s back, and when she turned back around, her smile was as bright as a chrysanthemum.

She enthusiastically explained, "Didn’t my son just get himself a girlfriend? The expenses are a bit high...."

Madam Su murmured, "Gao’s girlfriend might as well be made of gold, being so valuable."

Miao Cuihua pretended not to hear and continued, "I heard Su Xiaoi got her wages, so...."

"Your news is really tily, my sister just got paid this morning, and you already know by the afternoon."

Madam Su shot a small barb back at her, even the most honest person wouldn’t have fond feelings for soone who’s like a leech, always trying to suck your blood.

Miao Cuihua replied with a grin, "Our two families are the closest, helping each other is only right."

"Moreover, our delicate daughter married your Su Li and isn’t afraid of hardship, following him abroad to suffer, isn’t it right to slightly take care of her maternal family? If she hadn’t left, I wouldn’t be without a daughter to care for ."

At this, Madam Su softened her attitude.

Even though what Miao Cuihua said was unreasonable, she still had so regard for Gao Qianyu, simply because she was willing to go out and earn money with her son, she respected her a bit more.

After all, with this relationship, the ties between the two families couldn’t be severed, and if the Gao family truly bore a grudge, it would be the two children who would suffer.

Reluctantly, Madam Su said to Miao Cuihua, "Alright, I’ll give it to you when we have dinner at ho tonight."

After marrying their daughter into the Su Family, the Gao family of three rarely cooked at ho anymore and would often co over to the Su Family to eat and drink.

Later, for convenience, they almost moved in with the Su Family.

The Su Family put up with it for the sake of their son and daughter-in-law.

After all, it was just a few more mouths to feed. And they were the parents and siblings of their daughter-in-law, not to be neglected.

There were originally a few families in the village who favored sons over daughters, but seeing the situation between the Su Family and the Gao Family, they treated their daughters much better after returning ho.

The example was right in front of them; raising daughters well could be more useful than sons.

Seeing her goal achieved, Miao Cuihua wanted to say a few more flattering words, knowing well that complints cost nothing, and it wasn’t hard to say a few more.

Before she could continue, the postman’s bicycle bell accompanied by shouts ca from the village entrance, getting closer and closer.

"Aunt Su, there’s a letter for your family."

"It’s even mailed back from abroad...."

Ready to leave, Miao Cuihua was glued to the spot, craning her neck long, impatiently nudging Madam Su’s shoulder, eagerly urging, "Quickly open it and see, it must be from Qianyu and Su Li."

If it ca from abroad, it could only be the two of them, no one else.

Although Madam Su was also excited, she put the letter in her bosom and said, "I’ll open it for everyone to see together when the whole family is back tonight."

This ti, Miao Cuihua was unwilling, shouting, "What’s this, it’s my daughter’s part as well, why can’t we see it now."

Madam Su, already irritated by Miao Cuihua, retorted, "Then let your daughter send you a letter herself, this one is for ."

Madam Su left without waiting to see what kind of face her mother-in-law made.

Miao Cuihua was choked by the response, indignant, she spat on the ground angrily, coldly snorting, "What’s so great about that? Your son is wrapped around my daughter’s little finger after all."

Thinking this made her feel better, she swayed her waist, grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds from her pocket, and leisurely walked away.

Holding the letter and returning ho, Madam Su also had her considerations; she was always worried, feeling sothing bad might have happened.

Before leaving ho, they had an agreent.

Every Sunday at ten in the morning, Ah Lee would call the city’s relatives’ telephone, let it ring three tis then hang up, as a sign of safety.

If the ringing continued for a long ti, it ant sothing urgent happened and needed to be answered.

If sothing really happened, the city relatives would inform them, and if no news ca, it was a good sign of safety.

Recently, they hadn’t heard any news from their relatives, so why was there a letter now?

Now that the letter was received, it likely had been mailed out a month or two ago.

If sothing indeed had happened, there was now nothing they could do, the situation had long passed....

Madam Su’s worries persisted until the family gathered back together.

Once Old Sir Su, Brother Su, and Su Xiaoi were all around the dinner table, Madam Su took out the letter.

"Boss, take a look at what’s written in your brother’s letter?"

Su Xiaoi exclaid excitedly, "Did Second Brother send a letter back?"

"Mom, don’t you know how to read, why didn’t you check it first?"

Madam Su placed a bowl of sweet potato rice in front of Su Xiaoi, saying, "You’re the one who talks too much."

Old Sir Su, being impatient, hurriedly urged beside them, "Boss, what did your brother say?"

Boss Su’s face grew darker and darker as he read, slamming his palm on the table with anger, "I knew Gao Qianyu wasn’t any good."

"I told him before, you can’t marry that type of woman, see, now he’s suffering the consequences."

Gao Xiaoi was also angry, asking, "Did she cheat?"

She too felt Gao Qianyu was too striking for their Su Family to handle, especially with an entire family who didn’t work.

But they couldn’t help their Second Brother, who was smitten....

Boss Su shot Su Xiaoi a harsh look, quickly explaining to the Su parents, "No, Second Brother didn’t say that."

"Second Brother just said he’s separated from Gao Qianyu now. Anyway, without a marriage certificate between them, they weren’t legally married, making separation easier."

"He’s being carefree, even wishing Gao Qianyu happiness in the future," Brother Su sarcastically remarked.

Su Xiaoi seed sowhat disbelieving, "Did Second Brother really say that?" Considering how deeply he loved Gao Qianyu, if there wasn’t an insurmountable issue, he wouldn’t do this.

But now they were separated by thousands of kiloters, with the Atlantic between them, even if they wanted to bring soone over to question, they couldn’t.

Old Sir Su took a drag of his pipe, suddenly saying, "It’s good they’re separated. As long as he’s happy."
