Chapter 729: Chapter 733: Fairy Tale Town (22)
Cinderella, when she was at ho, although she always liked to wear an old, dusty dress, also seed to evoke in people the image of her being a pitiful little creature oppressed in her own ho.
In fact, those who paid a bit more attention could tell that what she displayed was not the reality.
The hands of the one who supposedly did extensive chores were delicate and smooth as snow.
Not only that, but aside from her plain dress, her stepdaughter’s entire body, her skin, was carefully nurtured to be soft and delicate, and her face was smooth and rosy.
Otherwise, how could she have enchanted the Prince without even showing her face, winning him over with rely her captivating figure?
Among the upper echelons, there were many shrewd people. If Cinderella had any flaws, wouldn’t everyone see through them and still speculate that she was a distinguished Princess or noble lady?
All this to say, before becoming the Prince’s bride, Cinderella was indeed very well taken care of.
According to common belief, after Cinderella beca the Prince’s bride, her life could only get better.
Even if there might be distress after the happily ever after, that should have been sothing for much later.
But now, just a short half a month after becoming the Prince’s bride, she looked as if she had been drained of her vitality, becoming anxious and uneasy.
At this mont, she truly looked like a frightened creature, as if even the slightest noise could scare her.
Compared to before, she was now distressingly thin, with both eye sockets sunken in and deep, dark bags under her eyes.
Despite wearing luxurious clothes and adorning beautiful accessories, she looked incredibly disheveled.
Su Li was sowhat curious; in just a few days, he couldn’t fathom what she had gone through to be so ravaged.
Even the briefest love story should not end up like this.
After An and Su Li disembarked from the carriage, they saw Cinderella’s emaciated figure, and Cinderella also saw them.
At the large iron gate, other than Cinderella, who was already the Prince’s bride, standing alone, there was no one else.
Not a single guard was in sight, nor any personal maids.
It seed that Cinderella’s life as the Prince’s bride was even worse than they had imagined.
Cinderella craned her neck and stared fixedly behind An and Su Li for a long ti, and when no one else descended from the carriage, disappointnt flickered in her eyes.
Yet, in a mont, when she looked up, she still approached her once stepmother with the utmost enthusiasm.
When her forr stepdaughter held her hands tightly, An probably never imagined that one day she could be so amiable toward her.
An was all astonishnt, montarily unable to recover her senses.
Cinderella seed to have concerns, lowering her voice while she spoke, never relaxing the grip on her stepmother’s hand.
Su Li, following behind the two, could hear her clearly thanks to her acute hearing; a regular person might not have managed even from up close.
This proved just how soft Cinderella’s voice was kept.
“Mother, when you see the Prince later, could you tell him you missed and want to go back ho to stay for a while…?”
This was the first ti Su Li had heard Cinderella call An ‘mother’; she had always referred to her as stepmother.
Whether it was to remind An of her role, to remind herself not to forget, or to let those nearby understand… who knows.
But this ti… that term ‘mother’ was indeed a difficult one to bear.
“Don’t, you shouldn’t call mother,” An said, “After all, I am already separated from your father.”
After An spoke, Cinderella’s face showed a mortified expression, struggling to explain but not knowing where to begin, she looked extrely pitiable.
The cruel, cold-hearted vile forr stepmother was, however, unmoved and continued, “I’m just here at your father’s request to check on you; your father has paid for this.”
“You seem to be going through a tough ti….”
Facing soone she once detested, there were words Cinderella found hard to voice. Yet before her hesitation could reach her face, her eyes darted toward the direction of the Imperial Palace, betraying her urgency.
She could no longer care about pride or sha, grabbing the innkeeper’s hand, she pleaded, “Mother, I beg you, if you don’t do this, I think I…. I might die….”
Su Li had contemplated many possibilities.
For instance, after a brief love affair, the Prince might find soone new.
Or maybe Cinderella, a re rchant’s daughter, would find it extrely hard to adjust to life as a Princess in the Royal Family.
Another possibility… was that soone within the royal family did not respect her and she was feeling deeply wronged.
But she had never imagined it would escalate to a matter of life and death.
All those speculations, even if they ca true, would not change the fact that Cinderella’s title as the Princess was publicly acknowledged by the Prince himself. Even if she were neglected, her status as the Princess remained noble.
But now she was hearing from the other party about dying…. such a terrifying thing.
The innkeeper frowned, confused.
She reprimanded Cinderella sternly, “Don’t talk nonsense, you’re the Princess, how could you die….”
Cinderella beca frantic and her voice grew louder, “It’s true, I’m really going to die.”
“These past days, servants have been disappearing every single day….”
“I saw it, I saw her pointed teeth…..”
Cinderella was spouting nonsense in a flustered and unorganized manner, making it hard to grasp the aning of her words.
However, her look of fear was unmistakably genuine.
Quickly realizing her voice was too loud, she lowered it swiftly, tightening her grip and repeatedly said, “Mother, you must believe , I really saw it….”
The frowned lines between the innkeeper’s eyebrows were so deep they looked like they could trap mosquitos, she glanced down at her arm.
The area gripped by Cinderella was already bruising, indicating how strong the grip had been.
Cinderella, still unaware, continued to plead with the innkeeper to beg the Prince for rcy.
“What did you see?”
Suddenly, a beautiful female voice erged from the shadows.
Su Li noticed Cinderella’s body visibly twitched upon hearing this voice.
She feigned calmness on her face, but her eyes were filled with unmistakable fear.
She was scared…..
Two figures, one tall, one short, erged from the darkness, and as the garden lamp hit them, Su Li and the rest could see clearly that the man was the Prince they had seen before, and the woman, well, was unknown to them.
Yet this woman was intimately linking arms with the Prince, standing beside him with a joyous smile.
The Prince looked down at this woman, and his eyes couldn’t hide his adoration and affection.
truth be told, the duo standing together seed quite the match.
The woman shone like a radiant pearl, her brilliance sparking the brightest in the night.
Watching these two people appear before her, Cinderella was overwheld with pain and hate, but also a mix of fear and dread, among other emotions.
It was quite complicated.
Even as her eyes flitted over them both, she instinctively lowered her head, avoiding eye contact with the individuals before her.
