"Don’t dare, don’t dare!"

Upon hearing Yuan Yindi ntion the cri of deceiving the emperor, Old Yuan and Mrs. Zeng were both terrified.

They wanted to climb the royal ranks, not incur the cri of deceiving the emperor.

Seeing the two elders startled, Yuan Yindi glanced at Ruan Wan with so pride, as if claiming credit from his wife!

Unfortunately, joy turned to sorrow!

Before Yuan Yindi could revel for too long, Old Yuan suddenly ca to his senses, glaring at Yuan Yindi, saying, "Since Jiaojiao’s marriage is to be arranged by the emperor, isn’t the matter of her marriage with the young master of the Wei Family deceiving the emperor?"

"Father, these are entirely two different things!"

Yuan Yindi sighed, "Wushang’s mother is the current Eldest Princess, his grandmother is the Empress Dowager, and his uncle is the current Emperor!"

"This marriage was requested personally by the Eldest Princess, with the intention to seek our consent, showing respect for our family!"

"Once we nod our agreent, the Eldest Princess will approach the emperor for his blessing in marriage!"

"Of course, most importantly, Jiaojiao herself is in favor of this marriage."

At this mont, Yuan Yindi was not inclined to explain to his parents anymore.

To put it simply, this marriage is not what the elders wanted; they wanted to rise high, to beco as noble as a phoenix. Frankly speaking, if the matter with the Fourteenth Prince hadn’t co up first, upon knowing the status of the Wei Family, his parents would surely support the marriage wholeheartedly.

People always see the grass on the other side as greener, while failing to consider their actual circumstances.

Currently, Daxia’s Crown Prince is yet to be determined, and the princes all have their ambitions.

Though the Fourteenth Prince has never shown an interest in seizing the throne, as Emperor Xia’s son, how could he have no such desire at all?

Their family’s current status was not achieved through the prince, but rather through Emperor Xia.

Understanding this, Yuan Yindi set his principle as staying out of the fight for the throne, remaining purely within the Emperor’s faction.

Being part of the Emperor faction essentially ans following the emperor, prioritizing the emperor in all considerations.

Otherwise, how could he, a farr with no foundation, rise to a position of two thousand stones in the imperial court in such a short ti?

It’s not about having the Eldest Princess, the Ruan Family, or the Wei Family’s support; these are all surface factors!

The root of Yuan Yindi’s current status lies in consistently standing with the emperor and acting in Daxia’s strength.

Emperor Xia is in his pri, and even if the Crown Prince were nad, stepping into power would take at least ten years, potentially more. Under such circumstances, backing any prince, even the Crown Prince, might not lead to a good outco.

The contest among princes for the throne is akin to gambling; once a target is chosen, there’s no turning back.

Moreover, Yuan Yindi dislikes gambling.

Thus, he stays uninvolved.

He is purely a minister.

No matter which prince ultimately takes the throne, if they wish to strengthen Daxia, they’ll depend on him as a pure minister. And if the prince who takes the throne turns out to be an incompetent ruler, Yuan Yindi might simply be neglected or even expelled from the court.

Over the years, Yuan Yindi served his region, benefiting the people and doesn’t collect bribes like so other officials occasionally do.

Since his family lacks no silver, Yuan Yindi genuinely serves the people as an official.

Being originally from a farming background, Yuan Yindi truly empathizes with the agricultural hardships.

"Since you all have thought it through, we, as the elderly, shall not say anything further!"

Realizing the marriage is already decided, Old Yuan and Mrs. Zeng ceased their concerns. To them, although Wei Wushang’s status might not match the Fourteenth Prince’s, Wei Wushang’s standing, compared to their family, is indeed quite remarkable.

The Fourteenth Prince is Emperor Xia’s son, while Wei Wushang is Emperor Xia’s nephew.

The difference between them isn’t that significant after all.

Enough! Enough!

It’s all fate!

Knowing the situation cannot be changed, Old Yuan and Mrs. Zeng decisively accepted their fate.

...

Yuan Bao was unaware of the thrilling clash between her uncle and Ruan with Old Yuan and Mrs. Zeng concerning her marriage.

Old Yuan and Mrs. Zeng ceased their fussing, allowing Yuan Yindi and Ruan Wan to breathe a sigh of relief.

Following that, they left Old Yuan and Mrs. Zeng’s courtyard to return to the garden where they got married.
