Yuan Bao stayed in Sanfu Village until the autumn winds turned chilly.

At this ti, the Wei Family ladies who had gone to Yunyang City for the sumr had already returned.

When Yuan Bao received the news, she did not return to Yunyang City imdiately but remained in the village.

The reason she chose not to return was partly because Sheng Xueyi had also returned to Yunyang City, and partly because undercover agents from the Sound Listening Bureau discovered that an unknown identity mysterious figure appeared in Changping Town, seemingly probing for information about Sanfu Village.

Previously, as Yuan Bao’s fiefdom, the villagers of Sanfu Village had suddenly disappeared without a trace.

Now, Emperor Xia had people resettle villagers there, aiming to lure out the mastermind behind the incident.

After waiting so long without any progress, suddenly there was news. How could Yuan Bao bear to leave now?

"Village chief, a gentleman does not stand under a dangerous wall!"

"We should return to the city!"

Nanny Xue did not suggest Yuan Bao remain in Sanfu Village.

After all, no one knew what had truly befallen the previous villagers of Sanfu Village.

Should the people behind this strike again, if Yuan Bao stayed here, it would certainly be fraught with danger.

"Nanny Xue, if there really is danger, shouldn’t we take all the villagers away with us?"

Yuan Bao blinked, feigning innocence as she looked at Nanny Xue.

In fact, Yuan Bao didn’t think being here was dangerous.

Though the previous villagers of Sanfu Village had mysteriously disappeared, leaving behind all their gold, silver, and money in their hos, Yuan Bao did not believe the villagers had been murdered.

During her ti in the village, Yuan Bao had been pondering this question.

Why did the villagers of Sanfu Village disappear?

This village didn’t harbor any special secrets.

Moreover, nothing had happened to the villagers for a long ti, but after it beca her fiefdom, an incident occurred. If there truly was soone behind the scenes, then they must be targeting her specifically.

Based on this consideration, Yuan Bao felt it was most suitable for her to stay in the village.

Of course, she couldn’t share her conjectures with Nanny Xue or anyone else around her.

After all, such a theory would make her seem too self-important.

"Village chief, better safe than sorry!"

Nanny Xue stared earnestly at Yuan Bao.

She genuinely believed it was unwise for Yuan Bao to stay here.

If any accident occurred, none of them could bear the consequences.

"Nanny Xue, why don’t I ask Sister i to call for more people?"

Since there are concerns about danger, why not bring in more hands for support?

"If the village chief insists on staying in the village, then indeed more people should be called in."

Nanny Xue responded decisively.

"Sister i!"

To stay and to avoid Nanny Xue’s nagging, Yuan Bao imdiately called i Jiu to arrange for more people to co to Sanfu Village.

...

By nightfall, the villagers of Sanfu Village had all gone to sleep.

Yuan Bao, however, was wide awake. In the evening, she received a ssage from a secret agent from the Sound Listening Bureau hidden in the shadows, indicating that the person snooping around for information in Changping Town had already infiltrated the woods outside Sanfu Village.

"Sister i, what do you think that person is here for?"

Yuan Bao was sowhat puzzled.

If the one gathering information was sent by the person behind the villagers’ disappearance in Sanfu Village, then why did he co alone to Sanfu Village?

"Village chief, well, I wouldn’t know!"

i Jiu shrugged.

Her duty was to ensure Yuan Bao’s safety; as for solving the case, she didn’t have the mind for it.
