The female companion was startled by He Chen’s half-smile, a trace of nervousness appearing in her eyes.
She thought she had done it without anyone noticing, but the man in front of her was clearly not easily fooled.
At the sa ti, Yin Mo was sitting directly across from He Chen.
She didn’t need to lift her eyes to catch, in her peripheral vision, He Chen’s action of patting the female companion’s cheek.
Yin Mo pressed her lips together, took a sip of her wine, and remained calm, showing no sign of her thoughts.
Dinner finished and it was not yet eight o’clock.
The puppy-like boy had already made his escape with the excuse of going to the bathroom, and He Chen’s female companion had vanished after dinner.
Xi Luo and Yin Mo were nowhere to be seen, while Li Qiao was nonchalantly sipping a glass of milk.
A few handso n sat chatting in the smoking area.
Zong Zhan was inquiring with Li San about Zong Yue’s recent situation, while Jin Rong, having drunk too much, was sprawled out on the sofa in a deep sleep.
Shang Yu crossed his long legs in front, exuding an elegantly idle deanor, "You weren’t this boring before."
The man’s voice was, as always, deep and llow; with a slight glance, his gaze fell on He Chen.
Both held cigarettes between their fingers. He Chen brought one to his lips and took a puff, "You said I wasn’t this boring, was before, and won’t change.
Tonight, He Chen seed even more cold and profound than usual.
He took another drag on his cigarette, his brows indifferent as he scoffed lightly, "Do I look like soone who would do such things to you?"
"You didn’t before." Shang Yu’s eyes narrowed slightly, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth, "Tonight, it’s hard to say."
He Chen was choked by the thick smoke, looking at the man with a sullen face, "Such lowly scheming, do I need it?"
Shang Yu lowered his gaze and flicked the ash off his trousers, speaking with profound aning, "As long as you know."
He Chen licked his teeth, sucked in his cheek, and let out a cold snort, "Just a chance encounter downstairs, He Ao has already taken her away."
Shang Yu rubbed his fingertips together, "A chance encounter? How would she know your schedule?"
"He Ao will make her tell the truth." A dangerous glint appeared in He Chen’s eyes, "I also want to know... who dares to sell my information in South Sea?"
Shang Yu leaned in to extinguish his cigarette, a hint of amusent hidden in his deep eyes, "The tactic of using the plan against itself is decent, but others might not think so."
Others...
He Chen never hides anything in front of Shang Yu.
He was silent for two seconds before smiling casually, "It doesn’t matter, as you said, it’s others."
He Chen is experienced, having been through the ups and downs of the playing field for years, long past the age of using one woman to test another.
The jealousy and rivalry between won only make one feel annoyed.
Besides... he didn’t touch Yin Mo that night, and he won’t do anything to her again.
...
Elsewhere, Xi Luo was in the hallway outside the hall, on the phone with Princess Margaret, who aside from complaining about the boredom of life, also revealed an important ssage, "After Christmas, I might have to go to Myanmar with Charlman, what should I do? Should I take a knife for self-defense?"
Xi Luo leaned against a column, rcilessly teasing her, "Co on, with your skills, that knife might end up stabbing yourself."
"Annoying!" Margaret huffed discontentedly, "I can’t rely on Xiao Li, I can’t just sit and wait to die."
Xi Luo felt the urge to smoke and started looking around for a fellow smoker to borrow a cigarette from.
Coincidentally, soone was standing by the dimly lit handbridge, with the smoking area not far away, Xi Luo walked over while saying into the phone, "Sister, you think ssing up your arranged marriage is sothing easy? Saying it so lightly, if you have the guts, do it yourself."
Margaret pursed her lips, "I was just saying casually, why are you being so fierce."
Xi Luo pushed open the glass door connecting to the handbridge and sighed, "Haven’t you been saying that your dad and Charlman’s relationship is not very congenial lately, this must be Li Qiao’s handiwork.
Otherwise, she has faster ways to disrupt your marriage, in the end, it’s all to save your face, don’t be ungrateful."
Margaret, chastened, responded weakly, "What thod? I’d like to hear, face isn’t more important than life."
"Oh, then find a man for an affair, maybe get pregnant, not only would it anger your dad to death, but also embarrass Charlman, why don’t you try?"
Margaret was silent for a long while, finally responding dryly, "I do want so face..."
After all, as a royal princess, she couldn’t dishonor the royal family’s honor.
Hearing this, Xi Luo rolled her eyes, "There you go, why are you in such a hurry? If it weren’t for Li Qiao, you wouldn’t avoid the New Year’s Day wedding, and still have the nerve to complain."
Margaret uttered a curse before hanging up the call.
What best friends, purely plastic.
Xi Luo glanced at her phone, not taking it seriously, and upon reaching the other side of the handbridge, she discovered it was a familiar face, "You smoke too?"
Yin Mo was ssaging and looked up to smile when she heard Xi Luo’s voice, "I don’t smoke."
"Oh..." Seeing she had no cigarette, Xi Luo turned with disappointnt, "Then I’ll go back and get one."
Yin Mo paused her gaze, her voice calm, "There’s a pack here, not sure who left it."
Xi Luo turned and saw her handing over a pack of cigarettes and a lighter.
Not sure who left it?
This was a blatant lie that Xi Luo didn’t believe for a second.
She smirked, walking back over to inspect the cigarette pack, "This looks like He Chen’s cigarettes."
Yin Mo: "..."
She suddenly regretted bringing out the cigarette pack.
Xi Luo cast a sidelong glance at Yin Mo, lighting one up on her own, spoke muffled, "Did he leave midway through dinner to co and smoke here?"
Yin Mo was slow to process, taking several seconds to catch on to the point in Xi Luo’s words.
But she didn’t ask, continuing to tap at her phone screen without any noticeable emotional fluctuation.
Xi Luo looked at her profile for a bit, realizing she was being self-indulgent.
After a mont, Xi Luo clicked her tongue, savoring for a few seconds before disliking, "This cigarette is awful, too strong, irritating."
With that, she stubbed out the remaining half cigarette in the ashtray and casually returned the cigarette pack to Yin Mo, "Thanks."
Yin Mo watched Xi Luo’s action, shook her head, and didn’t accept it, "Not my cigarettes, if they’re He Chen’s, you should give them back to him."
Xi Luo raised an unnoticeable eyebrow, a slyness twinkled in her eye, "Alright~"
Yin Mo didn’t dislike Xi Luo, even having so admiration for her, after all, they were both friends of Qi Zai, admiration by association was justified.
She smiled slightly, her gaze soft, "Trouble you."
Xi Luo blinked once then deliberately patted Yin Mo’s shoulder ceremoniously, "Sister, your smile is really beautiful, don’t keep a straight face all the ti, smile more."
She finally understood why He Chen would fall for Yin Mo.
When this woman was expressionless, she was as cold as ice, but when she smiled, the ice could lt.
That face, the smile lingered in elegance.
