The night was like water. A few minutes later, Li San took Nan Xin back to his dormitory.
Under the bright incandescent lamp, he examined the bruise on the woman’s forearm, "Did you pinch this yourself?"
Nan Xin rolled her eyes, "Do I need to hurt myself to deal with Yue Yue? This was from a fight this morning."
Lips pressed together, Li San pushed up his sleeves and clumsily massaged her injured area, "Call next ti sothing happens, don’t try to handle it alone."
"If I call you, you’ll probably just call useless. It’s better to handle it myself."
Li San paused, his gaze unreadable, "Have I called you that before?"
Nan Xin retorted, "Have you ever not called nas before?"
Li San fell silent, contemplating if he really often scolded Nan Xin.
Before he could find an answer, the woman in front of him spoke again, "With your massaging technique, my whole arm might be bruised by tomorrow morning."
"What do you an?"
Obviously, Li San was encountering a gap in his knowledge.
Nan Xin sat on the edge of the bed with her knees tucked under, pushed his hand away, and pressed on the bruised area, "You can’t massage bruises, it’ll just make them worse."
Li San quickly withdrew his hand, his tense face showing a hint of regret, "Then how should it be treated?"
Having spent years at the frontier where injuries were common, whether it was his lifestyle or his temperant, he was a typical rough man, rarely noticing these details.
But Nan Xin was different. She had been by Li San’s side for years, and every ti they got hurt, it was her who would bandage and take care of them afterward.
It was like being a doctor long enough after a prolonged illness.
This little matter didn’t bother Nan Xin at all, she said nonchalantly, "Don’t worry about it, it’ll get better in a few days."
"Teach ." Li San sowhat assertively pulled her hand back, "Or call a doctor."
Nan Xin curled her fingers, feeling more keenly his changes.
In the past, not to ntion treating a wound, even if her arm fell off, this man might not express any concern.
The contrast was too vast, Nan Xin focused, her eyes warming, "Applying ice will help a lot."
Li San got up and opened the fridge in the corner of the room, rummaging through it casually, "There might not be any..."
Nan Xin spoke at the right mont, "The ice is on the bottom shelf."
Li San held the fridge door, looking at her with surprise and a complex emotion beyond words.
Nan Xin smiled slightly, "If you haven’t tossed them, they should be on the very bottom. I put them there back then."
This was Li San’s dormitory, and despite being away for over three months, Nan Xin still rembered everything in the room vividly.
Li San crouched down to open the bottom shelf and indeed saw a neatly stacked row of ice packs. He hesitated, then with a deep expression, took one and returned to the bedside, sitting in silence for a long ti.
Nan Xin didn’t know what Li San was thinking, but she smilingly stretched out her hand, "Hand it over."
The man had no experience in taking care of others. As tough and domineering as he might seem, in reality, he was no different from an overgrown child who couldn’t take care of himself.
Nan Xin didn’t want to make things hard for him. Just as she was about to take the ice pack, Li San abruptly asked, "Never saw a doctor for injuries?"
"They were all minor injuries, not worth it." Nan Xin watched him tightly grip the ice pack and couldn’t help but tease, "What? You feel sorry for ?"
Li San raised his eyes, his expression serious and earnest, "Yeah, a bit."
What started as a joke, Nan Xin hadn’t expected him to answer.
But hearing that ’a bit’ with her own ears, she was stunned for a few seconds, then couldn’t help but laugh.
At this mont, Li San lifted Nan Xin’s wrist and placed the ice pack on the bruise, "Where’s the first aid kit?"
Nan Xin answered without hesitation, "Third shelf on the left side of the bookcase."
"My suit?"
Nan Xin replied, "I took it to the laundry before I left, didn’t you pick it up yourself?"
"Beer?"
Nan Xin rubbed her temples, "Under the bed."
At this point, Li Cheng fell completely silent.
Things he never paid attention to were all ticulously taken care of by Nan Xin, yet he was completely unaware.
In an instant, an unprecedented sense of guilt overwheld his mind, and obscure emotions fernted and clashed within his chest.
Li San looked down, his voice tight, "You’re not a servant. There’s no need for you to do all this."
"You realize I’m not a servant?" Nan Xin cast him a sidelong glance, "Then what were you thinking every ti you ca to asking about this or that?"
If she could be lazy, she wouldn’t waste energy on small matters.
But Li San trusted her, or rather depended on her. From lighters to furniture, if he couldn’t find sothing, he’d definitely ask Nan Xin.
Over ti, Nan Xin developed a small habit.
Anything related to Li San she would pay special attention to.
At this ti, Li San rolled his Adam’s apple silently, finally saying, "Don’t do it anymore."
"Alright, just keep it in mind yourself."
Nan Xin casually agreed but didn’t take it seriously.
After about ten minutes, Li San threw the partially lted ice pack onto the table and picked up a pack of cigarettes from the cabinet, heading to the window to smoke in silence.
Nan Xin touched her cold, numb forearm, stood up, and said, "I’m heading back. You should get so rest."
"Can’t you sleep here?" Li San turned, a wisp of smoke still escaping his lips.
Nan Xin glanced at the double bed, raising an eyebrow, "You’re going to..."
"No." Li San walked up to her, cigarette in hand, and spoke solemnly, "Disbanding the workers takes ti. If you go back now, they might trouble you."
"You think I’m afraid?"
Forget about just one Yue Yue, even if that group ca at her all at once, she could handle it.
Li San frowned, "I’m afraid, alright?"
Nan Xin was montarily at a loss for words, struggling to find a response for quite so ti.
Seeing her hesitation, Li San leaned forward to embrace her, "I’m exhausted tonight, can’t do anything, reassured now?"
"Fine then."
Nan Xin stopped debating. After all, it wasn’t the first ti, and before they broke up, they would fall asleep in each other’s arms every night.
With the woman’s consent, Li San’s tense expression softened a bit.
He watched as Nan Xin walked into the bathroom, a sour swelling in his heart beyond words.
And then, the woman reappeared in the doorway, "Where did you put my toothbrush and stuff?"
Li San paused with the cigarette halfway to his lips, lying through his teeth, "Weren’t they all put away by you?"
Nan Xin leaned on the door fra, playfully brushing back her long hair, "Really? Then I might as well head back..."
"I threw them out."
Nan Xin: "..."
She glared at Li San, unamused, "Why didn’t you just throw out too?"
The man, rare for him, lowered his stance, "Check the bathroom cabinet for new ones. If there aren’t any, I’ll have soone buy them."
"Nope, I’ve checked." Nan Xin fiddled with her nails, "Don’t trouble yourself in the middle of the night. I’ll head back to my dormitory..."
"Wait, I’ll go get it."
Li San didn’t give Nan Xin a chance to finish, hurriedly stubbed out the cigarette, and swiftly walked out the door.
This action left Nan Xin unexpectedly surprised. She was stunned for a couple of seconds, then quickly laughed.
In truth, she wasn’t planning to back out, just wanted to return to the female dormitory to grab her toiletries.
