The Fate Of The World Is In My Hands, But All I Want To Do Is Eat! Chapter 96: They would have expectations of her
Leo did not say anything after that, making Alice a little bit frustrated. Was he trying to say that it would be her fault if she ran from the fight and a lot of people died?
Couldn’t they just assu she never existed? How did they manage before she beca an awakened?
*A lot of people usually get sacrificed in the crossfire.* Leo spoke up and she furrowed her eyebrows.
’And you think saying that is going to change my mind?’ She asked him.
*You were given your powers to save humanity, not watch it fall while you enjoy your sweet quality ti sleeping and eating.* He said and she scoffed.
"Hm, why does that sound familiar?" She asked sarcastically and then snapped her fingers. "Oh right. Wasn’t that why humans were granted the powers from the ’constellation’? Ah, yes. That was it. But I don’t see so many of them saving humanity now, do I?" She was pissed.
Yeah, she might’ve accepted to play along with his hero quest but wasn’t he asking too much of her at this mont?
If it was the big deal, demons and S-class monsters, then she would agree to take care of them. But now she has to worry about every single gate that spawned?
What was she doing? Charity service? She valued her sweet ti.
Mark and Devon watched her closely, listening to the words she sotis said out of her mind and her pissed expression.
Was she arguing with Leo? They wondered.
But it was quite obvious just watching how her face contorted in annoyance and how she kept talking in spite.
Mark, for one, had experienced her arguing with the voice in her head a few other tis and he felt, ’Ah, they seem to do this way too often’
But the context of their conversation this ti, though unclear, had sothing to do with awakeneds?
Just what were they talking about and why was Alice pissed?
They could not even ask her about it. For one, she was still pissed. And for another, it wasn’t exactly their business. It would count as them ddling in her business.
*Alice, do you know what happens when you underestimate the enemy?* Leo asked.
"No, I don’t." She said. ’I don’t, so explain to is it a red gate this ti or a regular gate? Because I don’t think I’m cut out for charity services.’
*You think saving people is charity?*
’Uh-huh! What am I supposed to call it? I an, it’s not like I’m getting anything from it.’ she folded her arms, indifferently. ’And no one tried to perform charity on till now so I feel bitter about it.’
*...*
’So, tell . Are you just trying to take advantage of my compliance to make do all the dirty work or there’s a real big threat coming?’ she asked him.
*You’re still so stubborn.* He said to her but that wasn’t news to her. Stubbornness was a necessity if she didn’t want to be bossed around like she was a puppet. *I just want you to beco stronger. The more monsters you fight, the stronger you beco. You have no idea the level of threat you’re going to face during the second calamity.*
’I managed to survive till the third in the past without your help, right? So, I’m sure I can handle it.’ She said and got up, startling them.
She looked down at Mark and Devon, still seated, and sighed, brushing her hair back with her palm as she felt so frustrated and her mood was sour.
"Sorry, sothing ca up," she said and turned, wanting to walk away when she paused, seeing a group of ordinarily dressed awakeneds waiting for her in a crowd. "What... What is this?" She asked and turned to Devon who got up from his chair and stood to his feet, facing her.
"You asked them to co out." He said. "And that’s what they did. Though, I guess there were more than I thought. But they’re all curious about you, so they waited till you were ready to speak to them."
Alice looked at the crowd.
Why were there so many of them? She knew they were quite a few but this was far from her expectations.
And they even waited for her to turn to them? Wait, she didn’t talk aloud while arguing with Leo, did she?
She placed her hand on her chin, thinking. This was quite troubleso.
She wanted to get out of here before the gate spawned but how would she do that when there were so many of them who wanted to et her?
If she stayed any longer and the gate spawned, then they would definitely have expectations of her. What to do at this point?
She stepped back, her leg hitting against her chair. She looked down at Mark, hoping he could do sothing, but he didn’t do anything since she had asked for them to co forward.
The restaurant had beco empty for so reason. Why? Did people run away, thinking they were going to get into a fight?
Well, figures. These awakeneds, though simply dressed, looked intimidating and she could tell they didn’t like her much. Then why even bother to et her?
The lady in front was particularly hostile. A beauty with sharp eyes that wanted to pierce her heart with her doubting gaze, trying to intimidate this young girl who was speaking to her guild leader so casually.
’This is annoying.’ Alice thought, clicking her tongue.
"Miss Alice," Devon called and she looked at him. "Does it bother you?" He asked.
’Yes, Devon. It does, in fact, bother .’ she thought but did not dare to say that, especially after hearing his next words.
"I can ask them to leave right away. They will be far away from you and nowhere near this area." He assured her, but that was just ruining her plans.
"No!" Alice exclaid loudly. She noticed she had been a little out of control and they were looking at her like she was a crazy person. She glanced at the awakeneds briefly before glancing back at Devon. "I an, they ca all this way to see . Wouldn’t it be rude to send them away?"
If he sent them away and the gate spawned then there may be casualties before they got back to the location.
"Is that so?" He sighed and then said, "Miss Alice, I can tell you’re not comfortable with this. You don’t have to be polite."
’Who says I’m being polite? I just don’t want to be the one to take care of the monsters that will flood out of the gate. This is the least I can do.’ she folded her arms and said, "Anyway, I’m going to use the bathroom." She said and dashed towards the front door.
"Miss Alice, that’s the front door." Devon pointed out as she ran.
"Of course, I know that." She said, not minding that her motives would be exposed right away.
As soon as she walked out the door, she bent down and leaped into the air.
Devon, Mark, and the others who were in the restaurant watched her disappear into the air and soone asked,
"Did she just... Run away?"
(What did it look like she did? She went to the restroom in the sky.)
