A dead end, huh?

A befitting end for soone so proud, reckless, and cocky, using a power that she didn’t know where it ca from.

She was crazy. Uselessly crazy.

But the voice didn’t think that way.

*I won’t bla you for feeling like that. I’m the one putting you under pressure, forgetting the fact that you aren’t...* it paused, not completing its words, and shifted to another topic. *You’re just 17 so it’s normal for you to feel this way. When a person hits a wall in life, they tend to regret even the simplest things. You... You just need to ’rember’ and when you do, you won’t feel so restless.* It encouraged her.

"What’s that bullshit about now? What do I need to rember? I’m going to die and it’s because you want to be so stupid hero. Why do I even listen to you?" She pald her face.

*It’s because of the contract.* It said and she paused.

"What contract?" The voice went silent. "Hey, don’t turn silent now. Tell what contract you’re talking about. I don’t rember signing any contract."

After staying quiet for a while, the voice continued.

*Alice, so things... So things can’t be said yet because if I do say them, if I tell you sothing that’s way over your brain capacity that this current you can handle, then you will die. And that is why I keep most of it, including the origin of my existence a secret. At least... Until you’re strong enough.*

Alice was a bit confused. Was it saying that they made a contract soti in the past?

*In the future...* It said but the minotaurs had already caught up to her, raging towards her and causing the ground to quake.

The voice ended whatever it had to say there and said, *I’ll take it from here, Alice. For now, just rest.*

"Just rest?" She yelled in disbelief. "They are coming after . What are you...?" Her consciousness started fading and her mind started panicking.

How could she fall unconscious at a ti like this? She could die. The minotaurs were coming her way. They were so close and would crush her and... She couldn’t... she shouldn’t fall unconscious. She shouldn’t... Ah, she didn’t know anymore.

Alice fell unconscious, and the next mont she woke up, the next mont she regained herself, she found herself sitting on the floor with her back resting on the wall, and in front of her were the minotaurs. All dead.

She was dumbstruck.

How did they?

She looked around the dark place.

There were traces of battle. Fierce battle. There was even one of the axes the minotaurs carried stuck on the wall.

Heavy slash marks and blood all over. The ground was also nearly destroyed.

She couldn’t help but wonder what had happened while she was out of it. Did it take control of her body again? Like it did in the past where she had dashes in her mories and couldn’t tell what she did during her blackouts?

"Hey, are you there?" She called out to the voice in her head. "Did... Did you do all this?"

Silence followed. It was like the voice was out of battery again.

"Ugh! It stinks." Alice grunted at the strong stench of blood coming from the minotaurs. And also their rotting body. "Have they started to decay?" She wondered.

If that was the case then she couldn’t help but wonder how long she had blacked out.

"Ngh!"

Other than that, her body felt heavy.

It was like those days when you had to work, and even when tired, you’d have to push yourself way past the limit. And the next day, when it was ti to get up from bed, you’d feel your entire body sour and heavy, finding it hard to even step out of bed.

That was how she was feeling, if not worse.

"Did you use my body to hit the monsters instead of my hamr? Why do I feel like I’ll break any mont from now? Agh!"

*Alice,* the voice called.

"Hm? You recharged already?" She asked. "Tell , what happened?"

*...*

"Hm? Not fully charged yet? But can you at least tell why my body feels like it’s gonna fall apart any second from now?"

*I pushed your body to the limit* it said. *Though you were strong, taking on strengthened minotaurs in groups was sothing your body could not handle and so, I pushed it.*

Well, Alice had a faint idea about the limit thing, but strengthened minotaurs?

"Would you care to explain to how the minotaurs were strengthened?" She asked, folding her arms. "Did they get so sort of level-up ability or what?"

*...*

"What? Why won’t you answer? Is this too much for my brain to handle as well?"

*No, it’s not that. You... You’re sounding rather polite.* It said, and Alice took that as an insult, though she left it aside and decided to listen to what it had to say. *The minotaurs are generally strong monsters and, according to this world’s terms, are classified as A-class monsters.*

’This world?’ she raised an eyebrow at that term.

*But the minotaurs that attacked you were not the sa as the A-class minotaurs that are found in A-class dungeons.* It explained. *Generally, this gate is an anomaly. Even Red Gates don’t have complex climatic environnts and differentiated dungeons like this one has. And the reason this gate is an anomaly is because it was created specifically to bring about the calamity.*

"Okay, I get what you’re saying. So, the reason the minotaurs, no, the reason why there are so many S-class monsters that could’ve been bosses in separate S-class gate and monsters that should’ve been rated A-class are strengthened to the level of SS-class monsters... is because of the calamity?" She asked. "And there is a huge force controlling them? Is that it?"

*Huh, you’re way smarter than I thought.*

"Don’t insult ." She showed her trembling fist. "Anyway, that voice that spoke earlier, was it a demon?"

*...*

The voice went silent but soon, it asked,

*Alice, how well do you know about demons?*
