"About my mask," Micheal suddenly said, "The reason I wear it is because I have so much to hide."

"Hide? What are you hiding?"

"A scar. I... I have a very huge scar on my face and that is why I never take it off for any reason. I don’t want people looking at my scar."

Alice went silent. So, he was trying to hide his scar? What kind of scar?

"Was it a fire accident?" She asked but Micheal went silent.

"I don’t... Rember." He said, his arms squeezing tightly around her. "But it was dark and boiling. I’m certain I barely made it out alive, yet I don’t know how. It was before the apocalypse so..."

"Well, have you considered treating it now?" Alice asked him and broke the hug. "You could try using my elixir. I’m sure it would..." She stopped talking and pursed her lips.

Sothing told her he had tried it all, and none of them worked, and that was why he was always wearing the mask. It was so well made that no one could take a peek at what was behind it.

Micheal always looked so confident and was unbothered when people talked about his mask. He must’ve felt it would’ve been far more discomforting if they talked about his scar and preferred they talked about his mask.

In the first place, she thought he didn’t care about what other people had to say. But it turned out, he cared a lot.

This was rather... Sad.

Okay, no more talking about it. The mood was already dropping.

"Well, as creepy as the mask looks," she said and patted his shoulder. "As long as it makes you happy, it doesn’t matter."

Micheal stared at her and then laughed.

"Why did you believe so easily?" He suddenly asked, confusing her. "I may be lying." He said as he kept laughing. "What if the reason was sothing like, I can’t keep my powers from going out of control so the mask helps ? It could be anything but you believed so easily."

Alice, silent for a while, pinched her nose bridge and then sighed. She dropped her hand on his shoulder and squeezed hard.

"Micheal," she called her level of strength slowly pushing him down to his knees. "Let tell you sothing about , as a friend. I hate when soone is ssing with ." She said and he finally fell to his knees.

Her eyes glowed with a little tongue of annoyance as she stared down at him.

"And especially when they use it to make fun of ." She added and then a sudden ’sound’ escaped Michael’s lips.

"Ah!"

Alice’s eyes widened and she took her hand off imdiately. What did he just...?

"Alice," he called. "I wasn’t ssing with you, hehe. It was all true."

"Wait, what’s wrong with you?" She asked, stepping back but he got to his feet and approached her.

"What do you an?"

"Hey, you’re acting weird again. It’s like soone pushed a button in you or sothing."

"Yes, of course." He said. "You pushed my button and now I feel so delighted." He suddenly started laughing and Alice sighed. She was too young for this.

"You did that on purpose." She said. "What is with this weirdness of yours? You’re a weirdo who likes getting hit."

At the ntion of weirdo, Micheal paused, his face freezing in place but Alice was trying to rember that certain word that best described him.

"What was it again? I was sure it started with an M."

*Are you going to tell him that he’s a masochist straight to his face?* Leo asked.

’Ah, right. That’s the word.’ she snapped her fingers. ’But why not? He’s always creeping out, wanting to be hit and doing things that irritate so I can actually dominate him. I an,’ she peeked at Micheal. ’He should be more aware of the kind of person he is, even if I don’t tell him.’

*Yeah, I’m certain he knows what he is. But if you expose that you know, it might actually get him excited that you acknowledge his real desires. Sorry to say but this friendship ain’t gonna work out if that happens.*

Alice went silent and looked at Micheal. She had no idea what he was thinking or what kind of expression he had on his face, but she sensed cold.

She should’ve known he would be like this when he said she could use him as a punching bag for stress relief.

In any case, she had to get out of this, and there was only one way.

"I think it’s ti to leave." She said and started heading for the door, but he caught her arm. "Hey, I said..."

"You forgot sothing." He said and let go.

He picked up his coat, wore it, and then took out another mask from his inner pocket, which made think,

’Ah, it seems he’s got a pocket dinsion in his coat.’ Alice simply had that thought in passing, without much reasoning, forgetting that in this current world, there was no knowledge of spatial/storage magic or artifacts.

But even if she had thought about it then, she might’ve co up with the conclusion that, just like her, who has a ring that had the kind of space that half of the people in the world could contain, he had a spatial item he got from a dungeon and wasn’t ready to share the information with the world.

Then, were there other awakeneds who had spatial artifacts?

She had no idea but she wasn’t going to waste my ti to find out either.

Alice took the mask and wore it. They headed out right away, and once they were outside, Micheal released the magic, allowing her to hear outside noises again.

"Glad that’s over." She exclaid, glancing back at the building.

She didn’t think anything was going to make her go into that place in the future. It gave her goosebumps.

"Let’s go. I’ll escort you ho." Micheal said and Alice nodded.

Thankfully, the line was gone. They walked out through the portal and arrived where they wanted to be.

Alice stretched her limbs.

"I’m so exhausted." She said as they walked towards the back of the building, and suddenly, Micheal lifted her off her feet.

"Allow ." He said, and his feet lifted off the ground.

"And this is?"

"I told you I would escort you ho and that is what I’m doing." He said. Though she folded her arms, there was nothing she could say about it.

She could just consider this as a free ride.

But as soon as they got to her apartnt building, they found Devon and Mark standing outside and it looked like they were looking for sothing. Or were they just quarreling about what to add to the nu?

Her thinking was off, yes but she just didn’t understand what they were doing outside.

But she found out soon enough as soon as they caught sight of her coming down from Michael’s arms.

"Alice," they both chorused and hurried to where they were.

Devon’s eyes fell on Micheal. What was Alice doing with a guy like Micheal? He wondered and though he did not voice it, his expression said it all.

"Where have you been? I was so worried, and I tried calling, but..."

"May I remind you of sothing," Micheal suddenly spoke and they all turned to him. "Alice is not a kid and as we all know, she is stronger than all of us combined. So, why are you worrying that anyone is capable of kidnapping her?"

His question seed to infuriate Mark, and he stepped closer to him, forgetting their class difference, and grabbed Michael’s collar.

"You... Where did you take Alice to in the dead of the night?"

"Oh my, we just went to have so fun." Micheal said, clearly being provocative, and added, "Just the two of us."
