As the person in charge finished speaking, several mbers of the Security Bureau accompanying them stepped forward.
For those who joined the Security Bureau, summoning rain or guiding water were basic operations.
Just as these people stood up, Dashiell seed to have thought of sothing and followed suit.
He wasn’t interested in firefighting, but what if there was an opportunity for him there?
Seeing Dashiell’s rare eagerness, Scarlett Jennings simply said,
"I’ll take Dashiell over there to handle it, please take care of things here for the ti being."
Magnolia Hearne didn’t move, having full confidence in Scarlett.
The other mbers of the Security Bureau had no objections, but still sent one person to accompany Scarlett.
Dashiell, paying no mind to others, transford into a flood dragon on the spot, carrying Scarlett into the sky until they disappeared from view.
The person left behind was a bit confounded but quickly pulled out a Hastening Talisman to follow.
Leaving Artefact Village, they followed the direction of the smoke and discovered that the fire was still within the barrier.
By the ti they arrived, Scarlett and Dashiell were already there.
Several large trees and vegetation near the woods were ablaze, with thick black smoke billowing into the sky, finally catching the attention of the villagers below.
To Scarlett and Dashiell’s surprise, there were two familiar figures not far from the fire’s origin.
It was the couple of human traffickers previously buried by Jade Bennett.
Though unsure how they had erged from the ground earlier than expected, Scarlett instinctively knew this sudden forest fire was undoubtedly linked to them.
"Scarlett, I’ll catch those two!"
As Dashiell spoke and saw Scarlett nod, he imdiately set her down in an open area, then quickly pursued the fleeing couple.
Scarlett looked up at the rapidly spreading flas not far away and, without hesitation, began drawing a Void Talisman in the air using her spiritual power,
"Virtue of Water in Heaven and Earth, all things follow the flow, with the Talisman as proof, the breath as guide. Please heed the Imperial Decree, and bless the four directions!"
As the Spirit Talisman shone with spiritual light, water from the mountains answered the call, forming a water spiral in the air.
The water spiral, at Scarlett’s command, charged directly toward the center of the forest fire.
First suppress the flas with the water spiral, then extinguish the surrounding fire.
With this in mind, Scarlett’s hand gestures changed as she drew another Rainmaking Talisman in the air.
"Five Thunders General, thunder chasing cloud, Heavenly Talisman Appearance, Great Protection of Heaven and Earth..."
As the clear voice chanted, layers of dark clouds rapidly gathered above the mountain.
The villagers at the foot of the mountain, anxiously awaiting the firefighters, were delighted to see the dark clouds gathering.
"Great! The heavens are going to rain! The fire won’t be able to spread!"
Another villager asked, "Wasn’t there just a water dragon or sothing that suppressed the mountain fire?"
"Looked wrong? With all that smoke, where could a water dragon co from?"
The villagers gathered at the foot of the mountain discussed amongst themselves. Suddenly, soone looked around,
"Usually, when sothing happens in the village, Baoshan is running around. Why haven’t we seen him today? Where’s Baoshan?"
The villagers looked at each other, all shaking their heads, indicating they didn’t know.
They didn’t realize that even before the fire fully erupted, Baoshan had already headed up the mountain.
It started with a sudden dry thunderclap that hit while Baoshan was eating red bean cakes given by Niu Niu’s mother. Sensing sothing amiss, he abandoned the cake and ran up the mountain.
The cause of the mountain fire was not so different from Scarlett’s guess.
The dry lightning struck directly onto the wooden plank Dashiell had stuck between the couple.
It flipped the almost exhausted pair, who had been buried underground, out of the dirt.
The couple struggled out of the pit, weak from two days without food or water, yet they rembered that the person who buried them had planned to report them to the police after two days.
Fearing delay, they attempted to flee, but caught sight of the wooden plank, already smoldering from the dry lightning.
Recalling their experience of being buried, the man, filled with resentnt, grabbed the burning plank and threw it into a pile of dried leaves nearby.
As the area covered with dead leaves caught fire, the woman copied his act, picking up a burning branch and throwing it onto another pile of dried leaves.
After doing this, they supported each other and staggered away.
But they hadn’t run far when Dashiell showed up above them, and under their dumbfounded gaze, he chuckled and slapped his tail at them.
After quickly dealing with the couple, Scarlett’s rainmaking spell was just finishing.
"... Rivers and the Huai, Five Mountains Tour, Dragon God Decree, heed my command!"
With a rumble of thunder overhead,
Dashiell’s flood dragon scales seed to tingle as if electrified, standing on end, as the familiar Dragon God’s power gathered above.
Before long, a drop of jade bead splashed onto his scale.
Then, the torrential rain poured down.
The mountain fires were rapidly suppressed by the rain, and Dashiell, along with the two on the ground, was instantly drenched.
Yet Dashiell didn’t feel embarrassed in the least.
As the rain washed over him, he felt each of his flood dragon scales comfortably unfold, and the familiar yet unfamiliar sensation urged him to soar into the sky and dive into this downpour to relish the Dragon God’s presence within.
If Scarlett were here now, she would notice the faint silver-white spiritual light emanating from Dashiell’s body.
This light enveloped him, and even the line representing opportunity faintly extended sowhere within the light...
Just as Dashiell was about to follow his inclination and rush into the storm, a voice suddenly reached his ears from within the rain and the mountain.
The voice didn’t belong to the couple beside but was another human’s voice.
Groaning, slightly pained.
Dashiell hesitated for a second between sensing the Dragon God’s power in this rain and rescuing soone, but ultimately gritted his teeth, quickly heading toward the voice source.
The slender, agile silver-white flood dragon slipped through the dense forest and soon found, in a corner of the fire’s origin, a figure pinned by a broken tree trunk.
Dashiell rushed over without hesitating.
His tail swept through the rain, easily extinguishing the stubborn fire nearby.
With a quick pull of his claw, he dragged out the person trapped under the trunk onto his back.
The person was Baoshan, whom he’d t before.
Baoshan lay on his back as he was carried out of that area, the rain washing over his soot-blackened face. Once he saw what he was lying on, instead of fear, Baoshan showed a simple smile.
His fingers traced over the smooth scales beneath him, and in a hoarse voice, he said,
"It’s a little dragon..."
Originally focused on getting the person quickly out of the mountain, Dashiell suddenly heard this remark, making his whole body shiver as if shocked by electricity.
His silver scales bristled once more, and as if realizing sothing, he turned his head and tremulously asked the person on his back,
"What did you say I am?"
Baoshan lifted his head to et those vertical pupils in the rain, his eyes clear.
Looking at him seriously, he repeated,
"You’re a little dragon."
...
At that mont, no one saw it.
The line of opportunity on Dashiell’s body, at so point, connected with Baoshan on his back.
Destiny fulfilled,
he shall et water and transform into a dragon.
