Silence.
Endless silence drifted over the top of Scarlett Jennings’ head.
For the first ti in a while, her awkward middle-schooler syndro acted up again. Facing the gazes around her, she cleared her throat and pretended to be calm,
"Ahem... alright."
In the observation seats, alongside Scarlett were people from the Mystic Regulation Office and the Academy’s Demon Masters.
Coincidentally, among these Demon Masters were those who had participated in suppressing the Young Demon Class’s collective strike incident.
At that mont, one couldn’t help but smile, looking at Scarlett,
"Lucas is still so popular, huh?"
Scarlett smiled politely.
Suddenly, a Demon Master next to her sneered,
"The academy prohibits forming cliques. I rember that was one of the rules Lucas rectified previously. How co you forgot it yourself?"
He didn’t wait for Scarlett to speak and looked at the Young Demons below, showing dissatisfaction,
"As the future Imps of the Demon Clan, being so easily influenced and led astray, don’t they know any better?"
Though Scarlett found the Young Demons’ middle-schooler behavior embarrassing, she couldn’t pretend she heard nothing when they were criticized as clueless.
She turned to him, her voice calm,
"Just because they shouted a slogan doesn’t an they’re clueless. If you like pre-class lectures, does that also count as clueless?
You’re a century-old Demon Master, not a century-old fossil. Perhaps you’ve heard the human saying, ’You’re not young if you’ve never had a cringe phase.’ Is there a problem with the future Imps having a little bit of it?"
Scarlett’s words weren’t polite. Seeing the Demon Master about to retort, she suddenly raised her eyebrows at him, earnestly adding,
"The soul of middle-school syndro never dies, the flas of passion never extinguish!"
Though Scarlett was technically a young Imp based on age, given her consistent calm and steady personality in the Academy, her serious recitation of such a slogan made the people around her show expressions of disbelief.
The Demon Master felt his mouth twitch, thinking Scarlett was deliberately being obnoxious.
"This is the Academy of Mystique, not those human schools. These words are useless aside from being laughable!"
Just as his voice fell, an excited shout suddenly rang out from sowhere in the hall,
"So cool!! Give it your all! Smash them all!"
Everyone turned to see Lucas Jennings, in his canine demon form, suddenly standing up, cheering loudly for the Young Demons below.
Just a minute ago, hearing the Imps shout out that cringe slogan in unison had visibly startled Lucas, and he couldn’t help his curiosity,
"Who’s their leader? Soone so impressive?"
Getting so many followers.
Beside him, Hannah Hearne smiled, "Didn’t you hear who they were shouting for? Their leader is Scarlett."
Lucas was once again taken aback.
Not just him, even Adam and Donovan couldn’t hide their surprise.
Scarlett having followers? A whole group of them?
Looks like she’s doing remarkably well at the Academy of Mystique...
Thinking so, Lucas was already invigorated.
Look at them down there, all his sister’s followers.
As her little brother, he had to be one of them too!
So he stood up and shouted encouragent.
His voice was sudden, yet he felt no embarrassnt.
Quite a few people in the venue looked at Lucas, sowhat puzzled, "Which class is this canine demon from? Never seen him before?"
"Don’t know him, doesn’t look like he’s from the Academy of Mystique, how did he get in?"
The Young Demons below were also curious, not knowing where this canine demon ca from.
Lucas still felt no embarrassnt, seeing no one echo him, he shouted a couple more tis, even directly inviting those beside him to shout with him.
Adam was dying of embarrassnt, yet with Lucas holding his arm tightly, he could only join in the shouting,
"Give it your all! Smash them all!"
Dashiell and Hannah quickly adapted and chid in loudly.
Though the surrounding demons were bewildered, hearing this little group shouting made them instinctively join in too.
All of them were young demons, quickly adapting to such things, even feeling more spirited the more they shouted.
Soon, it spread swiftly across the venue from just a small area.
The slogans rolled in waves, resonating throughout the entire venue.
The Demon Master who had more to say was completely speechless.
Scarlett just laughed.
See, who said middle-school syndro is useless?
...
The waves of sound were so high here that they even reached the second venue.
Compared to the lively first venue, the second appeared much more orderly.
Samuel Chalrs was in charge of the second venue, but his ears remained attuned to the sounds from the first.
He naturally heard Scarlett intentionally spout those cringe words.
The corners of his lips lifted subconsciously, a bit surprised she’d say that, but also not entirely unexpected.
Realizing he was distracted, Samuel quickly pressed his lips into a straight line, containing his emotions, and looked at the nine-panel arena, then announced,
"The first match of the Mystic Court selection begins now."
With this announcent, the first batch of demons at both venues got into position.
Demon Energy spread out, attacking the opponents directly.
At the very mont of their movents, in a room situated between the two venues, several mbers of the Mystic Regulation Office activated their demonic power simultaneously.
The array beneath the eighteen temporary small arenas at both venues was activated.
All the demons on the arenas suddenly felt their Demon Energy beco lively within.
It was like using so sort of stimulant; whether interested or disinterested in the internal selection happening across the academy, everyone standing on the arena was unconsciously thrilled and engaged.
This array was especially prepared by Scarlett and Samuel for the demons of the Academy of Mystique.
Only when the impurities hidden within the Demon Energy were fully stimulated by the activated demonic power would they surface.
And it was only at the mont they erged that Scarlett and Samuel could accurately identify the demons tainted by these impurities.
"First venue, third arena, number fourteen, imdiate withdrawal."
"Second venue, ninth arena, number three, imdiate withdrawal."
With the issuance of Scarlett and Samuel’s instructions, the people around maintaining venue order, who were actually mbers of the Mystic Regulation Office, quickly entered the arena, accurately subduing the still-fighting demons.
Since the demon’s tainted energy had just surfaced, the demons hadn’t yet been affected enough to go berserk, making them dazed when caught.
Scarlett’s explanation for this was,
"Excellent overall evaluation, you can withdraw early to enter the next special selection round."
Saying this was to avoid revealing the impurity-taint incident and cause unnecessary panic.
The Imps who were suddenly interrupted in their fight and taken down initially felt disgruntled, but upon hearing they were allowed into a special selection round for their excellent performance, they were instantly elated and eagerly followed the Mystic Regulation Office personnel off the arena.
The Imps removed from the arena were directly taken to a room in the middle between the two venues for centralized supervision.
The other Imps still in the arena, having heard about the special selection, albeit not knowing what it was about, all strove hard, aiming to beco the excellent and special ones too.
Of all present, only one person sat in the watching area, quietly observing the situation inside.
Though this internal selection across the academy seed legitimate, he always felt sothing was off.
It was only when he saw the series of Imps being escorted away that the lurking unease in his heart was finally confird.
A cold smile curled up the corners of his mouth.
So, this was the plan all along...
