"Barrett Clent?"

Scarlett Jennings softly probed, asking the little orange cat in the cage.

The little orange cat nodded, letting out a pitiful ow towards her, and the next second, as if sensing sothing, it let out a sharp ow towards the back of Scarlett Jennings.

Scarlett turned around, just in ti to see soone in the courtyard noticing the commotion and striding out quickly.

A few burly n glared viciously at Scarlett standing by the car,

"Damn, another little girl! Always ddling! You really think I don’t dare to kill you?!"

Clearly, they mistook Scarlett for soone’s accomplice.

Although she didn’t know exactly who, Scarlett could more or less guess.

Cats and dogs smuggled like this were often stray, but to make money, these people would sotis steal pets with owners too.

Whether for sale or for so people’s dining tables.

She had seen online stories of people pursuing these pet traffickers across great distances to retrieve their stolen cats, and there were many compassionate individuals striving to rescue pets.

Yet, as much good exists in the world, so does equal evil.

For every person striving to prevent brutal killings of these human companions, there’s a demon harming them for selfish desires.

Scarlett didn’t care what they mistook her for; she’s no saint with ambitions to eradicate all villainy and injustice.

But since she encountered this, she wouldn’t turn a blind eye.

Especially, when the cat she’s tasked with finding is here.

Scarlett ignored the nacing n in front of her and turned to open the nearest cages.

Though the cats and dogs inside were locked in and barely clinging to life, they staggered towards the open cage doors at the sight of freedom.

The n surrounding the truck watched her nonchalant actions with even fiercer and horrifying expressions,

"Dead girl! Who gave you permission to touch those cages? Without a lesson, you really think we can’t deal with you!"

One said, stepping forward, reaching to grab Scarlett’s hair.

You could tell anyone involved in this business wasn’t kind-hearted.

In a place like this, a lone little girl could disappear without a trace if they decided to do her in.

With malicious intent, as one reached for Scarlett’s hair,

Scarlett suddenly turned, raising her hand; whatever she did, the n only saw a sudden gust of demon wind sweep through, raising dust.

As the dust settled, they saw a trench on the ground between them and her, as if traced by a sharp blade.

Scarlett stood there, coldly watching them,

"I advise you not to cross this line, or else I can’t guarantee what might happen."

The n didn’t watch live streams or recognize Scarlett, but seeing her trick, even these big n felt a shiver run down their spines.

They couldn’t see what she used to make that trench.

Clearly, she had nothing in her hand!

"What... what are you?"

The first man to speak eyed Scarlett warily.

Scarlett ignored them, instead turning to open more cages, freeing the cats and dogs. The little Cat Demon Barrett, once released, hissed and lunged to fight them relentlessly.

But just as it leapt, Scarlett caught it.

Placing it on top of her backpack, Scarlett nimbly climbed onto the truck to drag out the severely cramped cages.

Seeing the cats and dogs continuously escaping the truck, Scarlett deliberately ignored them while freeing those they took so much effort to capture.

Their faces flushed with anger, and they shouted vehently at Scarlett,

"Who the hell are you?!"

Scarlett’s companion Shellback erged from her backpack, showing a fierce expression at the n.

[She’s your great aunt! I’m your Turtle Sage ancestor!]

Without Scarlett’s permission, the system didn’t fly out but couldn’t help prompting,

[Scarlett, what are you doing? Just strike them down with lightning already! Who do they think they are, asking who you are.]

Scarlett continued her work, ignoring the screaming n below.

Before the system could freak out, those n couldn’t contain their fury any longer and crossed Scarlett’s line to drag her down from the truck.

Yet before he could touch the truck, as he stepped over the line, Scarlett already used demonic power to condense a fox fur into a steel needle, shooting towards the man’s foot without hesitation.

The demon-infused needle pierced his foot, nearly pinning him to the ground.

Imdiately, the man scread, collapsing to the ground, clutching his foot in agony.

"Ahhh..."

The sudden reaction startled the n about to act, leaving them bewildered as they watched the man writhing on the ground,

"Why are you screaming?!"

"My foot! My foot! Ahhh..."

They looked at his foot, frowning, "Your foot is fine! Stop screaming and get up!"

Soone tried pulling him up only to find his foot seemingly nailed in place, the action making him scream even more.

He could see his foot wasn’t hurt, but that step over the line made his foot pain feel as if sothing pierced right through.

The pain wasn’t just physical but felt more like... pain on the soul.

The others didn’t understand when he tried conveying it, even touching his foot to find nothing.

However, due to their actions, seeing the hand crossed over the line, Scarlett shot another fox fur demon needle straight into the man’s hand.

In an instant, the man finally understood his companion’s pain.

Clutching his unhard palm, the man shrieked, collapsing beside the first man.

With two n consecutively struck, the others instinctively backed away from Scarlett’s line in fear.

Looking back at her, their eyes carried a clear terror.

Shellback, thinking she intended not to take action, was feeling satisfaction at the sight.

[Hmph, I thought you were going to adhere to the Mystical Sect’s rule about not acting against ordinary people.]

Thinking it’d act if she didn’t.

This ti, Scarlett finally responded,

"The Mystical Techniques don’t allow being used on ordinary people, so I didn’t use Spiritual Power; I used demonic power."

As a mber of the Mystic Regulation Office, encountering interference from ordinary people during a rescue mission, employing demonic power to deal with malefactors was quite reasonable, right?

Shellback: ...

Not bad, very precise.
