Chapter 825: Chapter 825: No Comndation Given
When the Demon Masters from the Academy of Mystique arrived, they caught the scene just in ti to see Scarlett Jennings strike an evil demon with a bolt of lightning, leaving it charred and unconscious on the ground.
At the sa ti, Callum Yuan was dragging back another evil demon that had been beaten beyond recognition.
The three evil demons were thus captured and handed over by the Demon Masters to the Mystic Regulation Office for final disposal.
The Demon Masters hadn’t had the chance to take action, but the matter was completely resolved. Though they felt proud inside, criticism was still necessary.
Underage demons, leaving the academy without permission to hunt evil spirits—if anything happened, it would be a big deal!
“You all! …”
The expression of reprimand on the Demon Masters’ faces had just started to form when suddenly a cheer erupted from the young demons.
“We won! We’re amazing!”
“We defeated a bad demon!”
“We rescued our brothers!”
“Scarlett defeated one by herself! She’s the best!”
“She has two tails! She’s incredible!”
The young demons didn’t give the Demon Masters a chance to scold them. Although each demon had a bit of disarray on their faces and bodies, they were still excitedly and happily circling around Scarlett Jennings.
Although Dashiell didn’t know what exactly happened since he ca late, seeing the young demons circling Scarlett, he joined in the circle.
As to why they were only circling Scarlett and not Callum Yuan,
that was because Scarlett Jennings was one of their Young Demon Class, one of their own.
Callum Yuan was from the West District; they didn’t know him.
If before the young demons rely accepted Scarlett Jennings as their little brother, after she led them in rescuing the kidnapped young demons and showed her strength, they now sincerely regarded her as their boss in their hearts.
Because of the obvious support from the young demons, even if so of the Demon Masters didn’t like Scarlett’s unauthorized investigation, they refrained from criticizing her any further.
This incident was naturally reported to the Mystic Regulation Office, and the Academy of Mystique intensified its managent over students, especially those from the Demon Class.
…
Aaron Hearne, after hearing the details of the event, couldn’t quite describe his feelings about Scarlett Jennings, only saying,
“Though reckless, at least she didn’t disgrace the Hearne Family.”
He then asked,
“Did the academy give her any awards?”
Aaron Hearne casually asked this, but saw Sylvia Murray hesitate after his question, and Aaron’s eyes slightly lifted,
“No?”
Sylvia Murray replied awkwardly,
“The academy’s statent is that since she left the academy with a bunch of young demons to capture a fierce demon without permission, despite resolving the issue smoothly, rits cancel out faults… so no special awards.”
In essence, it’s because Scarlett Jennings is of Half-Demon birth.
Many in the Demon Clan at the academy naturally look down on Half-Demons, let alone one born of a Mixedblood Monster.
She’s said to be a Hearne demon, but the Hearne Family, apart from placing her in the academy, hasn’t shown her any special favor. After rescuing the young demons, the Hearne Family made no gestures either.
So the academy tacitly erased Scarlett’s contributions in this matter, not even ntioning it specifically to the parents of the rescued young demons.
This sort of thing is routine in the academy; with the sa achievents, those with Half-Demon Bloodline are always put at the back by default.
As Sylvia said this, it seed that just monts ago, when Aaron Hearne appeared calm, a hint of dissatisfaction erged unnoticeably on his face, even without an obvious emotional change, it was sohow perceptible.
Or rather, very displeased.
But Aaron Hearne didn’t make it too obvious nor did he intend to burst out imdiately, he only asked in a mild tone,
“Does she have any opinion on the academy’s actions?”
Aaron Hearne could indeed advocate on her behalf to claim the reward she deserved from the academy, but…
If she herself had never thought about fighting for it, thinking that her circumstances in the academy didn’t matter, then he would not voluntarily stand up for her.
Then Sylvia replied slowly,
“She does.”
He said,
“By her task standard, she applied to the Mystic Regulation Office for a mission subsidy, and also, Miss Scarlett consulted past conventions and applied to the academy for additional credit rewards.”
In other words, Scarlett Jennings didn’t care if the academy publicly comnded her, but privately what she was owed, she wanted it all.
To say she suffered a loss, it seems she didn’t at all.
Aaron Hearne clearly hadn’t expected Scarlett Jennings to seek benefits from both places, and the coldness born from the academy’s actions dissipated quite a bit.
Alright, like Magnolia Hearne, she wouldn’t shortchange herself.
Satisfaction flickered in his eyes, and with a casual tone, he asked,
“Did she get it?”
“The Mystic Regulation Office’s subsidy was given.”
Sylvia Murray addressed honestly, “The academy didn’t agree to grant credit rewards.”
He paused and added,
“So she hasn’t attended classes at the academy these last two days.”
Hearing the last sentence, Aaron Hearne suddenly turned to scowl at him.
Such a crucial situation, why not wait for to beco a skeleton before saying it?!
Sylvia Murray felt wronged by the glare.
He did this to clarify the causes and consequences, to prevent Mr. Wen from misunderstanding her as deliberately skipping classes.
If he had reported from the start that Scarlett Jennings had been skipping classes for two days, with Aaron Hearne’s temperant, he would definitively have been dissatisfied and then called her over for questioning the first mont.
Now that everything is explained, Scarlett Jennings not attending classes becos a factual and reasonable matter.
Sylvia Murray thought his approach didn’t have any errors.
And as Sylvia felt, Aaron Hearne initially intended to call her over to understand her intentions, but now…
He decided to go there in person.
*
The small courtyard on Street Three of the Demon District is where Magnolia Hearne used to live when she enrolled in the Academy of Mystique.
Aaron Hearne wasn’t there for the first ti.
Only, it had been a long ti since he last ca, and every brick and tile seed to have imprinted marks of ti.
Standing in front of the small courtyard gate, Aaron Hearne sensed more than one presence besides Scarlett Jennings’; there was another presence, unfamiliar but acquainted.
It was that little Flood Dragon.
Then the voice of the little Flood Dragon ca from inside the courtyard,
“Scarlett, can you not put away your tail?”
Imdiately followed by Scarlett’s voice pretending to be calm,
“It’s not that I can’t put it away, I’m just keeping it to learn how to control the use of demonic power.”
The little Flood Dragon was obviously unconvinced,
“…You really can’t put it away, not that it’s sothing bad. When I first transford into my human form, I often couldn’t control my Flood Dragon Horn and scales from popping out; now they’re all fine.”
He added,
“Not being able to put it away is quite fine, it looks more like a demon this way; anyway, from here to the academy is all within the Demon Clan region, ordinary people can’t catch a glimpse. Your two tails look pretty nice after a while.”
Two tails.
Outside the door, Aaron Hearne had a fleeting thought and decisively knocked on the courtyard’s door in front of him.
The knocking sound interrupted the conversation inside the courtyard.
Scarlett Jennings turned her head, her fox tail slightly lifted with her movent, carrying a hint of wariness.
She was just about to get up to open the door when, in the next mont, the locked courtyard door was decisively and casually pushed open.
