Chapter 390: Chapter 390: You Dared to Co Back?!

Early the next morning, Scarlett Jennings directly hired a sa-day delivery service to send the two Living Souls straight to Caius Carew.

She also relayed the old lady’s account from the previous night concerning the parallel worlds.

The matter was too vast and complicated for her to handle alone, so she simply handed it over to the Security Bureau for investigation.

anwhile, the police station reported early that morning that preliminary findings had erged regarding last night’s case.

“The man lived in that area; he’s a local. He’s been unemployed for years and was completely dependent on his wife’s earnings, but even so, he beat his wife on a daily basis.”

According to the man’s confession, he had accidentally killed his wife during one of his violent outbursts. Fearing imprisonnt, he dismbered her body at ho and disposed of the parts in the sewer in batches, claiming outwardly that his wife had run away.

Everyone around them knew he abused his wife, so when word spread that she had fled, no one questioned it—after all, who could endure constant beatings day in and day out?

Moreover, his wife was a migrant worker; when she disappeared, neither the streets nor her workplace conducted a thorough investigation. The man muddled through.

But without a wife, he still had urges.

He began looking around the neighborhood, reasoning that most residents here were migrant workers, making any investigation into potential incidents unlikely.

“He targeted Es Duarte that day simply because she was crying, which annoyed him. People with violent tendencies like him often have peculiar quirks; they’re simultaneously drawn to seeing tears and repelled by them.”

Daniel Wright explained over the phone that since dismbernt was involved, the case had been urgently transferred to their special investigation team overnight. Given his connection to Scarlett Jennings, he conveniently shared updates on the case with her.

“Having successfully murdered one person without detection, he decided to try and take Es Duarte back ho to kill her too. If you hadn’t encountered her last night, Es would likely not have survived. But it’s fortunate she t you…”

After all, when dealing with a murderer who’s already crossed that moral boundary, ordinary people wouldn’t be capable of stopping them.

In fact, many might even put their own lives at risk.

After listening to Daniel Wright recount the man’s story, Scarlett couldn’t help but ask about the woman from the previous night.

“How’s Es Duarte doing?”

She vividly rembered how the old lady’s Living Soul had been fervently wishing for her death.

To Scarlett, Es was an epito of an ordinary person—a reflection of humanity struggling against life’s tribulations. Es cursed, complained, and feared trouble.

But while her words damned those around her, her actions didn’t falter.

She cared for her family, tended to her paralyzed mother-in-law, worked tirelessly, and persevered through life.

Scarlett didn’t think Es deserved scorn, let alone death.

If possible, she even hoped Es could leave that marriage and family situation, particularly distance herself from that dreadful mother-in-law.

However, this wasn’t sothing Scarlett should concern herself with.

“She’s fine,” Daniel said. “She underwent a check-up and is unhard. Her husband took her back ho. Reportedly, she has elderly family mbers and children there in need of her care…”

Daniel provided so details about Es Duarte’s situation, ntioning that the police had chosen to report the man’s actions as an attempted robbery rather than assault. This gave Scarlett so relief.

After all, Es’s worries weren’t ungrounded. Avoiding unnecessary complications was understandable.

Once they finished discussing last night’s case, Scarlett was about to hang up the phone, but Daniel hesitated awkwardly for a while before bringing up another matter.

“Scarlett, I’ve heard your Amulets are quite effective. I’d like to buy a few Talismans from you…”

Especially because their special investigation team often deals with murder cases—it’s impossible to predict when things might take a turn.

While Daniel Wright had previously believed in Scarlett’s abilities, as a public official, it wasn’t appropriate for him to openly embrace these mystical practices.

But recently, he had noticed that many of his colleagues secretly watched *Inspiration*, an equally supernatural program.

Scarlett realized this was the main reason he had called today, but…

“A few??”

Scarlett wanted to respond that while she excelled at drawing Talismans, she certainly didn’t operate wholesale.

“Around ten… or maybe a few dozen.”

Scarlett: …

Daniel Wright was honestly a bit embarrassed, but thinking about his colleagues, as well as those frontline officers who risk themselves in every case, he really wished to help them secure so safety.

Although Scarlett felt a bit overwheld, she agreed.

“I’ll start by sending you ten. The remaining ones will be ready in three days.”

She might reject requests from others, but when it ca to these frontline public servants, she couldn’t and wouldn’t turn them down.

To her, this was partly the purpose of mysticism.

To protect those who deserved protection.

Scarlett Jennings finished arranging the Amulet deal with Daniel Wright and sent out her remaining stock via sa-day delivery before preparing to return to the academy.

Adam Jennings was also returning to campus today. Coincidentally—or not—Chase Jennings had chosen today for his departure as well.

Although Chase had given away 1% of his group’s shares, he still owed Scarlett the eight-million-dollar debt.

And he had to earn the money himself within one month.

The three of them t directly at the front door.

Facing Scarlett again, both Chase and Adam wore sowhat awkward expressions.

Adam had narrowly escaped a close call with Azura Loomis last ti, all thanks to Scarlett.

Upon returning, he had begrudgingly expressed his gratitude and even offered,

“Is there anything you need to do? As long as it’s within my capabilities.”

Scarlett had promptly made a request back then.

“Don’t speak to .”

Adam’s face had darkened, but for the next few days, he obediently kept quiet whenever he saw her.

As for Chase, the fact that he was alive and well was entirely due to Scarlett’s intervention.

Still, Chase felt that gifting 1% of his group’s shares was enough to repay part of his debt.

And besides, their relationship had been too strained in the past. Suddenly speaking to her amicably just wasn’t sothing Chase could manage. After much thought, he stiffly said,

“That eight million—I’ll definitely earn it within a month and pay you back!”

He refused to be indebted to her.

Scarlett glanced at him upon hearing this. “Oh.”

She offered no further comnt, purposefully strolling toward her private transport vehicle with her small suitcase. The chauffeur imdiately stepped forward to load her luggage.

Watching her departing figure, Chase was fuming. He gritted his teeth and muttered to Adam under his breath,

“Look at her! Just look at that attitude…”

Even when people want to treat her better, she won’t allow it!

Adam opened his mouth but said nothing.

Chase shot him a peculiar look. “Why are you acting so subservient to her? She’s not standing right next to us now.”

Adam gave Chase a side-eye glance. While Scarlett wasn’t physically next to them, did he really believe the distance was enough for her not to overhear?

A real man keeps silent when ordered to.

Chase couldn’t bear staring at Adam’s obstinate deanor and decided not to continue complaining. He began walking toward his car instead.

However, just as he reached his vehicle, out of nowhere, a man and a woman rushed directly toward him, catching Chase off guard.

Fortunately, the Jennings Family’s security personnel were highly alert. They imdiately leaped in front of Chase to intercept the strangers, shouting sternly,

“Step back!”

The couple, startled by the command, retreated a step but continued to gaze pleadingly at Chase.

“Young Master Chase! It’s us—it’s Azura’s parents!”

Even without them speaking, Chase had already recognized the pair.

In the past, out of respect for their biological connection to Azura Loomis, Chase had been courteous and polite to them.

But now, knowing they were Azura’s parents, his attitude had changed drastically.

With a dark expression, he asked tersely,

“What are you doing here?”

You dare to co here?!
