Chapter 382: Chapter 382: You Can’t Even Earn Eight Million, Can You??
“Alright. Eight hundred thousand it is.”
Chase Jennings felt like he didn’t have much choice right now.
Even though most of his money had been used to cover the previous thirty-million deficit, his parents were wealthy. Eight hundred thousand was nothing to them.
Eight hundred thousand to save his life? He was worth it.
Thinking this, Chase felt a sense of relief.
Scarlett Jennings didn’t say much more. She simply repeated her previous actions, extracting Jacob Zimrman’s Living Soul from Chase’s body, sealing it, and returning Chase’s Living Soul to its rightful place.
Her movents were smooth as silk.
When Chase opened his eyes again, he felt the familiar responsiveness of his body. He was so overwheld that he almost cried.
Only soone who has really experienced the powerless days of being trapped in a doll, shouting in vain, can understand the preciousness of being back in their own body.
As he basked in the joy of returning to his physical form, Scarlett added matter-of-factly,
“Oh, I forgot to ntion earlier. The eight hundred thousand has to be earned by you personally. Using your family’s or friends’ money won’t count in my book.”
Upon hearing this, Chase’s eyes widened in disbelief.
“You didn’t say that earlier!!”
Scarlett shot him a sideways glance, her tone calm and indifferent.
“You an to tell you can’t even earn eight hundred thousand on your own?”
After a pause, she added sothing that could make anyone angry without consequence, “I’ve heard that my brother managed to make seventy million by his sophomore year of college.”
Her expression was cool, her tone flat—completely devoid of sarcasm. Yet it was precisely this calm deanor that made Chase feel like he was being looked down upon.
This translated, quite literally, to:
My brother earned seventy million while still in college, and here you are, a graduate who can’t even scrape together eight hundred thousand?
No way, surely not?
Are you really that inept?
“Fine!” Chase gritted his teeth. “It’s just eight hundred thousand! I’ll give it to you within a month!”
“Alright.” Scarlett said, “By the way, let remind you: when you enter into an agreent with a Master, it automatically forms a contract. If you fail to et the terms of the contract by the deadline… there might be so backlash.”
Chase: ….
So why didn’t you explain all this before I agreed??
Chase began suspecting that Scarlett had done this intentionally!
He had just tried to be nice to her, yet she still maintained this aloof and indifferent deanor. Honestly, her personality was far from likable.
Not even close to Snow… uh.
A certain na suddenly popped into his mind, and all of his internal griping abruptly screeched to a halt.
His face shifted slightly, and if the circumstances had been different, he would have slapped himself then and there.
After all the hassle he’d gone through because of her, how could he still subconsciously think of her?
Old habits die hard.
No, he needed to change.
anwhile, Scarlett, having wrapped up both matters, settled into a small sofa nearby for a rest. Out of nowhere, Liora Gold appeared.
She climbed onto Scarlett’s shoulder, clutching a small, fan-like piece of hard paper she’d sohow found, and pretended to fan Scarlett with it.
The sight left Grandma Jennings and Chase completely dumbfounded.
Scarlett didn’t bother with them, turning her head to signal to the little fox, “Go call my brother upstairs.”
The fox received its orders and quickly ran to the door, clawed it open in a few swipes, and trotted downstairs with its tail wagging.
The Jennings Family was waiting downstairs because Scarlett had said not to disturb her. They had no choice but to wait below.
Then, they saw the little fox scamper down and head straight for Donovan Jennings. The fox pawed at Donovan Jennings.
Donovan imdiately understood and said to the others, “Let’s go upstairs and take a look.”
With that, he began heading upstairs. However, the little fox bit onto his pant leg, halting him. Donovan looked down, only to see the cute little creature hugging his calf as though trying to climb up him.
Donovan’s charming eyes softened with a trace of amusent. He bent down and effortlessly picked up the small fox before heading upstairs.
Upstairs, Blaise Jennings and his wife were already pulling Chase to the side, checking his body while scolding him.
“You’re such a troublemaker! Always causing problems for the family! Problems!”
As Blaise spoke, he slapped Chase’s back loudly. When Chase had been trapped in the doll, they’d only felt worry and heartache. But now that he was safe, Blaise wished he could break his son’s legs.
Every ti Blaise slapped him, Chase’s back bent a little further. Eventually, Blaise pressed his head down toward Scarlett and said,
“Look at how exhausted your sister is! Hurry up and thank her!”
Chase was forced into a deep bow, his face flushing red—not just because he had to thank Scarlett in front of the entire family, but also because only Lucas Jennings had ever been subjected to such a public scolding before.
Who could’ve guessed that a grown man like him would get the sa treatnt?
But… he couldn’t argue.
This ti, the mistake was entirely his.
He gritted his teeth, ready to speak, but Scarlett beat him to it.
“No need to thank , Uncle. I’m just providing a paid service.”
Scarlett showed no guilt about earning money off her own family and openly disclosed the five hundred thousand from Grandma and the eight hundred thousand from Chase.
Only then did Chase realize that she’d even charged his grandmother, leaving him feeling both oddly validated and slightly annoyed,
Chase: Why does Grandma only pay five hundred thousand while I have to pay eight hundred thousand??
The rest of the Jennings Family had mixed feelings about Scarlett’s approach to charging for her services—especially Adam Jennings and Lucas Jennings.
Adam: Not bad, eight hundred thousand—sa as .
Lucas: Ha! I only had to pay twenty thousand! And then it was free after that! My sister treats differently, after all!
The attitudes of Blaise Jennings and Brianna Jennings were more understanding. They thought the price wasn’t unreasonable; after all, in a way, it was life-saving money.
Only Michael Jennings felt sowhat uncomfortable. He thought Scarlett had beco too money-hungry, even to the point of charging her own family.
However, knowing this wasn’t the right ti to voice his thoughts, he kept his feelings to himself.
As for Luca Jennings and Donovan Jennings, there was no question. Whether it was Donovan’s daughter or Donovan’s sister, making money through her abilities was perfectly fair. Eight hundred thousand? Too little.
Old Sir Jennings didn’t show much reaction either. However, during the family eting later—held as a reflection on the Jennings Family’s recent crisis—he firmly reprimanded Chase and Grandma Jennings before stating,
“This ti, it was Scarlett who helped resolve the crisis for the Jennings Family. Although Scarlett is part of the family, you should never take it for granted that she has to protect us.”
“So, I’ve decided to allocate an additional 2% of the company’s shares to her from both my and my wife’s holdings, on top of the shares she received before.”
This declaration caught even Luca Jennings off guard, let alone the rest of the Jennings Family.
Every child in the Jennings Family had received a share of the company upon reaching adulthood, and Scarlett’s portion had already been given when she reverted to the Jennings surna. This new allocation was an extra—a separate gift.
Though it was only 4% in total, the annual dividends were no small amount—far more than any five hundred or eight hundred thousand sum.
In an instant, the Jennings Family’s thoughts beca even more divided.
Unexpectedly, the first to voice their thoughts was Grandma Jennings,
“I agree.”
