Chapter 308: Chapter 308: The Jennings Family Matriarch Returns Chapter 308: Chapter 308: The Jennings Family Matriarch Returns Donovan Jennings brought Scarlett Jennings ho, and it was already evening.
Upon entering, they found that the household had unexpectedly gathered quite completely.
Scarlett Jennings didn’t believe it was to welco her return.
Not to ntion, even the second uncle who seldom stayed at ho and Brianna Jennings had co back, clearly indicating sothing significant was happening.
Or perhaps, it was because of an important person.
Donovan seed to have guessed sothing. Just as he was about to check the group ssages he had previously ignored, he didn’t get the chance; a familiar and sowhat aged voice reached them,
“Ah Donovan, you’re back.”
Donovan and Scarlett looked up to see Azura Loomis pushing an old lady with sharp eyes and brows towards them.
Chase Jennings, who was originally sent away to Tong City, had also returned and was following beside Azura Loomis, looking sowhat awkward and downcast.
The old lady was of similar age to Old Sir Jiang and though she was seated in a wheelchair, she was dressed with elegance and luxury. She looked at Donovan with a sowhat tender expression but when her gaze turned to Scarlett, it contained a scrutiny filled with dissatisfaction.
Scarlett vaguely guessed the identity of the woman.
Sure enough, Donovan nearby softly addressed the lady, “Grandma.”
He then asked, “When did you get back?”
“I arrived in the afternoon. Azura missed , and personally went to the sanatorium to pick up,” the old Mrs. Jennings said with a smile in her eyes, affectionately pulling at Azura’s hand that was holding the wheelchair.
Azura also smiled along, her voice turning a tad more delicate,
“I missed you~”
Scarlett subconsciously looked towards Azura.
She had heard from Donovan before that Azura had cut a large gash on her forehead, but now it seed her forehead was smooth and clean, without a trace of a wound, not even a scar visible.
How much ti had passed for it to have healed completely?
While Scarlett was observing, Donovan also seed quite surprised at Azura’s appearance.
Before he could think more, he heard the old Mrs. Jennings say,
“I wanted you to pick up, but I heard you went to pick up soone else. Why did you return so late?”
This “soone else” was obviously Scarlett.
Scarlett’s almond-shaped eyes lifted slightly, sensing that she was the subject at hand.
Donovan heard the underlying sarcasm in old Mrs. Jennings’s words, paused slightly in expression, but soon smiled, leading Scarlett forward with the sa gentleness in his voice,
“I was handling sothing with Scarlett. Grandma, you haven’t t her yet, right? This is Scarlett, my sister.”
Old Mrs. Jennings still had so smiles for Donovan, her eldest grandson, but when her gaze t that of Scarlett, it clearly cooled down significantly. She narrowed her eyes now, giving Scarlett a brief, indifferent glance,
“Now that you’ve returned to the Jennings family, you should act in the manner befitting a Jennings family young lady.”
Upon hearing this, the greeting of ‘Grandma’ that was on the tip of Scarlett’s tongue she didn’t bother to utter it anymore.
She simply stood there, not offering a proper response.
The old Mrs. Jennings noticed her disrespectful attitude and was just about to say sothing.
That’s when a small white fluff wearing a floral dress darted over, scrambling straight to Scarlett’s feet, and without a second word started to climb up.
Scarlett was startled for a mont but still instinctively reached out to hold the little fox.
Her action was natural, but took old Mrs. Jennings aback.
The sudden appearance of the chubby fox startled old Mrs. Jennings, her eyes wide open with an involuntary expression of disgust.
Scarlett suddenly rembered that when she first got the fox, she was told old Mrs. Jennings did not like pets with fur.
Subconsciously, holding the pretty little creature, she stepped back.
However, the other mbers of the Jennings household instinctively held their breath.
The old lady did not like having pets in the house. Her return today was sudden, and the family was unprepared.
Lucas Jennings subconsciously looked at Donovan Jennings.
Brother Donovan had said that he had handled their grandmother.
Now, it would be embarrassing for his sister if grandma suddenly had an outburst.
Fortunately, Old Mrs. Jennings didn’t let her grandson down. Although she frowned at Scarlett Jennings’ actions, she didn’t say anything unpleasant,
“You little vixen… Ahua has already told about it.”
Old Mrs. Jennings said with a stern face,
“You had a pitiful life before, so raising a little fox is nothing.”
The rest of the Jennings family, including Lucas, all secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
But Scarlett remained calm, feeling that the old lady still had more to say.
Sure enough, Old Mrs. Jennings continued,
“However, I don’t like that Taoism Academy at all. It’s not fitting for the young lady of the Jennings family to attend such a school. School has just started; just drop out.”
The old lady’s shocking words not only made several of the Jennings’ children in the hall frown, but even Donovan Jennings couldn’t help but frown. However, he tried to keep his tone as even as possible in front of his grandmother,
“Grandma, as you said, Scarlett has already started school. How can she just drop out?”
“Why not?”
Old Mrs. Jennings narrowed her eyes, “Didn’t you say she received admission notices from several prestigious universities? Retire from that Taoism Academy and switch to Grand Cathay University. If that doesn’t work, she can retake the school year. With her grades, she won’t fear not getting into a good school.”
She spoke as if it were a matter of course, making Scarlett Jennings feel amused.
On the side, Luca Jennings clearly couldn’t listen anymore and abruptly stood up, his expression stern,
“Mom, don’t just command around. I agreed to Scarlett attending the Taoism Academy.”
“You agreed, but did you ask ?”
Old Mrs. Jennings glared at her eldest son with a furrowed brow, “This nonsense she’s studying, as her father, you just let her be. Talking about it would make others ridicule the Jennnings family!”
Luca Jennings stood his ground, “She’s my daughter. She’ll study whatever she loves. Whoever wants to ridicule her can co and say it to my face.”
Old Mrs. Jennings was startled by her son’s attitude.
Even though Luca Jennings often had a stern face, he had always been very filial to her.
Over the years, apart from defying her when choosing his wife, he usually didn’t oppose her opinions.
Just like when she insisted on bringing her niece from her maternal family ho to raise.
Now, being abruptly defied by her own son, Old Mrs. Jennings felt a tightness in her chest.
Her feelings toward Scarlett Jennings grew even worse.
She knew it! The daughter of her eldest son, just like her biological mother, was deliberately opposing her!
No wonder!
No wonder Azura Loomis suddenly ca to find her, judged by her eldest son’s protective attitude, it was clear that Azura must have suffered a lot at ho recently!
Scarlett Jennings, of course, could feel Old Mrs. Jennings did not like her.
But what of it?
It wasn’t just her in this house who didn’t like Scarlett.
“I think, regarding which school I attend, I can make my own decision. It doesn’t need anyone else’s approval.”
Scarlett Jennings suddenly spoke out, interrupting the confrontation between Old Mrs. Jennings and Luca Jennings.
Old Mrs. Jennings did not expect her to dare to openly defy her, and just as she was about to scold her, she heard Scarlett’s tone change as she turned to look behind Old Mrs. Jennings, calmly adding,
“Grandpa, you think so, right?”
Old Mrs. Jennings’ expression abruptly paused, and even Azura Loomis and Chase Jennings’ faces stiffened. They turned their heads and saw Old Sir Jiang had co downstairs without them noticing.
The previously stern and confrontational old lady unconsciously softened her expression a bit.
