Actually asking for money???
When Madam Liao handed over the silver and left, her expression was sowhat complex.
Setting aside whether fifty taels is expensive or not, mainly, she’s been with the Lady for such a long ti, none of the masters have ever directly asked her for money.
Even if they did ask, it’s usually just given openly, not quoted directly like this.
Inwardly, she sighed that this one indeed ca from the countryside, not understanding the rules of a large family estate.
But at least the other party saved her grandson, so she handed over the money.
Unexpectedly, her daughter-in-law showed an expression of encountering a swindler upon hearing fifty taels were spent, even wanting to confront Lily Phoenix, only to be stopped by Madam Liao.
Knowing the other party genuinely has skills, even if she seems petty, Madam Liao wouldn’t let her daughter-in-law continue to offend her.
She sent them off with the child and hurried to report to Lady Phoenix.
These days, Lily is not soone you can easily ddle with.
Madam Liao rushed back to the main courtyard, only to be told that the second young master had fallen ill, and the Lady was with him.
Thus, she hurried to the South Courtyard where the second young master was.
Upon arrival, the South Courtyard was in chaos, maidservants and elderly attendants knelt outside, while Lady Phoenix and Edith Phoenix were inside, and Jordan Phoenix was losing his temper.
"These servants are vile! Delivering spoiled breakfast to ! Making ... ugh... Take them away, especially those in the kitchen, and beat them with planks! Ugh..."
Madam Liao entered and inquired, only then realizing the second young master was upset and didn’t eat last night, woke hungry this morning, but as soon as he ate, he threw up everything.
He insisted the food was spoiled, rotten.
And then the kitchen manager was crying out,
"Second young master, you’re wronged, the food we delivered was the freshest, how could it be rotten? Your maid, Fragrant Pearl, tried it earlier; the food was all fine."
"Are you doubting the young master lies? Ugh..."
Jordan Phoenix had vomited since morning, expelling the little that was leftover from yesterday, now unable to keep anything down, his face pale and strained.
"I’m telling you it’s spoiled! It’s spoiled! Even this dicine is spoiled!"
Madam Liao finally understood what had happened, feeling inexplicably puzzled.
Inside, the household doctor had examined the food multiple tis, confirming it wasn’t spoiled or rotten, suspecting an issue with the second young master’s taste.
Yet, whether it was anti-nausea soup or pills, anything consud would end up being vomited, the doctor puzzled at the situation.
The doctor dared not experint further, pondered, then suggested,
"It is unsuitable for the second young master to eat now, he should have acupuncture to stop vomiting, and fast for a day, see if his condition improves..."
Initially, Madam Liao didn’t think much, but upon hearing about the fasting suggestion, sothing clicked abruptly in her mind.
An idea struck her unexpectedly.
Yesterday, when Lily displayed her prowess, Madam Liao was present, rembering the second young master saying fasting for three days is no big deal, and Lily’s reaction at the ti...
The more she thought, the more her scalp tingled, looking at the second young master’s current predicant, Madam Liao possibly deduced the truth.
She hesitated whether to inform the Lady about Lily’s magical abilities, but Lady Phoenix had already noticed her.
Recalling what she had tasked her with today, she inquired about the results during Jordan’s acupuncture session.
Madam Liao, connecting the second young master’s anomaly to Lily’s trickery, figured that if she spoke, the Lady would surely deduce it too.
But not speaking wasn’t an option.
Struggling montarily, Madam Liao decided to truthfully report her observations.
Hearing Lily rely pointed a finger and said the child had returned, and he truly revived, even asking for food, Lady Phoenix and Edith were visibly surprised.
They hadn’t anticipated Lily truly possessed unique abilities.
Edith secretly resented, thinking this implied accepting Lily’s claim she should be recognized as the rightful Phoenix Family heiress.
Then what about her?
Seething inside, outwardly, she feigned joy for her mother,
"Since Lily has such talents, Mother shouldn’t estrange her for my sake. We should comply with her previous request, lest she harbors resentnt and..."
Edith intended to hint that if Lily, who knew Strange Arts, bore grudges, she might target the family using Magic, but as the words ford, she suddenly realized sothing, glancing within, and froze.
She swore it wasn’t feigned; she genuinely had an epiphany.
Her reaction was evident, highlighting sothing to Lady Phoenix, recalling her attitude toward Jordan and the peculiar Magic...
Lady Phoenix imdiately grew furious,
"Go! Bring that wretched girl here!"
Madam Liao knew it would co to this, lanting the situation, prepared to invite her personally, and remind them, only to see Jordan burst out.
Evidently, having heard the remarks, he too connected it with his own condition.
"I’ll ask her myself!"
Without further ado, he rushed out, garnts disheveled.
Concerned he might catch cold or encounter issues, Lady Phoenix hurriedly sent people after him, and she and Edith hastened to Lily’s courtyard.
anwhile, after Madam Liao left, Scarlett Jennings was seated in her simply arranged Gathering Energy Array ditating, Lily Phoenix squatting beside her, head tilted watching.
Suddenly, Scarlett Jennings opened her eyes, gazed beyond the door.
Lily followed her line of sight, hearing the clamorous sound of footsteps across the courtyard; shortly, their door swung open violently, Jordan Phoenix strode in angrily, fixed eyes on Scarlett, shouting in accusation,
"Was it you behind this?!"
He reasoned how his appetite vanished last night, rising famished this morning yet unable to stomach anything, the food’s aroma normal yet tasting rotten and foul!
It was only just now he recalled what he had forgotten.
Just uttered fasting for three days is no big deal, and she dared exact revenge on him!
It explained her abrupt shoulder pat at the ti; it was likely then she executed her move.
"Lily! You’re so young yet so venomous! Just for a remark, you use curses against ! You’re incredibly malicious!"
In Heavenly Origin where Magic thrives, Jordan Phoenix knew a bit about such matters.
No legitimate Strange Arts would teach how to render food unpalatable, so Lily’s craft could only be the vile curse of disgust!
Lady Phoenix and Edith didn’t intervene, hearing Jordan’s invective against Lily.
If Lily genuinely caused this, Jordan wasn’t wrong to insult her.
Scarlett Jennings didn’t regard the throng that entered after, fixated solely on Jordan Phoenix, abstaining from denial, instead counter-questioning,
"Do you truly believe it was solely because you uttered that statent?"
She stepped forward, an indescribable oppressive aura emanating from her, layer upon layer advancing, coupled with a cold interrogatory voice,
"Couldn’t you have forgotten what you ordered when I was just brought back to the estate?"
