He could still rember how Ethan was snappy for the first few days of his arrival, all because he hated himself for kneeling on behalf of one girl whom he couldn’t even tell how she looked.
That was how proud he was.
Back in the living room, Elizabeth had a conceited look in her eyes as she stared at Cyprian.
"Isn’t that eh... Shikera’s friend though? Why is she here?" she asked.
As soon as Elizabeth was done talking, Cyprian rose to her feet and picked up her bag.
"I have to get back to work ASAP. Team leader called," she said. With a small wave and wink at Mignon and Esther, she gave Raine a small bow and was about to walk out when Raymond stopped her.
"They will be waiting at the door," he said.
Cyprian was confused.
"Who’s waiting?"
"The guards assigned to you," Raymond replied.
Cyprian was more confused than ever. Why were guards being assigned to her when she was not a mber of the family? Even this eting had only been attended because she had to inform Shikera of all they talked about. The girl would not put her mind to rest if she didn’t hear anything about her family being at peace.
"Why will guards be assigned to ? I’m not a DeLoach," she stated.
"And am I one?" Raymond questioned.
As if on cue, the others in the room began to leave one after the other leaving the two of them alone.
"We are two different cases. You are Ethan DeLoach’s assistant so you are in more risk than I am. I’m not in any way related to you guys so I believe I’m safe," Cyprian replied in a matter of fact tone.
"And you are Shikera Anderson’s best friend. I believe you’re aware that Miss Anderson was their real target and since she’s nowhere to be found right now, you might be the next. The Jordans might want to use you as a bait."
Cyprian chuckled, "Don’t be so paranoid, Ray. I live with my brothers so I believe I’m safe all through the night, and at work, I don’t believe it can be easy to attack there. Besides, I can’t walk around with bodyguards trailing after ."
Raymond sighed. There was no winning this argunt as long as Cyprian believed she was right. That was what he had to change.
"The station is the easiest place to get you, Cyprian, and I’m sure The Jordans would know that the mont they start planning to abduct you or whatever. Don’t get wrong, I’m not doing this because of any other reason but for Shikera," he stated. At the questioning look in Cyprian’s eyes, he continued, "She’ll be unhappy if any harm cos to you."
"I don’t care," Cyprian replied after a brief silence. "I won’t take the guards that you assigned, Raymond. Because you are doing this not because you sincerely want to be safe, but just to clear guilt off your mind in case you get questioned by Shikera."
She walked few steps forward and stopped, turning to face him, "I’m sorry if all this is because I miscarried your baby, Ray, but you can’t just wish harm all because of that. It wasn’t intentional!"
Sighing in exasperation, she turned around and walked out the door. There, she saw two heavily built n waiting for her, a blank look on their faces. They were wearing black suits which scread out their profession.
"Can you get dressed in casual clothes please? I will have to entertain a lot of questions if you two follow looking like this. I’ll wait for you by the car," she said, to see the two n nod once. Like programd robots, they turned at the sa ti and walked down the short flight of stairs that led down the patio, disappearing from her sight.
The loud ring of her phone caused her to raise it up to her ears,
"Maxwell? Yeah, I’ll be there soon. Hmm...You can order as you wait."
There was a short pause as Maxwell said sothing which made her laugh, before saying, "You can order anything you’ll like to have. I’m not a picky eater so I’ll get the sa. Sounds like your ideal girlfriend?"
As she continued with the call, she walked down the stairs and headed to the parking lot, oblivious to the fact that Raymond was standing just a few tres behind her.
He stood rooted to a spot, watching her walk to the car with that usual excited bounce in her gait.
"Yeah," he muttered under his breath, "Urgent eting with team leader is turned into a lunch eting with Maxwell."
He waited there until the bodyguards got back, now dressed in casual clothes.
"Don’t forget to do exactly as I said," he instructed, receiving a small bow in return.

"You’re coming?"
"On my way!" Shikera yelled out loud, quickening her pace as she walked out her room and headed to the dining room where Ethan was waiting for her. She got to the living room and stopped walking, pausing to admire the familiar image she had missed so much this past month.
Ethan wearing an apron...
"I don’t think you’re hungry," Ethan stated without turning to look at her, his entire concentration on the plates of food he was setting on the table.
"And how do you know that?" Shikera asked, closing the distance between them. As if on instinct, Ethan drew out the chair closest to himself for her and she took her seat, gasping in excitent at the full table.
"Did you get this at the store? We had all this at ho already," she said, her eyes sweeping over the table.
"No. You’ll see that later. For now, you should eat," Ethan replied.
"Of course, I should. I’ve been famished for over three hours now."
Ethan sighed at that, taking his own seat too.
"I’m sorry for that. Couldn’t quite get the hang of how the kitchen appliances worked. It’s very different from—"
"What did you expect, Mr Billionaire?" Shikera laughed, picking up her spoon as she scooped up a spoon of hot soup.
