Chapter 140: Violet also betrayed the corrupted

"That’s fine, but we need to plan the location first."

Phield called Kaor to the study to discuss where the reservoir should be built.

While Phield was pondering the reservoir, sothing unusual happened on Rosalia’s side.

"Thank you, outsider." A gentle and familiar female voice suddenly sounded behind Rosalia.

"There’s no need to thank , Violet. I saved you only to secure a Divine Chosen for my lord."

Rosalia turned around. Her entire deanor exuded an elegant calmness, completely different from the aura she carried when she was cutting people down. Still, she muttered under her breath, "When did she get behind ... what a ghostlike freak."

Her perception abilities were terrible. Fortunately, her durability was high enough that she wasn’t afraid of sneak attacks.

Violet was clearly heavily injured. She had been barely able to stand, trembling, but soon she leaned against a massive rock and began breathing heavily.

"You shouldn’t serve filthy humans. They will only use you."

"Cut the nonsense. I spent far longer as a human than I’ve spent as a corrupted creature. There’s no need to try shaking

with such ridiculous logic. I’m very satisfied with things as they are now." Rosalia covered her mouth and chuckled softly as she thought about the increasingly prosperous territory and its lord. "In fact, I might beco even more satisfied in the future."

"Besides, the way you look right now... it’s like that little mouth of yours just sneaked off to nibble on a carrot."

Rosalia, currently in her youthful form, clearly wasn’t the sharpest when it ca to thinking things through. Watching the trembling Violet, she gave a wicked grin and imdiately started making outrageous remarks.

"Shut up. I really don’t want to talk to you. I only ca to tell you one thing. The reason corrupted creatures have beco fewer lately... is because I’ve been killing them."

Violet spat out a mouthful of bloody phlegm with obvious disgust. Her lips moved slightly as she revealed a shocking piece of information.

"But now that I’m seriously injured, you’d better take care of yourselves."

"Huh? I didn’t expect you to betray the corrupted creatures too."

Rosalia couldn’t process it for a mont. She imdiately grabbed the Greatsword of Gluttony, her eyes sharpening.

"You’re trying to deceive , Miss. The corrupted creatures are clearly gathering outside the Nightfall Domain."

"That’s part of the reason. But you should know that corrupted creatures divide territories among themselves. Not all corruption listens to Agnes’s orders—the one who commanded

earlier. So don’t get too comfortable. Even now, the territory will still be attacked."

Violet coughed up a large mouthful of blood before continuing.

"At Turnip Village, there’s a group of extrely weak humans. A month ago they entered the gray mist and thought they had established themselves. What they don’t know is that I wiped out the nearby corpse tide for them. But a new corpse tide is about to arrive, and they will certainly die. Perhaps you could save them."

With that, Violet dissolved into a pool of blood and vanished.

"Why would she help ? Repaying a favor? But she doesn’t look like soone who wants to side with humans."

Rosalia’s mind filled with question marks.

"Too bad Phield isn’t here. He’d definitely be able to pry out more useful information."

"Wait... why didn’t I just capture her?"

Suddenly realizing it, Rosalia stomped her foot in frustration.

"Damn it, damn it! Get back here, you!"

On the other side.

Phield had already finished discussing the reservoir with Kaor. He planned to have the Nightfall Domain First Army dig it, while also drilling two more wells. With the current conditions of Nightfall Domain, it simply couldn’t sustain such a large standing army.

"Right, I should head to the barracks. The military structure is a ss right now."

Phield called Ashina, who had just returned from clearing the corpse tide, and headed straight to the barracks.

The military forces of Nightfall Domain needed so consolidation.

The demi-humans had always been led by Ashina. Although they hadn’t dared rebel after Phield took over, they couldn’t simply be left unmanaged.

Phield gathered all forces within Nightfall Domain—except the Corrupted Greatsword Warriors—and conducted a simple count and inspection.

Nightfall Domain First Army: 220 n.

Territorial Guards: 55 n.

The wolf demi-human raiders previously led by Ashina: 30.

Demi-human cavalry: 18.

Calling Ben and the others over, Phield laid out his requirents.

"I’m forming an archer unit, composed of the captured wolf demi-human raiders. Whether longbows or shortbows, they all need to be trained. At the sa ti, the raiding cavalry must also learn mounted archery. Kai will serve as the captain, and all demi-human troops will fall under his command. His monthly salary will increase from three silver coins to eight."

"Yes, my lord! I will never fail your expectations!"

Kai imdiately dropped to one knee, trembling with excitent as he swore his loyalty.

"From the Nightfall Domain First Army, select thirty of the strongest and most capable soldiers. Use an elimination system with multiple rounds of selection. I want a heavy cavalry unit of twenty n."

"Ben will serve as captain of the First Army. Sam will serve as captain of the Territorial Guards. Both captains will receive a monthly salary of eight silver coins."

"The First Army and the demi-human archers will train for only half the day. The other half will be spent working. Their first task will be digging the reservoir."

"As for daily living arrangents, human and demi-human soldiers will stay together. No divisions, no forming little factions."

"Yes, Baron!"

Everyone imdiately rushed off to carry out their orders, filled with excitent.

Once everything was settled, Phield yawned. He was about to take a nap when he habitually checked on the black crow.

The mont he opened his eyes, he saw Rosalia staring straight at him—almost face to face.

"Holy—!"

Phield nearly fell over in fright.

It was like secretly playing with your phone during class, only to suddenly look up and see the teacher standing right in front of you with a death stare. Even if the teacher happened to be a stunningly curvy beauty, anyone would still jump in shock at such a sudden close-up.

Rosalia burst into wicked laughter.

"Hahaha! Got scared, didn’t you? I never knew pranks could be this fun."

"Wait until you co back. I’m going to smack your butt."

Phield rolled his eyes, nearly scared to death by her.

"I’ll be looking forward to that. Just hit harder when the ti cos. But only if you can win at chess. As long as you beat , you can grab anywhere you want."

Rosalia giggled shalessly, licking the corner of her lips without the slightest restraint.

"There’s sothing important. News about Turnip Village."

"Stop talking nonsense. I really miss the version of you when you acted like a mature lady."

Phield felt his whole body heating up after Rosalia’s teasing. Unfortunately, this woman was a master of empty talk—visible but untouchable. She imdiately hid back inside the greatsword, and there was no way he could just drill a hole through a divine artifact.

"Tell

about Turnip Village."

Rosalia then recounted Violet’s story in detail.

"Do you think it’s credible?" After finishing, Rosalia instead asked Phield. "It sounds convincing, but could it be a trap?"

"It’s probably true. If the enemy is strong enough, there’s no need to go through so much trouble. And if the enemy is weak, we have nothing to fear."

Phield stretched comfortably.

"I’m actually curious about who would co to build a village inside the Nightfall Domain."

"Hmph. Nightfall Domain belongs to us. Without our permission, no one is allowed to build a village here. That’s illegal."

"We should teach those ants the most basic rules. We should kill them all!"
