"You’re awake. Did the sound of my voice bring you out of your sleep?" Jade asked, pushing Ronan’s hair out of his face. "It was very effective since you cannot speak."

Jade caressed Ronan’s face. "I love you, but I cannot let you make a fool of our daughter. I am considering whether to keep you like this or to wake you once Alia has found a good husband."

Jade knew that if she did the latter, Ronan would throw her out or try to have her killed, but she didn’t mind.

As long as Alia was happy, Jade could endure. If Jade were lucky, Alia would find herself a husband who could shield Jade from Ronan.

"I spoke to you about how it felt for my father to arrange my marriage. We agreed to help Alia aim high for a husband, but then you turn around and pick one of your friends. Do you hate our daughter?" Jade asked.

Ronan only stared at Jade, his body trying to fight what she had done to him so he could speak.

Once he had power over his body, Ronan was going to choke Jade until she could no longer breathe.

"I know that you are plotting how you’re going to kill . I know you like the back of my hand, but you did surprise . You surprised by ruining Alia’s chances with the prince. Why?" Jade asked, though she knew Ronan couldn’t answer.

"Why would you set her up to fail? A man who was once married? Couldn’t you do any better? Alia isn’t so bastard child to be sent away as you planned," said Jade.

If it were a bastard, Jade wouldn’t bat an eye, but this was their daughter.

Jade pald Ronan’s face and felt the fight he tried to put up to get away from her. It only made Jade smile.

"Don’t fight it, dear. If it will make you feel any better, I wasn’t keeping the concoction for you. I was holding onto it just for safety, if I needed to protect us from anyone."

"How unfortunate that you would be the first person to try it. The king truly should put a ban on what so doctors co up with. Don’t you agree?" Jade asked, followed by laughter.

"Forgive ," Jade covered her mouth. "That was rude of ."

Jade noticed Ronan’s pinky finger moving. "I’ll need to give you more soon. I am going to take care of everyone in this family. Even though you made a mistake, I will care for you because I love you."

Jade leaned forward to kiss Ronan on his forehead.

"It’s ti for your drink," Jade said, standing up from the bed.

Jade poured water from a jug into a glass she sent a maid for earlier. On the sa tray was a small bottle she had kept for a few months.

Jade removed the cover and poured one drop into the water.

"I am thinking of letting Alia host a gathering soon. It would take attention off of her no longer courting the prince and let her na be spoken of around the town," Jade shared.

Jade walked toward the bed with the glass in her hands and sat down beside Ronan again.

She carefully tilted the cup, which contained just a little more than a mouthful of water and poured it into Ronan’s mouth.

"Oh dear," Jade panicked, placing the cup on the bed before frantically lifting Ronan’s head. "I can’t let our daughter have a mother who murdered her father before she is wed. You must try your best not to choke."

Jade laid Ronan’s head back down on the pillow, and with her right hand, she wiped away what spilt from Ronan’s mouth.

"See, even now, I take care of you. I have been a devoted wife from the mont we wed. I asked nothing from you. I never questioned you because I knew my place, and I stood by you. All I wanted was for my daughter to do better," said Jade.

Jade looked at the wedding band, which was still on Ronan’s finger.

"I tried to be understanding that it is all about business, but I hate the way n around the town will sell their daughters to old bats. Alia is lovely, yet you wanted to ruin her. I should kill you for it," Jade said, her gaze now on his neck.

If not for how it would affect Alia, Jade would have long killed Ronan instead of making it so he couldn’t move.

"My love for you and my daughter stops from doing so. I am bothered that you didn’t understand , Ronan. You knew that my love for my daughter was far greater than my love for you."

Ronan should have known that Jade was not going to let Alia be the second wife to any man in town. He should have known that a storm was coming his way when he decided to ss with her daughter’s future.

"I shall take care of the mansion while you rest, and I will speak on your behalf concerning the business. I have watched you long enough to know how to do it. All will be well," Jade promised Ronan.

Ronan could only stare at Jade. His mind was filled with threats and insults. Jade was going to eat every word she spoke to him soon.

A knock on the door interrupted the mont.

"Rest well," Jade said, kissing Ronan’s cheeks. She was careful not to kiss his lips and share the sa fate.

Jade stood up from the bed and walked to the door. Upon opening the door, it was revealed to be Alia who ca to visit.

"Alia, I thought you would be getting dressed to leave. What is it, dear?" Jade asked, blocking Alia’s view of the bed.

"I thought it would be best that instead of leaving you here, you should co along with . We can go on an outing together. Just you and ," Alia suggested.

"That would be lovely, but it seems your father is sick to the point that I must send for a doctor. I cannot leave his side. You may carry on with your plans to visit a friend, and we will have an outing another day," Jade promised.

Alia frowned. "He is unwell?"

Alia questioned whether this was true. He was well the day before. Well enough to speak of eting her future husband soon.

How was he sick already?

"Then, should I stay until the doctor cos?" Alia asked, wanting to see her father’s state.

"No, Alia. You must go now before I change my mind. Go have fun," Jade said, pushing Alia away.

"Very well," Alia replied, but she felt uneasy about her father’s current state.

The timing was just too well after her mother promised that all would be well.

If her mother did sothing to her father, Alia didn’t mind it. Her father deserved it for trying to make a mockery of her.
