The Harrington family was completely dumbfounded.
Dexter actually ca to their house to apologize and even kneeled to Augustus?
This must be an illusion!
Augustus reminded him, "You shouldn't be kneeling to , but my wife!"
"Yes yes yes. Director Harrington, I was a fool and offended you yesterday. I deserve to die!"
Dexter kneeled in front of Jeanne and slapped himself rcilessly, looking extrely lowly.
He could not afford to not be lowly. Earlier, Clara made it very clear on the phone that if he did not please Augustus, he would have to choose the cetery he wanted to be buried in tomorrow.
"I've anded the contract. I'll increase the interest by another 30% from before. Please give another chance to cooperate with you, Director Harrington!"
Dexter handed over the contract with both hands.
Jeanne froze in place, feeling like she was dreaming.
The Harrington family looked like they had just seen a ghost.
In the past, trying to get a contract from Yorkfire was as hard as trying to climb to the heavens, but now, Dexter ca up to beg them. What on earth was going on?
Augustus took the contract and dismissed him. "Jeanne will sign the contract when she's free. There's no need for you to be here anymore. Get lost!"
"Yes yes yes, thank you, Brother Augustus!"
Dexter scurried out of the Harrington residence.
Augustus looked at Dexter's figure and smirked. "Looks like President Fox isn't as difficult to deal with as you guys said."
The Harrington family was speechless.
It was the first ti they saw the arrogant and domineering Dexter Fox be reduced to such a state.
"Good. I announce that from now on, Jeanne will be reinstated as the director of the sales departnt!" Old Madam Harrington spoke.
Iris, who had only sat in the position for a day before it was taken away again, gnashed her teeth in hatred.
However, Augustus shook his head. "Jeanne's position should indeed be restored, but that's not enough!"
The crowd was stunned. They did not expect Augustus to have the audacity to bargain with the Old Madam.
Carter imdiately spoke up. "Augustus, don't try to take advantage of the situation! What else do you want?"
"My wife was falsely accused. Of course, I want justice!"
Augustus looked at Joey and Taylor with cold eyes. "You're not telling the truth even now. Do you think your heads are harder than Dexter's?"
Thud!
Joey and Taylor fell to their knees.
Even a bigshot like Dexter Fox had apologized to Augustus. How would the two of them still dare to be stubborn?
"Director Harrington, it has nothing to do with us. It was Iris who ordered us to do this!"
"She threatened to expose and put us in jail for accepting bribes. We were forced to lie!"
The crowd was in an uproar, not expecting such a reversal.
"How dare you try to sar ! You have a lot of guts…"
Smack!
Before Iris could finish talking, she was slapped to the ground by Augustus.
"H-How dare you hit ?"
Iris looked at Augustus incredulously.
Even in her nightmares, she never expected that she would be beaten by this good-for-nothing.
Augustus's eyes were ice cold. "You know very well if you did it or not! This slap is a lesson for you. If there's a next ti, I won't let you off!"
Then he pulled Jeanne who was still in shock and left.
"Revolt! That son-in-law is rebelling! Grandma, you have to do sothing for !"
Iris sat on the ground and cried.
The Old Madam had a headache. "Enough, you were also at fault in this matter. Just don't do it again."
She could not be bothered with small conflicts like this. All she cared about was the interests of the Harrington family.
Since Augustus got the contract with Yorkfire Corporation, there was nothing else she had to say.
"Grandma…"
Iris cried out, but the Old Madam had already left with her cane.
"Augustus Cross! This isn't over!"
Iris roared like a lioness.
Back in the car, Jeanne was still baffled. "What happened with Dexter?"
"It's nothing. I just frightened him and said that I have a video of him plotting against you yesterday and that he'll go to jail if he doesn't apologize. He was spooked."
Jeanne could not believe it. "That simple?"
"Why else do you think he'd take the initiative to apologize?"
Jeanne was speechless.
She doubted the credibility of his words but she could not think of any other possibilities.
Augustus quickly changed the subject. "Tomorrow is the weekend. I want to bring Skylar to see my mom. Do you want to co with us?"
"Our company will be participating in a trade fair tomorrow, so I'll need to be there to coordinate. I don't think I'll be able to leave."
As Jeanne spoke, she brought out an exquisite paper bag from the back seat.
"These are so clothes I bought for Mom a few days ago. Help give it to her tomorrow."
Augustus recognized this brand. It was not cheap.
Although Jeanne had always been lukewarm toward Augustus, she was still a decent daughter-in-law and sotis even personally washed his mother's clothes.
It was very hard to imagine that a pampered and spoiled young lady like Jeanne would willingly do chores.
Seeing how Jeanne had cared for his mother, his heart was sowhat touched.
Perhaps this was the reason why he was still willing to compromise even though the Harrington family treated him so badly.
The next morning, Augustus drove Skylar and went to visit his mother, Susan Springer.
Susan lived alone in the old city district. Although the houses here were a little dilapidated, they were built in a rare one-family courtyard style, so the elderly who were not used to buildings would be able to live comfortably here.
From one end of the street, Augustus saw his mother standing in front of the house looking out from afar. She had clearly been waiting for a long ti.
"Grandma!"
Skylar ran toward Susan like a little angel.
Susan was overjoyed and picked Skylar up.
"Grandma, I missed you so much. Did you miss ?"
"Yes, of course I did! I saw you in my dreams every night!"
"Grandma is such a good girl! I'll give you a reward."
Then, Skylar pressed a smooch on Susan's face, making Susan smile from ear to ear.
Seeing his mother's happy appearance, Augustus's heart was a little bitter.
He knew that his mother loved Skylar the most, and Skylar also enjoyed spending ti with his mother.
However, he was just soone who stayed with his wife's family and could not even let his mother see Skylar every day. He could only let her live alone in this dilapidated courtyard.
When he thought of his mother's lonely figure looking out the door every day, he could not help but feel a trace of bitterness in his heart.
"Where's Jeanne? She didn't co with you?" Susan asked.
"She's busy at work today. She asked to bring you this gift."
Augustus handed the clothes over.
"Oh, that girl. She shouldn't have spent money on this."
Although that was what Susan said, her face was full of joy.
"Mom, go ahead and try them on," Augustus suggested.
"I wanna see Grandma wear new clothes too!" Skylar was very excited.
"Okay, then I'll go try them on."
Monts later, Susan changed her clothes and ca out of the house.
It was true that clothes made the man. With the new clothes on, she was glowing and her temperant was much better.
"Grandma, you're so pretty!" Skylar's mouth was particularly sweet.
Augustus chid in, "Mom, you really are beautiful. It's no wonder you could give birth to such a handso son like !"
Susan was tickled pink by the pair of father and daughter.
"Well, I still have to cook later, so I'd better change back first."
Susan was just about to go to the back of the house when Augustus stopped her. "No need, Mom. Let's go to a restaurant today and eat sothing delicious."
Before Susan could reply, Skylar jumped up happily. "That's great! We can eat out at a restaurant!"
Susan smiled wryly. She did not want to let Skylar be disappointed, so she had to agree.
Skylar hopped out the door while Augustus and Susan followed behind, chasing after her as they laughed.
Skylar hid behind a car parked by the lane and played hide-and-seek with Augustus and Susan. Her two pigtails stood out and made her look extra cute.
However, at that mont, soone suddenly shouted. "Where did this little brat co from? Get the hell away from my car!"
