Bree rubbed her forehead as she sat on her chair behind the table she couldn’t understand why Yakov asked her to take Ahmar out, as far as I am concerned the consorts didn’t have any good feelings towards each other. She of course tried to ask what he ant by ’too late’ but he just smiled politely and ——
’ I am sorry your majesty, as you have said our alone ti is over now... so I am no longer your first consort but this Empire’s chancellor—— I am afraid that I cannot discuss matters related to harem now.’
These were his final words as he walked out of her office before closing the door, she didn’t even get a chance to chase after him before he was gone. Damn him and his shifter speed! Ever since she has been brooding over what he said and waiting for Dion to return, it was supposed to be her lunch break but she wasn’t able to stomach anything other than the tea she drank with Yakov and given her anxiety that goes spiralling out of control when she was nervous, Bree was pretty sure she was going to vomit that out too if Dion didn’t return soon.
As she got antsier and antsier, she started drumming her fingers on the table, her eyes darting to the door of the office and the clock hanging on the wall ——- twenty minutes more, ten minutes more, five minutes more and ——- after the clock struck two, the magical bell chid and everyone returned to their post and Dion too opened the door as he walked in and yelped as soon as his gaze fell on Bree whose eyes have taken a dangerous glint in them because of all the waiting she has done. " Y...Your...y..your m..ma..majesty?"
" You are finally back?" said Bree as she looked at Dion not knowing that her eyes were glowing because of the impatience that was burning inside her.
’’ Ye...Yes?" Dion felt his heart jump in his throat as he thought about everything that just happened, did he make a mistake while knocking? Or was he too late? Was the Queen upset because he left her alone with the first consort? But she asked him to leave! Was he not supposed to leave? As he looked at Bree with sweat dripping down his back, he couldn’t help but think that serving the monarch was really too troubleso! He has to even think twice before breathing...now what should he do? Should he think about quitting? No, he can’t even quit because he has sworn loyalty to the current Queen and he couldn’t even think about leaving until he dies.
If he so much as dared to submit his resignation then his head will be sent flying off first before his resignation might be accepted.
" At the black tower," began Bree after much hesitation as she looked at Dion with a nervous expression, though with her cold face she was looking anything but hesitant in fact she looked like she was waiting to announce the doom of the Empire.
" Y...Yes?" squeaked Dion looking even more timid than before —— ’Your majesty! Please hurry up and say what’s on your mind! You’re scaring the heck out of !’
" Will the second consort be punished?"
" Ah... I am sor—— huh?" Dion looked at Bree who was playing with her quill and then poked his ear one by one to clear to make sure he was hearing correctly. The Queen was actually worried about the second consort and was even asking whether or not will he be punished? Since when did she start caring for her mates? Hasn’t she always been cold towards them what was she used to say huh? —— oh yes
’ Showing emotions to them is like showing my weakness, once they realise they hold power over , they will not hesitate to use that power to either end or make submit to them, Dion.’
That was what the Queen used to say and refused to get closer to her mate more than she had to, so why was she getting worried about her mates all of a sudden?
" Dion?" called Bree when she didn’t receive any response from him.
" Ah, yes, your majesty?" Dion who was suddenly called out woke up from his daze and looked at Bree without much thought causing her to frown and repeat her question. " I asked whether or not the second consort will be hurt at the black tower? He is my mate surely the guards there will rember to stay away from him right?"
She actually had no intention to hurt or punish Ahmar, his words and his casual actions ignited a fla in her heart that was why she threw him into the black tower since there the guards were only responsible for holding the criminals and did not have the permission to hit or punish the traitors without getting a proper and written permission from her only then can they use physical ans on the traitor or anyone locked in that tower.
This was the only reason she sent Ahmar to the black tower, if she wanted to hurt him or physically punish him, she would have sent him to the Blood moon prison. She only wanted to teach him a lesson and nothing more!
Dion hesitated as he swallowed and finally decided to bite the bullet as he said, "It is not that I want to contradict you, your majesty but sothing like being given no punishnt is impossible, after all, everyone knows that the consorts have lost your favour if in this case you were to send one of them to the black tower I am afraid they will have a hard ti there."
" But I didn’t give them the permission to harm my consort!" shouted Bree as she banged her fist on the table.
" And they have never asked for one your majesty," said Dion calmly though he was staring at the floor throughout the entire ti without once looking her in the eye, and for the first ti, Bree felt like he was silently disapproving of her actions. " The black tower is where they keep the traitors, your majesty ... and there are hundreds and thousands of traitors in there, if they were to ask for permission each ti, how will they work and how will you work? I am afraid that the second consort after being sent there might be having a hard ti as he no longer has your favour, your majesty. Without your favour, no one will fear the consorts.",
