Could soone shut the curtains down for goodness sake? Bree groaned and rolled to one side. She didn’t feel happy with the way her entire face was being illuminated by the sunshine. At the sa ti, she registered that soone was softly talking in her room; she intended to ignore the voice. It was not the first ti soone was whispering right next to her.
Her roommate had the habit of bringing all kinds of n into their apartnt.
But then she realised, she was sleeping in a bed that was way too soft for her and then the scent of fluttering pine, icy cold wine and sothing else tickled her nostrils. She opened her eyes with a snap and looked around the room; as soon as she opened her eyes, they t with two pairs of ruby red and periwinkle blue.
"Your majesty!"
"Are you alright, your majesty?"
At first, Bree didn’t understand what was going on but soon her head cleared up. That was right, she was no longer living in the human world but in the world of shifters and despite living in this fucked-up world, which couldn’t beco any more fucked up, she had sohow managed to screw up even in this world.
"I am feeling alright." She sat up straight and looked at the two n with a frown on her face. "What’s going on? What happened to ?"
She was quite sure that she had never lost her temper like that ever before; even if Saphira didn’t like the woman putting her claim on Yakov, her dragon was not as sinister and violent as to lurch at the woman without taking care of the consequences.
As soon as she finished speaking, Ahmar and Blaise turned to look at one another. Sothing about their subtle exchange made Bree nervous and she asked, "What?"
"Your majesty, please brace yourself." Blaise sat down next to her and then took her hand in his, while Ahmar stared at her without showing any signs of emotional turbulence, unlike Blaise. At tis like these, Bree sensed the differences among the four n. While Ahmar, as the commander of the army, was steady, Blaise was slightly more human. He looked at her with raw concern, which ward her heart.
"What’s going on?"
Considering that Bree would find out the truth sooner or later, Blaise braced himself and then said to her with a sigh on his lips, "It seems like there were lingering traces of the drugs in your body, Your Majesty. By destroying the remnants of the drugs, your dragon had absorbed most of their essence and had turned chaotic."
"What do you an by chaotic?" Bree asked. She had indeed not heard the responses of her dragon for quite so ti, but she never thought that she was affected by the drugs; didn’t Saphira say that the drugs were nothing to be worried about?
Then how co sothing like this happened to her?
"It ans that your dragon has shifted back to her origins. Wild and instinctive. She has lost all sense of reasoning and understanding, which ans that you can no longer control her like you used to in the past." Ahmar was the one who explained the condition of Saphira to her and Bree didn’t know what to think anymore.
She took it for granted that her dragon was stronger than most of the shifters and let all hell break loose like this.
Bree sighed and pinched her brows. She sighed and said, "I understand. I will draft the divorce agreents and you all can—"
"What do you an by that you are going to draft the divorce agreent?"
"When did I say that I wanted a divorce?"
The two n imdiately jumped to their feet and looked at the woman on the bed. Ahmar gritted his teeth and stated, "I never asked for a divorce, your majesty."
"That’s right, your majesty." Blaise was still smiling but his smile seed to have a hint of gloom. He said, "I don’t think I made a request for a divorce or did I?"
Bree raised her head and looked at the two n with a frown on her face. Totally baffled by their actions, she questioned, "You heard what happened last night, right? And given that you have already studied my condition, I believe that you know what might happen if you stay with and despite all that, you don’t want to break the mating bond? I am willing to take —"
Blaise reached out and hugged her tight before saying, "I am not letting you go, Your Majesty."
"I don’t think that this is the ti for you to be wilful. Do you even know what might happen to you if you stay with ? You should be worried about your safety rather than anything else. And just think about it: how will the ministers react? Do you still want to stay with despite facing the criticism?"
A hint of smugness glinted in the eyes of the two n. "What? Why are you looking at like that?"
"You don’t need to worry about the ministers, Your Majesty," Ahmar spoke as he pulled Blaise away from Bree. "The first consort has spoken to them and I assure you that they all seem to have understood the crux of the situation. Even though they don’t seem to be happy about it, if the matter is allowed to escalate any further, then the investigation of the drugging incident would be restarted."
Those old foxes knew that they had done sothing horrendous; even though they were quick in cutting off their tails before they could be caught, it didn’t an that the evidence had been completely cleared up.
If the investigation restarted, those old foxes would end up in a way more troubleso situation.
"Then what about Lady Evelyn’s family?" Though things at the court were fine, Bree didn’t believe that Lady Evelyn and her family would drop the matter just like that.
