Flushed red with anger, King Pierre shouted at the three of them, "I am telling you, your majesty. I can be a really good ally if you give what I want!"
Bree paused at the threshold of the hall and turned around to look at the man who was about to burst into flas. She smiled at him before stating, "And I am a very bad enemy if you were to betray , my lord. So I will suggest that you don’t do sothing that you should not be doing."
With that, the three of them stepped out of the hall and headed out of the palace. Once they arrived at the carriage, they climbed up the small stairs and sat on the plush seats.
Sitting opposite the two n, Bree asked, "You did not see that coming?"
"No," Cian rubbed his nape and shook his head.
"Are you sure?" Yakov asked with a hint of suspicion in his eyes. "Maybe you hinted that you will be claiming or mating with her when you were talking to that woman while turning up your charm."
"I told you that I had done no such thing!" Yakov exploded angrily. "I never turned my charm up on that woman; why would I do such a thing? She was quite happy to listen to my requests and I never had to even use my charm on her. It was like she was waiting for to put my request forward so she could give what I want."
He then turned to look at Bree and said to her, "Please believe , Your Majesty. I never did anything that would let you down. I have no idea where King Pierre even ca up with such an idea. Because I assure you that King Pierre or Rosalie never said such things the last ti I t them."
"Because she knew that her lies would be caught," Bree watched the carriage lurch forward and then head out of the small palace. "I believe that even if she suffered in the past, she had long overco the trauma that she speaks of. However, when she saw Cian, she realised that there was more to the world than she was getting, so she pretended to be scared and afraid of n, with only Cian being the one who could help her."
"The sa reason she didn’t turn up today," Yakov deduced. "She was sure that she would be caught, which was why she hid behind her father and hoped that her father would get her what she wanted because she must have known that you do not have many feelings towards your consorts, your majesty."
Bree turned to look at him and questioned, "Is that a complaint that I hear?"
"Of course not, your majesty."
"It’s not just about not having enough feelings for you," Bree tapped on the window of the carriage as she remarked, "I have so mories of Rosalie and she has always tried to snatch sothing from in one way or another. In her eyes, both of us are princesses so why can I get things that are better than hers?"
She glanced at Cian and added, "She must have seen the four husbands that I married and picked up the best-looking one before setting her eye on you. She has always been like this; it’s just complicated since you have been in contact with her. If it was the other three, then I could have at least put up a strong front and refused King Pierre, but now that the situation is like this, I am sure that man will not sit still."
Yakov turned and cast a blaming look at Cian before saying, "Couldn’t you have stayed away or sothing? Why did you have to go ahead and poke that crazy cuckoo?"
"I didn’t know that she was a crazy cuckoo!" Cian defended himself right away. "She was polite and elegant when I t with her and she even held a decent conversation without showing any signs of being attracted to . How was I supposed to know that she would co looking for despite knowing that I was mated to the empress?
Yakov rolled his eyes and t Bree’s eyes before questioning, "Do you think that King Pierre would cause trouble for us?"
"I don’t doubt it." Bree crossed her arms and replied, "He is the kind of man who will get his daughter the stars if she asks for them, not to ntion he is used to lording over , expecting to back down and give his daughter whatever she wants. It’s not the first ti; he must be hoping that his authority as one of the remaining family mbers will co in and I will change my mind."
She then added with a frown, "Rosalie will not like that she didn’t get what she wanted."
"Well, she had to suck it up," Cian snorted. He knew that because of his beast being a siren, he was not well respected by the shifters but this was the first ti he felt this insulted.
He knew that there were many rumours circulating about sirens and their abilities but he was certain that there was no such thing as them being able to block the mate bond and sleep with another man or woman.
That was just so bullshit.
He had seen how the breaking of the mating bond had torn his mother apart when his father walked away, leaving his mother alone to raise their children. She almost went crazy to the point where Omar and he had to wonder whether they had to kill her.
His mother certainly didn’t deserve that and it was fortunate that she was able to break through the crazy haze of her husband’s betrayal and abandonnt.
Because of this, Cian had feared finding his mate and was sowhat relieved that Bree wasn’t demanding the answers for why he hadn’t finished the mating bond and just imprinted on her.

Mating Bond: It’s the final stage of the bond between shifters.
Imprinting: When the shifters bite and claim their mate, like the starting line of the bond.
